The Romans were drawn to Buxton because of the town's eight hot springs, whose bubbling blue waters maintain a constant temperature of 28 degrees centigrade year-round. The Palladian splendour of modern-day Buxton, including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens, and The Opera House, was, however, designed and built during the 18th and 19th centuries under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire. Today, the Opera House's full schedule and annual festivals in music and the arts continue to draw crowds to these spectacular structures and gardens. Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton, and Edale are just a few of the lovely towns and villages strewn around the area, and there are plenty of opportunities for hiking in the nearby harsh peaks to the north and pleasant hills and dales to the south. In close proximity to this location are the breathtaking mansions of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. Fabulous location from which to discover the Peak District.
The cottage is over three floors and very clean. The beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is again very clean and practical. It is a lovely cottage. It is close to all the main attractions in Derbyshire. The pavillion gardens (ice cream parlour) are lovely for children
