Bowness and Windermere, which are practically twins, are two of the most lively and entertaining places in the Lake District. Ambleside, with its boat ride to Bowness, the Lakeside Aquarium, and Beatrix Potter's "Hill Top House" at Sawrey, offers even more attractions than the other town, but both offer a wide variety of services, shops, and restaurants to suit any taste. Nearby Grizedale Forest Park offers a variety of outdoor pursuits, including great walking trails, mountain biking, and the popular "Go Ape!" canopy tour. There are many National Trust properties in the area, and thrill-seekers will appreciate the many water sports available. Grasmere, Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick, and the Lakeland Mountains are all easily accessible, and children will love a visit to the "World of Beatrix Potter" in Bowness.
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
