The Mid Norfolk Railway, the longest heritage railway in East Anglia, is located on the outskirts of Dereham and offers rides on both steam and diesel trains. Visit the Gressenhall Rural Life Museum just outside Dereham to learn about the history of rural life in Norfolk. North Elmham is home to the ruins of a Saxon cathedral, while Pensthorpe, located just outside of Fakenham, is a birder's paradise and the filming location for BBC Springwatch. Thetford Forest, Sandringham with Sandringham House, the cathedral city of Norwich, and the historic maritime town of King's Lynn are all within easy driving distance from Dereham. Enjoy a day or two exploring the beautiful and varied coastline of Norfolk, which includes both sandy and shingle beaches, classic seaside resorts with attractions, charming coastal villages with pretty flint cottages, and fishing harbours dotted with sailing boats.
