Burford is one of the most well-known Cotswold settlements, if not THE most well-known. Burford is one of England's most scenic towns, with its ancient bridge, old stone homes, and stunning Tudor and Georgian frontages. The town was initially a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford that eventually evolved to be an important regional crossroads and affluent wool town, and is known as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', offering easy access to Oxford and Cheltenham.

We found Butler's Cottage on line and it seemed perfect. Unfortunately the website we were using reported an error and it would take up to 48 hours to get a response. I looked it up and found Butler's Cottage again at Sykes Holiday Cottages website. They actually have people answering the phone and they were very helpful through the booking process. It was arranged that we had the cottage for that night. The instructions given for accessing the cottage were easy to follow. The address on the High Street in Burford, Oxfordshire was central. Even though it is a busy thoroughfare with a heavy tourist influx during the day, once you opened the door and walked down the private Close to the cottage the noise of the High Street faded away to leave the sounds of birds in the Wisteria and quiet church bells on the hour. The kitchen appears to be a cooks kitchen! Everything you might want including a crepe pan! We had peach crepes for breakfast one day. There is even a dishwasher. There is a laundry room with everything necessary for a traveler. There is a staircase at either end of the cottage so my husband and I used the bedroom and bath on one side of the house while our daughter and baby used the bedroom and bath at the other side. One group did not disturb the other. There was a third bedroom in the middle we did not need. You cannot park on the High Street in front of the cottage for more than 2 hours in the day. There is a public parking lot nearby with 12 hour parking allowed. I moved the car there at 8:00 in the morning and moved back to the street after 6:00 PM. It became my "quiet time" to wander the streets with my camera. It was a wonderful respite and the people at Sykes Holiday Cottages were very helpful at all times. Burford is a wonderful village central to exploring the Cotswold.
