There's something for everyone here, from the nearby North York Moors to the Blue Flag beaches. As one of its many draws, Whitby has a charming atmosphere and a maze of winding streets and hidden alleys where you can find a wide variety of restaurants and shops. Watch the sun go down at the picturesque harbour and lighthouse, or go whale watching or on a coastal cruise to get up close and personal with the local wildlife. Visit the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, which features a historical and ethnographic exhibition about Cook himself, or hike the 199 steps up to Whitby Abbey.
