Location Details

The attractive old market town of Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), with its old-world atmosphere, is not only set in the magnificent western dales of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but is also close to the rugged eastern fells of the Lake District. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has been a thriving community for hundreds of years, with a market dating from the 13th Century. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry-stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners, and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.

Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

Reviews

The cottage was absolutely stunning. Now back home, I am sorely missing the views and the quiet. It was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The owners are just next door and are very nice people, friendly and accomodating (but also, most of the time, you hardly know they are there). They left a tray of essentials including freshly baked bread and a lovely homemade parkin which we devoured. The track up to the house is a bit steep and narrow but we managed to get two cars up (fully laden) with no issues, just go slow! The benefit of it being well off the main road means that this is very quiet and secluded, no road noise. Just the sound of the river and some sheep. We had three kids with us (10-14). They loved being able to wander around the land and down to the river, which was very quiet until the rain, and then a torrent. At night we were lucky enough to catch the Perseids Meteor shower and a little bit of aurora. Very little light pollution here. We didn't do any walking which I regret but this would be a fantastic spot to hike from. I would love to come back to Roger Pot and highly recommend.

Stunning house in a beautiful location! The house is well equipped and very comfortable indeed. Paul and Karen could not make you feel more welcome and really go the extra mile to make sure you have a great stay. From fresh flowers on the table, to a welcome hamper (plus essentials in the fridge too) with the most amazing Parkin made by Paul and delicious sourdough bread (probably also made by Paul). The rooms are all immaculate and really well presented, with the most beautiful bed linen and the biggest beds we've ever slept in - so comfortable! There is also a really good sized bath in the main bathroom which is perfect after you've been on a cold, windy walk (which you expect in January to be fair). We got regular top ups of fuel for the fire which was brilliant as the weather wasn't the best, so we got to sit in front of the gorgeous burner on an evening which was so cosy. There is a good sized Spar shop in Sedbergh, which is about a 10 minute drive away for any essentials and we can recommend the Haddock Paddock fish & chip shop too. We'd also recommend a walk to Cautley Spout as it's gorgeous there. We will definitely be back again and can not recommend Roger Pot enough. If you get the chance to go, do it, you won't be disappointed.
