Devon, with its quiet country lanes, patchwork of lush green fields and sleepy villages is not to be missed. Stately home lovers will be spoiled and why not finish with a scrumptious Devonshire cream tea?
Family of 4 visited this Woodpecker lodge aged between 57 to 75 years old for a week between the 3rd May to 10th May 2024 with Mollie the cavapoo. This was our second visit, the first being in September 2023 for a weeks holiday which says a lot about this place, area and most of all the hosts Anne and Graham. Anne is the front host, who always gave us a warm welcome and is happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have. From the first to the last contact with her it was like being around a friend more than just a host. Woodpecker lodge is the newer of the 2 lodges on Pound farm, which is a active family working farm. The lodge I believe was finished in about April 23 to a very high standard with home from home comforts. On entering the lodge you are hit with the bright decoration and fresh clean smell. For cleaning I would give this place 10/10 and one of the best holiday property’s over alleged , and we have been to many over a 10 year plus period. Welcome pack of chocolate cake, wine, milk and eggs which was very nice after a long journey to the lodge. The lodge consists of 2 large bedrooms which can be made as singles or king doubles. Bedroom one got a bathroom on suite with a modern bath and shower, toilet and sink and large mirror. Dressing area and hanging space. Bedroom two got a dressing area hanging area and like bedroom one double opening doors to a fantastic view of the rolling hills. Kitchen is fully fitted with everything you could ask for and more. Living area is comfortable with a large dinner table and sofa which converts into a sofa bed for plus 2 extra. Large smart tv. Very good Wi-Fi. Again in this area two sets of double doors that open to the rolling green fields. Utility room with washing machine and sink. Outside you have a wrap around area for dining and sitting in the nice weather ( hopefully). Car park area for up to 3 vehicles. Outside tap with hose and butler sink for washing down muddy boots, dogs and bikes. The lodge is in a peaceful location with great views. Just a 10 to 15 minute walk to the Butterleigh inn pub for nice drinks and good food. Sunday roast was excellent and best to book a table in advance. The small town of Cullompton is about 3 to 4 mile away with shops and large Tesco and petrol station. Great location to visit north and south Devon coasts plus the moors. This location is great for walking and cycling with some testing hills. The host will allow bikes to be locked away in there store area, which is next to the lodge. Dogs are very welcome but MUST be on a lead due to it being a working farm with live stock. We highly recommend this lodge and host and we will return again.
