Location Details

Meifod is a sunny little, stone-built village by the River Vyrnwy with a local pub and convenience store with a post office, enveloped by rolling hills and woodland, with attractive houses. Situated about 7 miles north-west of Welshpool, this pretty village also offers tennis courts (day tickets can be purchased cheaply from the village shop), its own ruby and football teams and a historic church where there is said to be the royal tombs of 2 former princes of Powys. Fishing permits for the River Vyrnwy and Banwy can also be purchased from the village shop. Lake Vyrnwy with its RSPB reserve and Pistyll Rhaeader (Llanrhader waterfall) a 240ft waterfall in 3 stages, which is counted as one of the Seven Wonders of Wales, are only a short drive away. Both are sites of scientific interest. Gwyndu Cottage is about an hours drive away from 5 of the best places to ride mountain bikes in North Wales. Nearby, Llanfair Caereinion is in the heart of old Montgomeryshire's Banwy valley and is one of the smallest towns in Powys. Just a short walk over the Banwy Bridge from the hilly streets of the town centre, is the steam Welshpool to Llanfair Light Railway. Welshpool is a bustling market town, nestled in the Severn Valley 4 miles from the border between Wales and England. There is a lovely blend of shops, quality pubs and restaurants, as well as a restored cock fighting pit and interesting Heritage Trail. Visit the famous 13th Century Powis castle, or enjoy a cruise along the Montgomery canal. There is much to be enjoyed of an afternoon here. A gentle stroll through the town will have you taking in the Georgian architecture, there is even a golf club with a top of the world situation, overlooking the picturesque Welsh borderlands - a perfect location to practice your swing! Further afield is country town of Shrewsbury, with its half-timbered Tudor buildings, museums and lovely shopping experiences. An opportunity not to be missed!

Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. From Snowdonia in North Wales to the Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast in the South.

Reviews

One of the warmest and friendliest welcomes myself and my husband have received for a lodge holiday! David and Sonia have created two outstanding lodges in a perfect location. It truly was a secluded slice of Welsh heaven! The lodge was spotless and decorated to an impeccable and professional standard. We instantly felt relaxed. From all of the little touches in the lodge (and the warm welcome) you could tell that David and Sonia put an extra amount of effort into making sure you have the perfect stay. Highly recommend this lodge (or it's sister lodge "meadow view", which we were kindly given a tour of). You will not be disappointed if you decide to stay here

Our hosts Dave and Sonia were lovely and made us feel very welcome and at home. The lodge was very comfortable and so clean there wasn't a speck of dust anywhere. We loved the farm and Dave was very nice in inviting my little sister and brother down at feeding time and letting us go down and see the calves. Before we left we were already looking to book to come back. I can't express how happy this holiday made us, it was so relaxing and perfect for our sibling holiday.

This is the most amazing lodge and location I have been to. We spent 7 days here. The lodge is immaculate, all new modern facilities. The lodge has a hot tub which the owner maintains everyday. All cooking utensils and cutlery are new. Towels are provided plus extra for the hot tub. So quiet all you can hear are the farm animals and an evening owl. 5 stars.
