Location Details

The charming village of Drybrook, a former royal hunting ground, lies in the heart of the Forest of Dean and offers visitors many amenities, including a village store and Post Office, butcher, fish and chip shop and village pub. The area boasts many Nature Reserves, the closest being Wigpool Common, a 19 acre SSSI, a great place for nature lovers to see many rare species of flora, fauna and birds. The Royal Forest of Dean, England's largest oak forest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offers numerous trails that can be explored on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. Caving, abseiling and a high wire rope course are all on offer for the more adventurous, whilst fishing, golf, kayaking and canoeing are other popular activities in this unspoilt area. Drybrook is located close to the delightful market towns of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth, whose timbered Tudor buildings, striking 17th century market halls, majestic bridges, excellent shops, pubs and restaurants to suit all tastes, all make these areas a must to visit. Stroll along the banks of the beautiful River Wye, take a river cruise or view the stunning countryside from a hot air balloon! Explore Goodrich Castle, a perfect example of a 12th century 'Marcher Castle', or enjoy the renowned walks along Offa's Dyke and the Wye Valley Walk. Just a short drive away, in the historic waterfront city of Gloucester, you will find Roman foundations, Victorian Docklands and a spectacular Norman cathedral; you may recognise the Cloisters as they were used in the Harry Potter films. Visit Symonds Yat with its towering rock where peregrine falcons breed or The Severn Estuary, famous for its tidal bore and a great place for wildlife enthusiasts. A great Gloucestershire cottage for a memorable holiday at any time of year.

Herefordshire offers visitors the chance to journey through lush green countryside, enjoying splendid black-and-white timbered villages, a magnificent cathedral city, a fairytale Georgian castle at Eastnor or books galore in famous Hay-on-Wye.

Reviews

This was one of the best holiday accommodation we've stayed in everything was beautifully presented and to a very high standard such a comfy bed and very easy to charge our EV the owners were extremely helpful would happily go at a different time of year to see the forest again

Aneth's Annex is a real gem. It has been tastefully furnished to a very high standard & is extremely well equipped & comfortable. The location is also great for exploring the Wye Valley. Dan & Steph are wonderful hosts who are nonintrusive but there if you need anything. The welcome supplies that were left for us were also a very thoughtful gesture. We very much hope to return in the future!

My husband and I have just celebrated Christmas in this wonderful location. I am almost sad to write the review as this will then mean it may be difficult for us to book in the future as I can see this bolt hole being a popular place to stay. We were welcomed to a warm and inviting home with a beautiful Christmas tree twinkling away. There was a bottle of prosecco and some basic necessities. This is a new rental which Dan built himself and it has been built and decorated to a very high standard. Everything is matching and is good quality. I am disabled and usually have difficulty in sleeping in normal beds as I am used to a water bed however, this bed was extremely comfortable. Sadly, it has rained every day we have been here which meant that we had a couple of days just resting in the home. When there is a two minute blackout we had a text from Dan to make sure we were okay and had everything we needed. When I mentioned that we were waiting for the rain to stop in order to go and purchase some games as we were going to be staying in, within two minutes Dan bought over a bag full of games for us which was above and beyond especially as it was Boxing Day. Dan has checked on us throughout the week to make sure we are okay. We will definitely be rebooking this property as it has been such a wonderful day. Thank you very much for Dan and his family and wish you a happy New year
