Engulfed by magnificent fells, Blanchland straddles the Northumberland and Durham border in the North Pennines AONB. Built with stones from the remains of the 12th century Blanchland Abbey, the village boasts a picturesque scene worthy of the setting choice for Catherine Cookson's novels. Take the time to pay one of the oldest hostelries in the country a visit; the Lord Crewe Arms dates back to the 12th century and offers a wide selection of delicious food and drink. Bordered by bountiful countryside the village offers a plethora of walking opportunities. Nearby the village of Edmundbyers comprises a cluster of pretty cottages scattered around the village green, a Wesleyan Chapel, pub, restaurant and deli. Nestled in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this wonderful area boasts snaking stone walls, sweeping moorland and cascading waterfalls, a welcoming haven for plants and animals. Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and consider a stay in this beautiful region of England.
Rich with fascinating historical sights and rolling countryside, experience Durham's breath-taking views from its position atop a craggy hill. From the iconic Romanesque Cathedral and 11th century Durham Castle nestled in the centre of town, to its sleepy
Brilliant cottage with all the amenities and views to die for. Interior is very comfortable and spacious, with good sized bedrooms. Living spaces are exceptional and with extensive views across the beautiful countryside. The property is clean and well cared for. Although there is a main road close by, this is not intrusive at all and you barely hear the traffic, such as it is and that's not much. The farm cockerel from next door is noisier! Outside spaces are attractive and in fine weather would be lovely to sit in with a glass of something. The village is stunning, easily and quickly accessible from the cottage and the setting is magnificent. Great walks from the front door. Owners are friendly and are easily contactable. Highly recommend for 6 people who love the countryside.
A very comfortable cottage in an amazing location. There's views over the moors from the dining area window and views over the reservoir in the opposite direction. The cottage has lots of room plus a log fire with ample wood and coal provided. The owner is also very helpful and bought some additional kitchen equipment based on our request before we arrived.
This is an amazing find. Stayed with family over the Christmas holidays. Our fabulous hosts decorated the cottage in festive fashion including several real Christmas trees, along with stockings over the mantel. The real log fire was the icing on the cake. The view from every window was amazing, and we were treated to some awesome natural light shows. The kids loved the space, which despite being extensive was also cottage cosy. We visited numerous places in the North East, which always feels like the UK's best kept secret. Great walks, numerous ancient churches, Cathedrals, lakes and forest trails. Not much more required to make this an amazing Christmas break. The local pubs were genuinely welcoming and the food was excellent. We came as a family but this would be just as awesome as a romantic getaway. We couldn't recommend this more, and will most definitely be back again.
What more can I say, pictures don’t do it justice. Amazing house with picturesque scenery on your door step. Great location with pub restaurant just a 5 minute walk away. With great connections to cities such as Newcastle and Durham. Best equipped cottage I have ever stayed in with a cosy and warm atmosphere. Could not recommend more will be back again.
