Location Details
The Doomsday book made reference to the charming village of Alderton, which is located on the boundary of the Cotswolds and the Vale of Evesham. There is a 16th-century thatched village bar there that serves home-cooked food and real ales, and there is also a post office and village store there that sells goods made in the area. The historic Saxon village of Winchcombe, which lies nearby, has many character-filled boutiques, inns, restaurants, and tea houses. Sudeley Castle, which was once Queen Katherine Parr's castle, is located in the picturesque Cotswold Hills on the outskirts of Winchcombe. It has award-winning gardens, mediaeval ruins, and it frequently hosts events all year long. Broadway, a traditional English village, is only a short drive away and provides a variety of shops and boutiques, art galleries, restaurants, and hotels, including the famed Lygon Arms, a longtime favourite that now has spa services. Alderton is well located for visiting popular tourist destinations including Stratford-upon-Avon, where William Shakespeare was born, and the spa town of Cheltenham, known for the Gold Cup horse race. Warwick Castle and the Cotswold market towns of Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh, and Bourton-on-the-Water are also accessible by short drives.
