Axminster, a market town in the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the banks of the Axe, is a stunning location. Axminster is a small market town in the English counties of Devon and Dorset, just a few miles inland from the Jurassic Coast and within driving distance of the quaint seaside towns of Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Seaton, and Beer. Axminster has been known as the "carpet capital of the world" for over 250 years. The town is home to the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, the Axminster Heritage Centre, and the Flamingo swimming pool, among other tourist attractions. Those interested in food and drink can visit the town's many locally owned stores, pubs, and weekly market, or hop in the car for a quick trip to the nearby River Cottage HQ, Lyme Bay Winery, or Millers Farm Shop. Axminster is a must-see due to its stunning scenery, wonderful walks, and proximity to the National Trust properties of Shute Barton and Loughwood Meeting House.
Devon, with its quiet country lanes, patchwork of lush green fields and sleepy villages is not to be missed. Stately home lovers will be spoiled and why not finish with a scrumptious Devonshire cream tea?
