At the south end of Maidenhead Bay in Ayrshire, this fishing community overlooks Arran, Ailsa Craig, and the Mull of Kintyre. Robert the Bruce landed here after sailing from Rathlin Island in Northern Ireland after his spider experience in the early 14th century. The Earls of Carrick lived in Turnberry Castle, now a ruin. With its mediaeval dock, large beach, two restaurants, and closeness to Turnberry and Culzean Castle, Maidens is a popular tourist destination.
We have stayed at various dog friendly properties and this is The Best. Before we arrived Caroline the owner sent a message to say road works taking place and advising us of the diversion. On arrival exactly as described. A beautiful well looked after property. Everything you could wish for in the kitchen. Everywhere well decorated and felt like home. Excellent huge bathroom and shower. The view from the property is gorgeous. You can see Isle of Arran under various weather conditions. A telescope provided for the scenery and bird life. For dog owners there is a large green area opposite and the Beach is just right. Can walk for ages along this beautiful sandy beach. Very dog friendly. We saw seals and cormorants close up. Excellent location for trips out along this lovely coast. Weather very localised. Great shop over the road open late and lookout for their excellent bread rolls!.
