Location Details

The small rural community of Gunnislake is on the heavily forested banks of the River Tamar. It has a few of local bars and a few stores. The village is notable for being at one end of the picturesque Tamar Valley Railway, which runs along the riverbank to Plymouth on a regular basis. Dartmoor, the south and north coast beaches, and the attractions of Cornwall's far west are all within easy reach. Tavistock, with its pannier market, bars, and restaurants, is close by, as is Calstock, a popular fishing village known for its crafts and festivals, while the Donkey Sanctuary and Cotehele House and Gardens (NT) are also within easy reach.

Reviews

We stayed at 60 Tamar Valley Lodge that we booked with yourselves from 24 - 31st May 2024. Unfortunately for us the standard of the accommodation was very poor and if we had not had appointments booked during the week we would have left and gone home after a few days but this wasn’t possible. The whole of the downstairs was damp and cold, it had a very strong damp smell. Getting into the bed at night was damp and uncomfortable, so much so that the duvet felt wet to the touch along with anything else in any of the downstairs bedrooms. This included all of the bedrooms and all sheets and bedding felt wet. My children slept in clothes and with extra blankets on as it was so cold and damp in their bedrooms. This was a particular issue given that my wife and children have asthma, and this caused them to have breathing difficulties. The downstairs floor was constantly cold, and this made the bedrooms particularly uncomfortable to be in. The whole apartment was not properly hoovered, and this had to be done by us upon arrival. There was popcorn, a deflated balloon, and napkins all on the floor in the living room area and this had to be picked up and taken away from our dog to make sure that he did not choke. I’m not sure how this could have been missed at the time by the cleaners as it was obvious. The waste bin had no batteries in it so did not work and meant having to keep constantly touching a dirty bin to put rubbish in it. Yes, the owner had left batteries, but they did not seem to make the lid go up and down, so we had to keep touching a filthy lid. On the Friday at 08:55 we had an electrician arrive at the apartment and to prepare to work on the property, but our departure time was 10am. There were blood stains on the duvet and mattress in the single bedroom, which is quite honestly disgusting and a health issue, the cover for one of the lights in the single bedroom was hanging off and exposed so that the wiring underneath was showing which is a health and safety issue especially with the cold and damp conditions. The TV downstairs in the other small room did not work. The shower was extremely dangerous as the tray would flood and you would have to switch the water off to let the water drain and then it went scalding hot very quickly and caused an issue with burns, this was so bad especially when my children were in it. The shower head also kept falling off the unit on the wall and this was another issue when being used. This was raised in a previous review by a guest and has still not been rectified by the owner. I have been trying to contact the owner since we arrived at the property without success.
