Rugeley is a great place to start seeing Staffordshire because it is a mediaeval market town near to the River Trent and the beautiful Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The town, which was formerly prosperous due to its iron works and glass manufacture, is today a well-built neighbourhood that is popular with both locals and tourists. The town itself is rife with possibilities to indulge in tasty fare, from well-known pubs to independent eateries; there really is something for everyone, and that's not only true of the culinary scene. Markets have been held in Rugeley since the 13th century, making it a great place to stock up on groceries and gifts for friends and family back home. Cannock Chase is a must-see if you're in the area because of its beautiful scenery, rich history, and plenty of animals. The forest itself is home to a number of fantastic attractions, such as the treetop experiences of Go Ape, hiking trails, and the chance to see things in a new light via segways. The Cathedral City of Lichfield is only twenty minutes away by car, and its streets are filled with historic sites including Beacon Park and the Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum and National Memorial Arboretum. Rugeley is a great place for a relaxing vacation, since it is tucked away in scenic countryside and close to a wide variety of exciting activities.
What a quaint place this is, well equipped and everything furnished to a high standard. Great hospitality and warmth throughout the week and we were greeted with fresh bread, eggs, milk and butter and logs for the log burner...... made us feel really welcome. We really enjoyed our circular walk straight from the property immediately into the beautiful countryside and then down to the canal. Also enjoyed our trek around Cannock Chase Forest which was a 5 minute minute drive. Also visited the National Arboretum which was very poignant and did lots of shopping at the nearby MacArthur Glenn centre. Great also to sit outside on the veranda with a G&T and watch the sun go down amongst the beautiful surroundings. Would highly recommend.
We stayed here for 4 night's and we're not disappointed. A gorgeous 1 bedroomed lodge with kitchen area, living room space and bathroom with a fab shower. With stunning views from the bedroom and the living area. Kitchen provided us the ability/choice to cook out own meals with hob and oven. Outside there's a lovely covered space to sit with table, chairs and couch. Plus a lawned area that overlooks the countryside. Our hosts were so friendly and very welcoming and it was lovely to find eggs, bread, milk, tea coffee and biscuits were waiting for us on arrival. We loved every minute of our stay & can highly recommend. A great location to get out into the countryside including Cannock Chase.
