Location Details

Sandhead, a charming coastal community in the Dumfries and Galloway County region, is nestled in a picturesque nook of South West Scotland. The village looks out over the beautiful Luce Bay, which is home to the Sands of Luce holiday park, a popular beach with opportunities for walks, horseback riding, fishing, swimming, and a sheltered bay with water sports, as well as a village shop, Post Office, Tigh Na Mara pub, a playpark, and a football pitch! The Mull of Galloway Trail, which begins in Stranraer and passes through Sandhead on its way to the Mull of Galloway, Scotland's most southerly point, features an imposing lighthouse, a wonderful nature reserve, and a charming coffee shop. The ancient Kirkmadrine Stones, dating from the 400s, the 16th-century Dunskey Castle, and the spectacular Logan House & Gardens, complete with enchanting woodlands and colourful gardens, are all nearby must-see sites.

Reviews

Not a place I could recommend, the bathroom bin had a used & unwrapped sanitary towel in it, the kitchen although not dirty, was certainly not clean. The welcome pack was good. Being early risers and coming down in the dark, my first morning wake up call , was to tread on one of the many slugs, that we had to evict every morning. The kitchen, bathroom and adjoining passage had slugs every morning. The one and only bathroom is downstairs, it needs work, loose fittings, raised lino, rusty towel radiator and a very unsafe , supposedly non slip bath mat. The furniture is mix & match and not clean or comfortable. Looks like it is straight out of an auction house. Upstairs is an improvement, the beds are comfy. However, the stairs are extremely noisy, so there is no way of not disturbing others if you need to go downstairs during the night. The cottage is not cheap, and I have stayed in far better, far cheaper properties in the area. Parking is on the street outside and is a bit hit & miss, sometimes you can park outside, sometimes not. I raised all my issues, through Sykes Cottages with the owners, basically they did not care. Or that was the impression Sykes gave me.
