The property, newly built in 2004 in the form of a signal box, is adjacent to the station in the Badenoch & Strathspey village of Newtonmore. To make the most of the panoramic views towards the River Spey and Cairngorm Mountains, the accommodation is upside down, with a spacious, open plan living area on the first floor, while on the ground floor is a double bedroom and bathroom with sauna. Decorated to a high standard, this charming property is in an ideal location to explore the village and take advantage of the walking in the area. The cottage is 150 metres from a link into the Wildcat Trail - a 7km orbital walk and path network. The other attractions of the Cairngorms National Park are also within easy reach - an excellent base at any time of year!

Overlooking the River Spey, in the Cairngorms National Park, Newtonmore has several shops and pubs, as well as the Newtonmore Craft Centre and two excellent, award-winning museums. The area offers fine golf, fishing, pony trekking, walking, bird-watching, cycling, mountain-biking, climbing and skiing, making it an ideal base from which to discover all that this scenic area of Scotland has to offer.
From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Second stay at the signal box and yet again not disappointed. As it was our Honeymoon we wanted somewhere special and this was at the top of our list. Fantastic place and surroundings. Highly recommended if you fancy treating yourselves.
The Signal Box was a beautifully looked after, warm and welcoming home from home for our exploring of the Scottish Highlands. Incredibly clean, well presented, quirky and equipped for everything! On arrival was a (slightly addictive...) chocolate cake, milk and everything there to get the wood burner going... and the view!!!! My God, the view....... We watched the sun creep over the mountains every day in awe of the scenery. In recommendation we tried the Glen Hotel for food which was okay, but after reading the reviews we expected better food/service and were a bit disappointed. The Braeriach Hotel on the high street on the other hand was a riot!! If you want to be welcomed into the community with open arms and enjoy great company and a few drinks whilst listening to the regulars blast out Sinatra on the karaoke (Friday night) this is the place for you! One of the best nights out for a long time ending in hugs and "come back to see us again." Truly felt welcomed and left with a warm fuzzy glow.... (could also account that to the whisky....) If you want to laugh continuously for a few hours, pay them a visit. The Scottish highlands has so much to see and do and the Signal Box is central to it all. Our first visit and I doubt it will be our last. Thank you Isla for a wonderful stay.”
It must surely have been a labour of love to have made the signalbox into such a perfect holiday home . It is spotlessly clean, warm enough for the chilliest days, and has everything that a visitor could possibly need and then some ! We appreciated the home made cake , flowers and milk to welcome us and also the sauna after our days out . The latter resulted in great hilarity and photos which I will NOT be posting .. By the end of the week we were on waving terms with the guards and passengers on the trains and , of course, the sheep . We've never stayed in a better place than the signalbox at Newtonmore.
We have just had the most wonderful week at the Signal Box! This is one where you really should believe the hype. It's perfectly located, immaculately presented and has everything that you could possibly need including a super-friendly and gracious host in Isla, who furnished us with not only an excellent recommendation for a wonderful local mountain climb but also the secret recipe to her divine chocolate cake! We all had great fun exploring beautiful Newtonmore and found it a great jumping point from which to explore the Cairngorms, Loch Ness, Inverness and Pitlochry. The scenery was spectacular and changed constantly so the TV never went on...and that's no small achievement when you have a 13 year old and 9 year old in tow! I would wholeheartedly recommend the Signal Box to anybody wanting to stay somewhere a bit extra special.
Booked through Sykes Cottages and have reviewed on there but thought I would on here too. If you are thinking of booking The Signal Box then just do it and you won't be disappointed. Great location, lovely property and fantastic views of the Cairngorms. We visited for a week in April and had a good lot of snow which made it just magical. Plenty of places to visit nearby and further afield. Visit the Cairngorm mountain, Aviemore and if you are up for a drive head over to Isle of Skye! Well worth it. Thanks to the owners for providing such a lovely place to stay and the freshly baked chocolate cake when we arrived was a lovely surprise!!
The appeal of the Signal Box for us was our connection to the railway, having both worked with railway companies in the past. The photographs and reviews of the Signal Box beforehand were all very encouraging, and the booking process, arranging key collection with Mrs Russell and arriving/departing was all very flexible and easy. On arrival, the Signal Box looks stunning from the outside, and once inside, it is filled with every conceivable home comfort you could need, including being greeted by a delicious home made chocolate cake and fresh flowers and a thoughtful pint of milk from the owner, with lovely fresh decor and loads of space to relax throughout. We didn't use the television once as the views across to the surrounding hillls (snowcapped!), golfers in the distance, the arrivals and departures from the passing trains and the new born lambs in the field across the road provided plenty of entertainment and just made it the perfect time of year to be there and to enjoy nature. Sitting in the comfortable armchairs, on the couch or at the dining table all gave different views through the many windows around the top floor - whoever designed the Signal Box was inspired! The kitchen is fully equipped with every possible utensil and cooking equipment if you like self-catering, or a 10 min stroll to the start of Newtonmore main street gives options for dining out - would highly recommend the Glen Hotel at the start of the main street, excellent food and great service, and huge portions, and lots of craft ales and whiskies on offer. The sleeping and bathroom facilities are excellent, comfy bed, lots of storage space, great water pressure for the shower and the bathroom under-floor heating was a treat!! Lots of books and games on offer for visitors, and particularly loved the collection of railway and train books which obviously belonged to an enthusiast, and photographs of old Newtonmore station on the walls. Would recommend trying the Wildcat trail walk, about 7 miles and leaves from just beside the station, a circular walk taking you through different landscapes, along beside the River Spey and upwards for stunning views, farm fields, forest and waterfalls, as well as several other walks around the area of varying degrees of ease/difficulty depending on your fitness level and length of stay. The Signal Box is in a lovely quiet area beside the station, we slept like logs on both of our nights here! On our last morning the sun was shining and it was warm enough to sit outside the Box upstairs on the bench and enjoy the heat of the sun for a little while, before we sadly had to head for home. The time here was so relaxing and comfortable (especially when the log burning stove was on!), it felt like we had been there a lot longer than two nights. We both agreed that we can't wait to come back again, thank you Mrs Russell and family for a fantastic stay in amazing place :-)
Walking upstairs from the downstairs bedroom is a daily delight. Arriving in the huge kitchen / dining / living space one is constantly amazed by the views across Strathspey ... for miles and miles both up and down the valley. The handy binoculars allow for great close-ups of brown hate in the field directly opposite. The accommodation is very well planned and maintained. It's comfortable and cosy. So glad we managed to get a cancellation and get here. Will be returning.
Liked everything! The trains, the views and the property which had everything we needed. Just fantastic!
Everything about Signal Box was perfect, we liked it all.
It was perfect!
This was our second time staying at the Signal Box. The whole place was spotless, with clear instructions for all appliances, there was nothing to fault at all. My husband enjoyed the sauna a few times. An excellent property which was well placed to explore the Cairngorms.
The Signal Box - where to start! It' s a beautifully appointed holiday home - just right for a couple. Cosy and comfortable - perfect to come home to on a cold day. The cottage owner Isla has prepared it as though it was her own home - full of lovely little touches that just make your stay special. From the well stocked kitchen ( every implement you could want) to the bathroom with fluffy towels and scented hand wash ( and underfloor heating) - she has considered everything. The cottage is well situated for keen walkers. Don't miss the the Wildcat walk and take advantage of all the hills nearby. Well situated for Pitlochry, Aviemore, Inverness. Thanks Isla - who else would spoil you with flowers and a chocolate cake on arrival.
Great location surrounded by wonderful countryside. Located in a quiet area away from the hustle and bustle. A very good place to chill and recharge the batteries.
Isla provided a thoughtful welcome by leaving out chocolate cake and milk for our arrival. The signal box is easily found and is a great base to explore the surrounding area. Although the trains are quite frequent, they're not a distraction and the lovely views from the cottage of the sheep, lambs, bunnies and Cairngorm mountain range are great to come back to after days out. The cottage was really homely and my other half loved using the wood burning stove in the evenings. Everything is provided. Would definitely stay here again if we revisit the area.
Everything was provided and well catered for, and all instructions were available for all the appliances etc. Loved the views and the wood burning stove.
The Signal Box was stunning! Not just the internal décor, but the scenery from the windows was breathtaking, with the added extra of the trains. The owner of the property was not intrusive at all, but we knew how to get hold of her if needed. The property is located pretty centrally for all areas, such as Pitlochry, Aviemore, Perth, Inverness etc. Excellent on all levels.
Again, a great cottage and so different. The property is comfortable, spacious, very clean - a real home from home. The owners go out of their way to make your stay a great one. The location is fabulous, even for non-train spotters. All in all, a great place to stay.
Stayed here for a week at the end of November, it truly is amazing. Location is just perfect with amazing views, the accommodation is finished to the highest specification. The log fire is simply fantastic, with all logs provided for your stay. The signal box is so homely and comfortable we just didn't want to leave! This place is a real gem, totally unique and most definitely the best self catering holiday home we have ever stayed in, this fabulous place is without a doubt 5* The home made chocolate cake and pretty flowers waiting for us upon just confirmed to us that this place is as wonderful as all the other reviewers have said! Can't wait to cone back next year. Book now you won't regret it.
Scotland is a beautiful place. The signal box is ideal for a holiday it has everything you could need and more. The scenery from the window is amazing, lots of wildlife to see, lots to do in the local area we have stayed in the Signal box three times and every time we have had a fabulous holiday. Home from home.
The house really feels like home. Inside the house is of good quality and you can notice that on everything; the good shower, nice thick towels, good bed and chairs in front of the fireplace. Even the wood for the fire is all chopped waiting for you. The house is very light and spacious and the view is just amazing, we kept looking outside. All in all a wonderful experience!
This property is superb, purpose built as a holiday let using wood which has been sourced locally and is very comfortable. It has everything you could possibly want including excellent views and the pleasure of passing trains which are not at all intrusive, even the very occasional one passing during the night which all adds to the ambience. The location is very convenient for touring with good access to the A9 and even the West Coast at Fort William is only an hour away If you do not want to use a car you can get a train to Inverness or Perth virtually from the front door. Book it quickly because it is,rightly, very popular and one of the very best self catering lets in Scotland.
The property is light, spacious and in very good condition with excellent views. The location with respect to being adjacent to the railway with a signalman's view of the trains enhanced the experience and made this holiday one of the most memorable that I have had. The Caretaker was as wonderful as her cake.
This is a wonderful holiday home and I would recommend it to anyone. Beautiful surroundings and beautiful furnishings. It was very comfortable, immaculately clean, and everything you might need for a super holiday. We watched the trains go by and waved to everyone, and they did not disturb us at all. We will certainly go again.
We spent a week in this purpose built property which looks like a signal box. Trains run approximately hourly through the day - we did not find them intrusive. There are commercial properties adjacent, presumably in the former goods yard, but the views are across fields to the hills beyond. Heaven. Ideal for walking and wildlife watching. We hope to return.
We have just had our 3rd trip to the Signal Box and again we had a lovely relaxing break. The accommodation is extremely comfortable, cosy and clean. Everything you could need or want has been thought of. The welcome chocolate cake is sublime and the sauna a real treat after a day out.
Very relaxing with spectacular views. Good location. Very thoughtful attention to detail at the property. Clear instructions about the property's facilities.
We had a very enjoyable holiday. The Signal Box is ideal for travelling to and around using the trains. Many good walks around Newtonmore and the Cairngorms. We also went on the scenic rail journey to Kyle of Lochalsh. The property is well equipped, and the views from it are breathtaking.
Lovely house in a lovely location, could not ask for more.
The Signal Box has everything and more that you need. Everything was of a very high standard from cleanliness to comfort there is nothing it does not have and the owners are very thoughtful. The scenery from the wall of windows is fantastic. We would highly recommend this accommodation.
It was a lovely holiday, the best holiday we have had, and the Signal Box made our holiday, as it was so clean, well equipped, very comfortable and we did not want to leave. We had lovely panoramic views from the cottage and there was so much to do on your doorstep. The trains were an added bonus. The owner was very hospitable and had put great thought into everything.
The property and furnishings are immaculate. The location is perfectly placed every type of activity you can imagine, whether it be purely sightseeing or something more adventurous.
It looked as if it was built yesterday and was so bright, clean and convenient. I liked not having to drag my suitcase upstairs as bedroom was on the ground floor. I enjoyed having such wonderful views from the living room and also having an external staircase as well as inside. We were welcomed with milk and chocolate cake and the owner's mum took me shopping the day after we arrived. So convenient for arriving by train and having train service so close by. Cannot recommend highly enough.
It was our 4th stay in the Signal Box and as usual the property was in immaculate condition. There is always something to see out of the panoramic windows, whether it be the trains coming and going or the wildlife or the every changing colours of the mountains.
This is a wonderful place to spend a week. The views of the mountains are stunning. The trains are interesting, and not at all bothersome. The furnishings are tasteful and comfortable. The log fire (and sauna) are warming. Beautiful.
Excellent location and an unusual property. Very friendly owner.
As always a first class holiday in first class property. A credit to the owners!
Everything about the Signal Box was wonderful, can't wait to return again next year - just hope we can get booked in! All the praise and thanks are well deserved - one of the best holiday rentals we have had the pleasure to stay in.
Very convenient for the railway station. This meant we didn't need to use the car every day. The property was immaculate. It appeared to have been recently redecorated.
This has to be one of the greatest holidays that we have ever been on. From Isla's warm welcome to the chocolate cake that waited for us on arrival, everything was perfect. The Signalbox is clean, spacious and set in beautiful countryside. We never tired of looking out the windows at The Cairngorms. Our 18 month old son loved the trains that stopped or passed through the station and was in his element exploring the cottage. There is plenty to explore on your doorstep with the Highland Folk Museum about 25-30 minutes walk away and aviemore a short drive of 10-15 minutes. Further afield, we visited Inverness, Ben Nevis, the Wildlife Park at Kingussie and the nearby Inshriach Nursery that makes amazing cakes. Wonderful, hope to pop back sooner rather than later!

Our 6th visit which says it all really. The owner is friendly and available but never intrusive, feels like our 2nd home.
Really beautiful setting. Clean, cosy, perfect!
I liked the quirkiness of the building and the village location.
Everything we could possibly need was provided and it was in a lovely area, with lots to do.
Location was great! Lovely views to the Cairngorm mountains. Excellent and interesting property which was maintained to a very high standard. Particularly liked the nice touch of the chocolate cake on arrival.
The standard of the cottage was excellent and it is in a nice village with good amenities. An excellent view, and overall a very nice place to spend a holiday.
The location of the Signal Box was fantastic! So much to see in the area and although on the train line, trains are infrequent and an enjoyable distraction. The accommodation was to a fantastic standard. We didn't want to leave! Little touches like chocolate cake, milk and flowers on arrival are also appreciated.
The overall standard of this property was one of the highest we have come across.
The Signal Box was easy to find, close to pubs, shops and places to eat. The place itself was well kitted out with everything you could need! The Wildcat Walk was the best...I think it's based around kids, but becomes highly addictive!
The holiday was fantastic! Everyone was so nice! The little touches like the bottle of fizz, balloon and chocolate cake were much appreciated, not to mention the pint of milk! Top marks!
A lovely comfortable cottage and a nice welcome from the owner with homemade cake. Cottage could not be better. Very clean and comfortable with great views. Only suggestion I would make would be that a tumble dryer would be useful for winter stays.
I loved the warm welcome we received from the owner and the kind thought of leaving a cake for us. We were informed of exactly where we could get hold of owner if needed. Lots of information was left for us regards places to eat and visit.
The Signal Box and the beautiful surroundings made the holiday for us. The lovely touches like the cake, flowers, and fresh milk were so welcoming upon arrival. The cleanliness of the place was top class.
The panoramic view from the first floor kitchen and lounge areas are just outstanding. The property is ideally situated as a base for touring the Highlands with many walks and visitor attractions either right on your doorstep or just a short drive away.
The Signal Box is the nicest cottage we've ever stayed in. The furnishings superb, the views spectacular, lovely walks nearby and plenty to do. A very relaxing and peaceful holiday, the sauna made it extra special!
Perfect location, private and a great standard of finish. Excellent caretaker.
The location was perfect and the local amenities are within walking distance. The people were very friendly.
This was our second visit to the Signal Box. The location is excellent, ideal for walking and sightseeing either by car or train. It is very well equipped and spotlessly clean. The views from the property are amazing.
The accommodation was fantastic and we had a great time!
Fantastic location. Walks immediately on the doorstep and the views from the Signal Box are breathtaking. The property is furnished to a high standard and is spotlessly clean. Sauna was much appreciated after long days out on the snowy mountains. We were thrilled that dogs are welcome at the Signal Box - dogs need holidays too!
Wonderful property - one of the best we have ever stayed in. We enjoyed Isla's warm welcome and her fabulous chocolate cake. We could not fault anything about the Signal Box, fantastic location, warm and cosy, great wood burning stove and welcoming sauna after long days on the mountains. It was quite unexpected to find such a first rate holiday accommodation which also welcomed a dog. Newtonmore is a lovely village, ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy walks and wildlife. We also highly recommend the Letterbox restaurant in the village. A great week - we will return.
Great access for public transport to explore area.
Relaxation, so impressed by cleanliness standard, They have thought of everything as well as a welcoming touch in the form of a welcome chocolate cake & a beautiful Xmas plant.
Fabulous cottage - excellent location, every single amenity was considered. It was immaculate.
It was the best self catering holiday we've been on! We would highly recommend the Signal Box, the views are stunning and there is plenty to do. The Signal Box was very clean and has everything you need.
We loved all aspects of the Signal Box! It was very comfortable- everything we needed was provided,( even things we thought we didn't need like chocolate cake) which was delicious! The owners went out of theitr way to provide a wonderfull holiday home for their guests! 10 out of 10.
Liked the brilliant location and the "quirkiness" of the property. Personal touches like cake and flowers, from the owner.
My husband is a train enthusiast and when we saw we were on a working line he thought he had died and gone to heaven!!! We thought the Signal Box was fantastic and we would, and have, recommended it to many people.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week stay in the Signal Box. Enjoyed eating our meals watching the wildlife, flock of Greylag Geese roosted for 3 nights. Got to know the time of day by the trains that stopped at the station. Yummy chocolate cake - very enjoyable. Recommend visiting Waltzing Waters and Highland Folk Museum (free) in Newtonmore.
We liked every aspect- this is why we go to Scotland and use Sykes Cottages. We have already recommended the Signal Box. Everything was of the highest quality, the owner was lovely and helpful, plus the choclate cake was to die for!
The signal box was central to most places it was comfortable light and airy great fun we loved it so much we did not want to leave. the only down side to the signal box is that it is difficult to book again for next year as it seems fully booked up you should build more fantastic
The cottage was furnished and decorated to a very high standard with everything we could have needed, it was very well equipped. Appreciated the sauna after a long day of walking. The area is beautiful with outstanding scenery. Loved the fact that we didn't have to pay extra for our dog to stay like we often do.
The accommodation was outstanding. It was in an ideal location; we were close to everything we needed. One of the best holidays we have had in a long time and the Scottish people were great everywhere we went. We took our 8year old granddaughter and she loved the Signal Box and the trains waving to everyone and the history of the wildcats. She took pictures of all the ones we could see!
This was our second visit to the signal box and it was just as good as before - stunning scenery from all windows - good fun watching the trains come and go! One of our favorite 'Sykes' properties. Nick and Sandra.
The Signal Box is the self caterers dream property being bright, modern, clean and very welcoming.
This is the best holiday we've ever had. The Signal Box was 110%. Excellently fitted out. The views were great, great info box, trains, animals, helpful people, all things to make a great experience.
The property was so good. Can't rate it or the surrounding area highly enough - all superb!
The Signal Box was the cleanest, most comfortable and well equipped holiday let we have stayed in. We particularly enjoyed the views of the Cairngorms and the convenience of the location for exploring the area. 1st class.
Having the train literally on our doorstep really made this holiday. The Signalbox is on the platform of Newtonmore station. We arrived by train and left for home on the Caledonian Sleeper. We used the train to visit Inverness and Aviemore, for skiing at Cairngorm and walking in the Glenmore Forest. The cottage, with the living room and kitchen upstairs gave us lovely views towards the Cairngorms. It also made us into noseyparkers: we couldn't resist looking to see who got on and off the trains that stopped at the station! The cottage was very well appointed even having a sauna cubicle downstairs. We loved the log burner and the limitless supply of wood to keep it going. There was a marked walking trail around Newtonmore, about 6 miles, that is well worth doing. The village has a decent Co-op and the local garage has a shop too. There are a couple of pubs in the village and at least one hotel open to non-residents. One disappointment was that the restaurant recommended by many in the Visitors Book was closed for the two weeks at the end of January as was the most interesting looking shop in the village.
This was a fantastic holiday home in a stunning location, very well placed to visit the Highlands. Being by a railway station was great fun and the Signal Box is quirky, immaculate and to a very high standard.
Greeted by the owner on our arrival at the station. A very special holiday home, with all home comforts on hand. Very clean, cosy and we enjoyed seeing the trains arriving each evening and early mornings. Great walks from the front door. Took the train to Avimore and spent the day walking at the Cairngorm Mountain centre. Short distance to the local shops. A lovely place to spend a relaxing week, with the bonus of wonderful scenery.
Located on the platform of the mainline to Inverness made this an excellent cottage for a holiday using only rail for transport. The overnight sleeper to Euston stops at your door!
We had a wonderful snowy Christmas at the Signal Box. The Christmas Tree and Christmas chocolate cake was very welcoming and despite the cold weather, we found the Signal Box was always toasty and warm. The view was amazing.
The house was well furnished with everything and more you could need. We used the sauna after enjoying long walks, this was a great benefit as it was during heavy snow and as you could imagine, quite cold. The Calendonian sleeper train also passed on a regular basis but it didn't disturb our peace and quiet but qas really lovely to see. The small town of Newtonmore served us well, we were within a short walking distance of local shops and pubs and we also took the train in preferance to the car - as it couldn't have been more convenient to use, being right on the doorstep. We would recommend the area and the property for a lovely holiday. The kind owner of the property also left a tasty chocolate cake for us, which was a sweet (no pun intended!) touch.
This was our second visit and we've already booked a third visit as I write. This is a very comfortable base with excellent facilities which meet the demands of two adults and a teenage daughter! We find it very relaxing - comfy seats and woodburner plus excellant views. We have all made use of the sauna. There are good restaurants in the vicinity and we have also taken the train to Aviemore and also upto Inverness.
This was the perfect place to stay, a signal box by the railway. Fantastic views, watching the Rabbits and other wildlife. A good place to have a base to see other parts of Scotland. The accomadation was first class , the kitchen was a good size with all the tools you could ask for (except a thermomix tm31). We had a superb Week the weather was stunning. I can thoroughly recommend the wild Cat Trail (take a couple bottle of beers and remember the bottle opener) a very pleasent walk on a very sunny day. Please visit the museums well worth the effort. if you want to Stay in scotland this is the place
This is a delightful property - very well equipped and wonderfully warm. A gorgeous chocolate cake, flowers and fresh milk on arrival and the scenery from the windows of the Cairngorm Mountains is breath taking. The Signal Box was a very relaxing place.
We arrived by train (if travelling long distance BOOK A SEAT!). We had a warm welcome with a welcome pack including milk in the fridge for tea! The house was immaculate and bright with brilliant views. Our children loved the spaciousness and the trains that passed. The surrounding walks were just right and the added plus of the sauna warmed us up after our long walks in the snow. There was a small shop within walking distance that had all the basics as well as movie rentals. We don't often go to the same place twice, but this one is tempting!
A warm and comfortable place to rest after a day on the hills. Good views from the windows of the ever changing colours of the Gairngorms and surrounding hills. A nice welcome package and a friendly greeting from the owner on our arrival. The wood burning stove was excellent on the few cold nights that we did have.
Great to be back, this is a very homely property. I'd love to come back next year.
The views from the Signal Box were superb - we spent hours just staring out of the window at the constantly changing panorama. Very relaxing! Excellent location with lots of beautiful places to visit nearby.
Comfortable accommodation in a unique location.
Everything about the Signal Box met or exceeded our expectations, it was warm, comfortable, had everything we needed, and offered great views.
The Signal Box was a unique and exceptional holiday property. Greeted on arrival with a huge chocolate cake! The mountains and views from the upstairs lounge were superb. The trains coming and going were interesting to watch especially. We will be returning!
A truly 5 star property. Extremely well-equipped and very comfortable. The welcome chocolate cake, milk and flowers were a very thoughtful touch. We hope to return to the Signal Box! Thank you.
This is our second stay at the Signal Box so that in itself speaks volumes. The location is perfect, the scenery is just breathtaking and the convenience of being directly outside the local train station so convenient.
It is a very individual property in an excellent location. The welcome chocolate cake was yummy! Loved the decor in the property and it was the best equipped property we have stayed in.
Everything, even in a week of fairly awful weather we had a great time and the Signal Box contributed to that immensely, great views, cosy and warm, everything you need at hand. Excellent!
The wonderful panoramic view out of the first floor windows. Ideal for wildlife or train spotting. Well equipped property, everything worked.
Excellent holiday home, very high standard of furnishing & equipment. Views & location were ideal. Weather was an added bonus.
It was different, beautiful location, very clean, very welcoming with a "welcome" cake and flowers. Waving to the trains became fun! I would recommend it to anyone.
The location and the comfortable accommodation. This was a return visit and our expectations were fully met. The accommodation suits well for couple and a teenage daughter. We all did a fair share of walking, followed by relaxing back at base watching the trains, reading, warming ourselves by the wood burning stove, fiddle playing or indeed revising for school exams!
Everything about the property was first class and the surroundings beautiful.
Real novelty being upstairs in the "lounge" watching the trains come and go, we enjoyed the house and the setting very much. We loved the attention to detail in the Signal Box, binoculars for us to enjoy the stunning scenery, the chocolate cake and flowers were a nice touch. Great location and fab to have a sauna to enjoy after a hard days skiing or quad biking!
Very well built and very well thought out holiday home. The upside down idea is brilliant and the sauna was just what was needed after a big walk with the dogs in the snow.
An amazing place. An excellent property, probably the best self-catering property I have ever stayed in.
The property was excellent, which made our holiday so relaxing. It was in the perfect location. Couldn't fault it at all. Highly recommend this property to all.
The Signal Box was possibly the best accommodation we've stayed in. The views from the living area were amazing, the standard of accommodation was fantastic, and small touches like a chocolate cake and flowers on arrival made it a lovely holiday. The location was convenient for walking, and day trips by train. Gave us a chance to really relax and unwind. We've already recommended this property to friends and family.
The standard of the property was excellent. The owner was friendly and helpful, she made us feel very welcome. The location of The Signal Box was fantastic. It was great fun watching the trains from the cottage window and the proximity to a good many walks was wonderful. We plan to come back.
My wife and I had a lovely relaxing holiday. The views were outstanding. The Signal Box was like a Tardis and we enjoyed waving at passengers on the train as if we were the railway children!!!! To be welcomed by a tasty chocolate cake was the icing on the cake!!! The owners have got a five star winner in our eyes and we can't wait to go back.
First time to Scotland & Newtonmore. The Signal Box was excellent & above expectations. Very clean & comfortable. A warm welcome from the owner. The views overlooking the Cairngorms where amazing. Lovely sunsets & plenty of wildlife to watch. Great walks in & around Newtonmore. Hope to come again, have recommended to friends already.
The Signal Box is a very nice place to stay, even so near the trains, a good place for a holiday. The house was very complete. We felt very welcome, the owner was very kind. We really had a nice time. The best house we ever rented!
Second time here, best accommodation and view in Newtonmore. We will be back.
The property was really wonderful and nice personal touches such as local tourist leaflets. It was even better than the photographs and had an amazing view.
This cottage was amazing. We loved everything about it and the sauna gave that added little bit of luxury. We would definitely like to return here and would highly recommend it to others.
Light airy and warm accomodation, clean with all the comforts of home. Scenery and weather gorgeous.
The Signal Box is an excellent base for a holiday in the Cairngorms. Well appointed, centrally located and close to many visitor attractions. Worth a mention are the local shops, especially George Gow, the buthcher, in Kingussie.
We received a very warm welcome from Mrs.Isla Russell with a very nice welcome pack. The cottage was really delightful and the sauna was an extra bonus. The property was very central for walking and also for golf lovers. The view to the mountains was breathtaking and I would say that it was a most enjoyable holiday.
We had a thoroughly good time is excellent accommodation which was warm, clean and comfortable with excellent scenery. Newtonmoore is a good base and well served for food and drink as well as walking, driving and train trips.
Excellent service from the owner of the property. All weathers catered for i.e jigsaws and games. Very warm and cosy without the log burner! Centrally located for Ben Nevis, Inverness, Cairngorms, Loch Ness etc. All conveniences within the village i.e petrol, shop. Fantastic views - highly recommended. Haggis, highly recommended at Glen Hotel 10mins walk away.
Its location was perfect for getting to beautiful locations for hill walking and general sightseeing. Being close to the railway station meant that you could utilise the train service in the area which was ideal. The weather was as we hoped, cold and snowing which made it even more magical. We expected the property to be quite cold considering its location but it was beautifully cosy and we had a lovely chocolate cake for us on arrival, how sweet of the owner. If you want a lovely peaceful holiday in stunning countryside then we couldn't recommend this property enough.
Excellent facilities for a relaxing holiday, great views and plenty of wildlife to watch.
The accommodation is in an excellent location 5 - 10 minutes walk from centre of Newtonmore and Cairngorms not far away. Plenty of walking, at all levels. Excellent. This is the best accommodation we have stayed in by far and have already recommended it to friends who are interested. We are planning to go back in the very near future. Did not want to leave!
The signal box is very well equipped and in excellent condition.
The best holiday cottage we've ever visited and we've visited lots - The owner is an excellent hostess!
We had an excellent week in the Signal Box in June. It was very well fitted out. It was very clean and tidy. The view from the very large window is superb, and we twice saw a quail on the station platform. The local hotel had real ale, so we had no problems at all.
We love that area of Scotland anyway but the Signal Box made it so much more special. Perfect location (my husband's a rail enthusiast) and perfect accommodation. Full marks to the people who help maintain the high standard of the property.
Very good central area for walking.
Perfect central spot for sightseeing.
From the moment of booking the holiday everything went perfectly. Everything was prepared for our arrival, not to mention the chocolate cake. I would fully recommend this to anyone who is wanting a no worries hassle free week away from it all. I will definitely consider returning and most definitely recommend this to family and friends.
The accommodation was to an extremely high standard, loved the layout and furnishings and loved the double shower and sauna. The view of the hills is lovely. The place was spotless and the cake the owners left delicious. The accommodation was well situated to walk into the village and plenty of walks nearby to walk the dog. We will definitely be back again.
This was the best accomodation we have stayed in. The owners could not have been any friendlier, we had a cake baked for our arrival. The house was clean, bright and very well maintained. The surrounding area is beautiful with lots of things to do nearby. We had a very relaxing week and recharged our batteries. We cannot recommend this cottage highly enough.
A beautiful and cosy place - a real home from home with fabulous scenery. We loved it.
A return visit, and just as good as the first time. A very high standard throughout, and the owner seems only too willing to assist in any way possible.
We loved the fact that you could step out of your door, onto the station, and catch a train!
One of the best places we have stayed in. Very individual property in an excellent position for touring the Highlands. We can recommend this property highly for a quirky place to stay!
The Signal Box was a wonderful place to stay, it was well equipped, well decorated, extremely clean, and very comfortable. A great base for touring the surrounding areas, there was such a lot to see and do we will definitely be back!
The Signal Box itself was a lovely house, both original in its design and very comfortable. The attention to detail was wonderful with little touches that made the stay very pleasant. We really enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it very highly.
The location of the Signal Box was perfect; quiet, peaceful and relaxing. A lovely outlook from the 'upstairs' living area across the valley; fields with animals & birds and the golf course.
Property far outweighed our expectations. Position and standard of property excellent.
The property was very pleasant and comfortable. There was fresh flowers in the property. We had been left milk orange juice and a lovely chocolate cake. I would return to this property again and have already recommended it to relatives.
Despite being beside a working railway line, it was undoubtedly the peace and quiet. The views from the Signal Box were outstanding. It was the perfect retreat.
The accommodation was spot on and the views surrounding were brilliant, would recommend a visit.
