The town of Blandford Forum, in the county of Dorset in England, sits on the banks of the Stour River. After a fire most of the town was rebuilt in the 18th century, at which time it acquired its distinctive Georgian style. To rebuild the town's historic core, King George II provided funding, and local architects John and William Bastard were commissioned to create new plans. Each year during the first week of May, Blandford hosts the Georgian Fayre, a celebration of the town's Georgian past that features talks, reenactments, music, and dancing. The Great Dorset Steam Fair is one of the town's most well-attended events, and it takes place on the late Bank Holiday weekend. A vibrant celebration featuring more than two thousand displays and a vintage steam fair. The area features a variety of shops, supermarkets, restaurants, bars, and even a Georgian tearoom. Regardless of the time of year, this charming town is sure to be a hit with visitors thanks to its abundance of unique shops, restaurants, and other attractions.
