Location Details

This charming town blends old and new, from the ancient castle remains to the active weekly market and is located near the spectacular Offa's Dyke on the boundary of Wales and England. It is a great place to start if you want to do river boating, take scenic walks, go shopping, or just rest on the banks of the river and watch the rowers who routinely compete and hone their abilities. The Wye, the Monnow, and the Trothy all meet here. Henry V was born in Monmouth, which is also known for its historic architecture, the only surviving mediaeval bridge from the 13th century in Britain, the Nelson Garden, and other notable historical sites. It is true that there are many intriguing places to see in this small town. Short drives will take you to nearby Usk, Abergavenny, Ross-on-Wye, and even into the breath-taking Brecon Beacons, Forest of Dean, and Wye Valley. The surrounding areas are also rich in history. An ideal setting with lots to see and do for people of all ages.

Herefordshire offers visitors the chance to journey through lush green countryside, enjoying splendid black-and-white timbered villages, a magnificent cathedral city, a fairytale Georgian castle at Eastnor or books galore in famous Hay-on-Wye.

Reviews

We stayed at White Roses for my 40th birthday. There were 8 adults and 6 children all under the age of 6. I want to start with the positives - the size of this house is fab for large groups. Lots of bedroom space and a huge well equipped kitchen. Great big sofa for us all to sit around and very comfy beds. It did the job! HOWEVER, the conservatory living room heating / radiator didn’t work whilst we were there, and we did contact the owner/ manager and nobody came out to sort it for us. This meant we had to lock that room off as it was freezing and therefore the children had to join adults in the only other living room. Toilet seat didn’t fit main bathroom toilet and kept coming off, also shower rail was broken and water pressure for the shower was awful. If anybody in the house was using any water such as tap/ toilet/ dishwasher the showers trickled water and went off. Towels didn’t smell clean/ fresh and just generally we all felt the house could do with some TLC, and it could be beautiful! Price though was fair, communication prior to our arrival was very good but that heating issue left us disappointed. It’s a shame because the location is fabulous, pubs, shop and places to visit nearby - but I don’t think we’d return unless those issues were rectified.
