Beach House (Alnmouth)

We travelled 3 hrs with my 81 yo in-laws to Alnmouth, dad isn’t as mobile as he once was and uses 2 sticks, we were aware that the bedrooms were on the first and second floors however that is generally okay. On arrival we discovered that parking is non existent and it’s basically a free for all along the front of the estuary and just your luck how close to the property you get parked, not ideal for dad as he can’t go great distances. Once in the house we found that there is a flight of stairs to a landing, a turn and another 5 stairs before reaching the first bedroom, which he could manage at a struggle however there is no bathroom on the bedroom level and would have been totally impractical for him, just by luck we have relatives in Amble that took him and mum in for the week. Where as this is not technically the fault of the owner, it should be highlighted in more detail. The house itself is old however there has been an attempt at modernising with fresh paint and carpets, we found it largely clean however there are no shortage of cobwebs on the curtain poles and windows and my family of four found it fine for us, although the stairs to the top floor are treacherous, quite narrow and winding and I wouldn’t have trusted myself on them after a couple of glasses of wine! The local pubs and restaurants are in walking distance but, again, it should be noted hills cannot be avoided. All in an average property in an awkward location.
