Nestled at the foot of the highly popular gritstone escarpment the Roaches, Lake View cottage boasts remarkable views both of the impressive peak Hen Cloud and of the valley below. Dating back to 1744, the beautifully appointed stone cottage oozes charm from beamed ceilings to hardwood floors and is the ideal dwelling for a small family wishing to enjoy this glorious Peak District countryside setting. Peeling away from the road just yards from Roaches Gate - the main entrance to the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust owned Roaches Estate - the driveway winds down to the parking spot right outside the rear of the cottage. Follow the gravel path on the right, around to the front of the property to the raised stone patio overlooking a large lawned area with Tittesworth reservoir as your backdrop. Step inside to discover the welcoming sitting room with its original beams and range fireplace. Prepare a hearty dinner in the well-equipped kitchen before throwing another log into the wood burner when sitting down to eat and relax after a day in the great outdoors. As the evening calls, retire upstairs to find the family bathroom and indulge in a warming soak in the roll-top bath before tucking the kids into bed in their immaculate twin room. Venture into the master bedroom with its king size bed and calming deep blue feature wall before drifting off to sleep in the tranquility of the English countryside. Awake to a spot of breakfast with a view and decide the plan for the day. With footpaths right on your doorstep, take a walk up to the towering Roaches to sit on the Queen’s Chair for a well-earned rest before continuing onto the summit and the mysterious Doxey pool with its legendary mermaid. Book in with the local climbing school in Upper Hulme for individual, family or children focused climbing lessons. Afterwards, wander down to the Roaches Tea Rooms for refreshment or continue on to Ye Old Rock Inn, a lovely and cosy 200-year-old pub in Upper Hulme which has undergone recent renovation, serving wonderful hearty pub grub and real ale. For something less strenuous, walking down into the valley leads to Meerbrook, with the popular and highly recommended pub the Lazy Trout where you will find a warm welcome and a tasty menu. Venture on to the Tittisworth reservoir with its short and long walking routes, adventure playground and in-house café to rest and re-energise. For those yearning to get out onto the water, Tittesworth Water Sports and Activity Centre provides kayaks, canoes and wake-board hire as well as instruction for those wanting to learn. Spend some time in Leek, an historic market town less than 15 minutes away by car with its antique shops, tea rooms and regular outdoor markets every Wednesday, with the Fine Food Market on the 3rd Saturday of the month. Travel a little further afield to the spa town of Buxton, where you can immerse yourself in history at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, which displays riveting artifacts and St Anne's well to drink from the allegedly healing spring. Visit the cobbled streets of Ashbourne, a market town steeped in history, with its handsome Tudor and Georgian architecture, a 17th century mansion and a timber-framed Gingerbread Shop; as well as family-owned shops to rummage round. For tasty puddings, embark on a day out to the town of Bakewell, well-known for its Bakewell pudding and lush gardens for a quaint stroll; Bakewell is the perfect place to spend a relaxing Sunday.
