Location Details
Alnwick Castle, the seat of the Duke of Northumberland, towers over the charming and historic market town of Alnwick. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are a sight to behold for amateur and professional gardeners alike thanks to their stunning rose garden, delightful walled ornamental garden, and Europe's largest cascading water feature. Harry Potter fans will recognise the castle as Hogwarts, the fictional school featured in the series. The town's narrow streets haven't changed much since the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through, and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the focal point and the perfect setting for the weekly Saturday market. With miles of golden sand beaches, dozens of castles, and boat trips to the world-famous Farne Islands all within easy reach, Alnwick is a great place to visit. An ideal base from which to discover Northumberland and its breathtaking Heritage Coast.
