Reviews

This was a perfect place for our short break. The cottage was spotlessly clean and wanted for nothing. The wood burning stove was an added bonus which created cosy nights after our days in the wintry weather. There was plenty of room for the two of us and our dog. A lovely peaceful location away from the hustle and bustle of Scarborough but within easy reach of both Scarborough and Whitby. It could not have been better - we will definitely be back.

Surprisingly spacious, immaculate, cosy and comfortable little place with everything we needed in a well kept private grounds. We found this the perfect spot to unwind as did our three year old Retreiver.

Rated by HarbyUK reviewed on 14th September 2019

This is easily our favourite cottage! Seems in the middle of nowhere yet only 7 miles from Scarborough and 12 from Whitby, the cottage is set in extensive grounds overlooking beautiful Moors scenery. Inside it is so cozy, ideal for a couple, although it sleeps 4 two of the bedrooms are more suited to children I think. The cottage has been imaginatively restored from former farm buldings with quaint beams and a lovely wood burning stove, it has a smallish kitchen but one that is really well equipped with everything you could possibly need and no detail has been overlooked. It’s dog friendly too which is a bonus, The owners, who live on site, are lovely, so friendly and accommodating. This is our second visit and we hope to return one day.

What a lovely cottage! The fixtures and fittings were superb; lovely cushions, pottery, pictures, curtains and upholstery. We felt as though we were staying in someone's house. The owner, was very friendly and welcoming. The cottage was well placed for the Cleveland Way and Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay. We will definitely go back!

A lovely little cottage, and the owners were so friendly and helpful. Will certainly be returning.

Rated by Mr Marrington reviewed on 14th November 2015

The cottage lived up to the description and reviews and the scenery, local walks etc. are superb. The only reason I didn't give it 5/5 is because I managed to scrape the skin off my head (no hair for protection) on the low beams upstairs 3 times, the water taps in the kitchen sink turn the wrong way ending up in me getting rather wet a number of times and the pillows were rather firm. Despite this I would definitely return

Rated by Davebb1955 reviewed on 15th October 2015

Myself, wife and two children have just returned home from staying here for a week. As the title suggests this was a great place to stay. The peaceful location is fantastic and you have all the facilities you need. The house was spotless when we arrived with nice touches such as soap, milk and towels, which you don't always get. The cottage is compact but was big enough for us. The two single rooms are advertised as children's rooms and they were exactly that. The beams give the cottage character but if you are 6ft tall watch your head in places. I liked the WiFi and the digi tv and my daughter liked the ponies in the fields just outside. There are sheep and cattle nearby as well. There are a few pubs nearby and plenty of walks, however we spent most of our time touring about in the car. All in all it is an idyllic place to stay, just watch your head in places

Rated by arabforbesie reviewed on 16th July 2015

The cottage, the owners and resident animals were all lovely. The area was great for coastal sightseeing and also for getting onto the moors for a walk. We encountered wildlife at every turn; from puffins and woodpeckers to barn owls, roe deer and highland cows. Spring has definitely sprung!

Rated by Mr Hounslow reviewed on 4th April 2015

The cottage is so beautiful and surrounded by the most wonderful countryside. The owners were extremely helpful with local information and nothing was too much trouble. We were made very welcome and it was so nice to be able to walk our puppy safely in the lovely grounds. We would recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a nice tranquil break and give it 5 stars.

I am torn about making this entry because I would rather keep this place secret! Weekend visit before Christmas. family two kids and dog. Log burner roaring away it couldn't get much better. This is our second visit this year having spent a week here in the summer. The cottage itself is fantastic. Spotless upon arrival with everything you need no matter how long your stay is for. Dont be fooled that its a cottage it is surprisingly roomy.Graham and Pippa are fantastic hosts, There if needed but not hovering in the background. Its a fantastic location for any of the main east coast resorts or simply some walking on the beaches depending on the time of year.. I would have no problem whatsoever in wholeheartedly recommending Honey Bee Cottage (Unfortunately!)

From the moment we arrived everything was perfect; the location and the first impressions of Honey Bee. The linen provided was fresh, clean and very luxurious, all beds were made and Egyptian cotton towels laid out on the bed for us. There's everything you need at Honey Bee - from tea towels to cooking tongs, pint glasses to wine glasses.

Summer Bee cottage has everything you would want situated in a quiet secluded valley not far from Robin Hoods Bay and is dog friendly. It has 2 bedrooms, central heating. The kitchen is well appointed with washer/drier, dish washer etc and even has a log burner in the living area. The owners are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. When you arrive there is a small tray of tea, coffee, milk and biscuits to welcome you. there is 1 double bed room with a comfy bed but you do have to mind your head as i found to my cost as the beams are very low. the second bedroom is 2 single beds. we have stayed regularly over the past few years and it has always been excellent. Thanks

Friendly people owned the property. Really good location for walking and good pubs within a short drive or reasonable walking distance. The immediate area was really good for getting out with our dog rather than having to drive somewhere first to walk him. We all liked this property and will be looking to return later.

We had a 6 night stay in October and found the cottage to be clean and cosy. It was very extensively equipped with everything you could need - a real home from home. The views were beautiful, we loved the low window in the main bedroom where you could lie in bed and view the countryside. The other bedrooms very small but adequate, even for an adult we thought. Some low beams though so watch your head if you are tall - I was OK at 5 foot 2! We didnt try the log burner as the weather was beautiful! The owners are very approachable and offered good advice on local pubs and walks etc. Loved the guinae fowl peeping in through the bathroom window! Would recommend this cottage to anyone.

Fantastic cottage, hosts, scenery, and as it turned out, weather. The owners were very friendly and informative, and the cottage was stunning. There are very few places in the UK, or the world, that can hold a candle to the beauty of this location. And if you like animals, this place is a perfect menagerie with various farm animals, and enough wildlife to keep David Attenborough happy.

Honey Bee cottage is a superbly situated cottage, well equipped and beautifully decorated. The location while peaceful is still within easy reach of Robin Hood's Bay, Scarborough and Whitby. Plenty of areas for walks and children to play. The cottage itself was very cosy with lovely comfy beds and the luxury of a choice of a bath or a shower at the end of a busy day. Pippa and Graham who own the cottage were very friendly and helpful and both the children loved Ginny (the dog).

The location was perfect, tremendous views, peace and quiet and not far from many places of outstanding beauty and national interest. The accommadation was very compact, the main bedroom was fine but the two singles were quite claustrophobic which was such a pity. It was difficult to even get dressed in them! and no storage. The owners were lovely, and very helpful, always around in case we needed anything. Ideal for a couple with two small children! Also great that they accepted pets.

Our choice of Honey Bee Cottage made our holiday. While never at a loss for things to do in the area, we were always so happy to come home. It was lovely to be able to walk to Hayburn Wyke for Sunday lunch, or turn the other way out the door and access footpaths through wild flowers and down to streams. Whenever we missed our pets back home, the ponies were happy to fill in, but the highlight for my son had to be brushing the gentle Highland Cattle! I was delighted with the quality of all the work and choices of our hosts. We will always treasure the memory of our stay there. It is a special place.

This the third time that we have booked our holiday with Sykes and we can't speak highly enough of the company as a whole, from the customer services staff when you book your holiday, all the way throught to the owners of the cottages themselves. They are always friendly and willing to go the extra mile to make sure that you have a fantastic holiday. Honey Bee cottage is a little treasure, set next to the owners home and in acres of farm land, it was beautifully decorated and scrupiously clean, the decor was well thought out and in keeping with the age of the cottage. The owners were very friendly and offered up suggestions of where the best pubs and eating places were. The location of the cottage meant that we were between Scarbough and Whitby, so we were ideally placed to visit their beachs or drive over to the moors too Goathland and the Hole of Horcum. The best part of the holidays was waking up to the sound of cows mooing in the field behind the cottage, the breathtaking sunsets and sunrises and finding the owners dog Ginny outside the front door waiting for her home cooked breakfast sausage every morning and not forgetting the Highland cattle and the owners ponies that would gallop up the field to greet us whenever we left or came back to the cottage.

Rated by Mr Blom reviewed on 7th November 2007

We loved the peaceful location, the scenery, the log fire, the quaint look of the property and all of the little extras. Also, we appreciated the books, playing cards etc. The cottage was warm and cosy and it had all home comforts, like a dishwasher, microwave etc. The area had lots to see and do, plus lots of lovely restaurants and pub meals within a few miles radius. We will definitely return.

The owners were extremely friendly and made us very welcome. Our daughter loved the animals they had and was delighted when a couple of baby highland cattle arrived during our stay, even more so when she saw them because they looked like little teddy bears.

Rated by Mr Campbell-blair reviewed on 8th April 2007

The cottage was in a really stunning location - sea/country views. With a toddler it was brilliant having the animals on site and small walks to do straight from the property. The cottage was beautifully decorated and very clean. It felt like a really special rural retreat.

Loved the location, a very homely cottage to come back to. Views were stunning. Felt this cottage was excellent value for money. The owners were very friendly but left us to our own devices. Although quite an isolated spot nothing was too far away. Wonderful for a week of rest and relaxation, we wouldnt hesitate to recommend it.

Rated by Mrs Gomersall reviewed on 23rd May 2006

A friendly welcome. Away from it all and off the beaten track, literally. My granddaughter loved the animals close at hand, and we could have just sat outside the cottage and enjoyed, rather than touring it was so peaceful. The cottage was clean and cosy.

We've never stayed in a cottage for a holiday before, we usually spend all day sight-seeing and only sleep wherever we've booked accommodation! It was lovely to relax and enjoy the cottage as much as we enjoyed seeing what we'd come to robin hood's bay/whitby for. It was fantastic value (we'd pay this to stay bed&breakfast), and similar to other peoples' comments in the visitor's book...we had lots planned to do outdoors but felt so happy inside that we spent quite a bit of time there. A fantastic short break!

We were surprised to be welcomed with a tray of tea and biscuits and the fresh flower arrangements, the cottage was more than we expected. Our children loved their bedrooms and that they were near to the horses and rabbits. We liked to thank you for your big help to book our holiday with you within a few days.
