Location Details

The beautiful Norman Castle ruins overlooking the River Tweed, painted by Turner in 1845, are the most recognised feature of the mediaeval village of Norham. The village contains a good butcher and bakery, as well as a Post Office, grocer, newsagent, and two pubs, one of which, the Wheatsheaf pub in neighbouring Swinton, has an award-winning restaurant. The Cross Inn in Paxton, as well as two fine restaurants in the town of Allanton that are great for fishing and shooting parties, are also close. Berwick-upon-Tweed, on Northumberland's picturesque Heritage Coast, is just 7 miles away, with many restaurants, cafes, bars, and a local links golf course. Berwick is only 40 minutes by train from Edinburgh, Scotland's capital, or Newcastle, its largest city. A fantastic base for seeing everything North Northumberland has to offer.
