Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.
We have just returned from a long weekend here (4 adults, 2 3 year olds). We have stayed in a lot of cottages but never one as well equipped as this one! Great location for beaches, would recommend a trip to Newton by the Sea one of the best beaches we’ve visited. It’s just off the A1 so great for Holy Island, Seahouses etc. Nice walk up to the wind turbines and the kids loved seeing the neighbouring calves and alpacas. Will definitely visit again, thanks for an enjoyable stay!
A great cottage, a real home from home.
I loved the location of Shepherds Nook, especially for visiting our favourite areas of Northumberland and being so central. My favourite part of the property was the fireplace and wood burning stove, particularly on cold winter nights!
We were very pleased with the cottage, it was very nicely decorated, comfortable and homely. The additional extras were appreciated. I would definitely recommend it and we will look to go back in the Spring or Summer.
Wonderful cottage, we had a lovely time. Very comfortable and well equipped. Very good location near A1 quick to get to many locations.
Stunning! Perfect location to see all the sites we had 3 generations in one house.
The cottage was well equipped with a generous supply of wood for the wood burning stove.
The cottage was in a perfect location for access to visiting all of Northumberland. It was like home from home and every detail had been thought of to make it a pleasant holiday.
Very comfortable and clean cottage. Home from home. The owner has thought of just about everything to make this a base for your holiday. Perfectly located off the A1 to access Northumberland. Although very close to the A1 the road noise didn't bother us. I would highly recommend this cottage. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to the area.
A beautiful and spacious cottage, very convenient for sightseeing. Tastefully furnished and very clean.
It was the perfect place to spend a relaxing few days. The cottage was very well situated, ideal for visiting pretty much all of Northumberland. Little welcome gifts of wine and chocolates plus a supply of tea, coffee, sugar and milk in the fridge were appreciated. The owner text us on our arrival and at the end of our visit, she was very friendly and helpful.
Good quality fixtures and fittings.
Lovely cottage, comfortable and cosy. Would recommend.
The owner met us at the cottage and was very friendly and helpful - the cottage was lovely and well equipped and spacious. The location is very close to several places of interest, including Craster with its lovely beach and Dunstonburgh castle. Alnwick is a short drive away and we spent an exhilarating day at Go ape which was not very far away. The owner had left wine and flowers and firewood for us on arrival which was a lovely welcoming touch.
The owners of the cottage made us very welcome with several kind touches including wine, chocolates and fresh flowers. Had even put milk in the fridge and laid the fire ready for lighting. The cottage is only a short drive to the coast and there are many lovely walks close by.
This cottage is a must to visit. Nothing seems to have been too much trouble to make our visit pleasant. A lovely welcome gift, even a telephone call to ask if we had arrived safely. Essentials such as tea, coffee, milk, torches and even doggie bags were included. The cleanliness of the property was very good. Being close to the A1 (no road noise), enabled easy access to the lovely coastline and inland to Coldstream, Wooler and many more places. I would recommend this property.
The owners of this cottage have clearly gone to great lengths to ensure that guests have a comfortable stay and feel welcomed. When we arrived there was milk in the fridge, tea and coffee and other essentials such as dishwasher tablets were provided. As a lovely surprise the owners had also left a thoughtful gift to greet us on our arrival. The location of the cottage is superb for exploring the beautiful coastline and picturesque nearby Alnwick. The overall cleanliness and quality of the cottage was superb and we cannot wait to come back.
The house was clean, cosy and comfy and featured a large lounge.
The cottage was a cosy and comfortable base and really clean. The area was stunning and we can't wait to go back.
Shepherds Nook is a fabulously appointed, warm, cosy, well equipped and beautifully maintained cottage. It was totally conducive with relaxation and felt like a home from home right away.
Cosy and large living/dining area with wood burner; a welcome from the cold outside. Plenty of space for our little boy to play indoors. Beautiful countryside and sandy beaches.
The cottage was stunning and had clearly been very well thought out - everything was to a high standard and the place was immaculate when we arrived. It was tasteful and welcoming and very well equipped.
I loved the central location. It had a lovely log fire, the bedrooms were very comfortable and clean. Nice relaxing atmosphere. Decor, games etc were all good.
The cottage was all we could wish for, very comfortable and homely. Everything about the holiday was really good, even the weather. It is a great area for touring around, good beaches, castles, access to the Farne Islands, Hadrian's Wall and Kielder Forest etc..
Comfortable, tasteful decor. Easy access to many places of interest.
Really great cottage with everything we could have wished for. The three children loved 'chatting' to the nearby animals every day and the cottage had all the facilities we needed. Excellent extra touches like games and books. Perfect location for everything we wanted to see - just wish we could have stayed longer - next time!
We had a lovely stay at this cottage. It was well equipped, very well presented, warm and cosy. The surrounding countryside and beaches are stunning. The only slight thing we were not aware of was the proximity to the A!. Although that was great for travelling around the area, it was rather noisy from about 6am onwards with all the commuter and work traffic. It did not spoil our holiday but we thought we ought to have been made aware of this. We would definitely book with Sykes again though if this is the standard of their cottages.
Excellent holiday cottage in a great spot just off the A1 - very convenient for exploring Northumberlands' fabulous coast. Cottage was well furnished and decorated and it made for a really comfortable stay.
Excellent cottage in great location. Very close to good road link but still quiet. Children loved all the animals in surrounding fields. Lots to see and do in the area - wish we had longer but we hope to return very soon. Nice to have games and books provided for a range of ages. DVD provided but too busy to use it!
The location of the cottage was excellent for visiting local attractions and beaches. The cottage is lovely and welcoming and well laid out. The facilities were very good overall and the cottage is cosy and characterful - we were very comfortable there. We would definitely stay at Shepherd's Nook again.
The cottage and area were lovely.
Well located for travelling around the region. Very nicely furnished property.
It's a lovely cottage in a great location - the kids really enjoyed sleeping in the bunk beds!
A very nice location with lots to do, especially for the children.
Very conveniently placed for exploring the area and it was a very comfortable cottage.
It was lovely to stay in a welcoming and comfortable cottage that had everything we need. Anyone with small children needs everything to hand if their holiday is to be relaxing - we couldn't have asked for more. Northumberland is beautiful and stimulating for all of the family whatever the age. Looking forward to returning already.
Style of the interior was very welcoming. Cottage was exceptionally well equipped. Little touches like bowl of sweets on arrival, toys and books made it very cosy and friendly. Kids loved the horses and cats at the cottage. Plenty to do in area and beautiful location.
The cottage was up to the very high standard of all our Sykes holidays. We would choose this cottage again, if and when, we return to Northumbria.
The location was excellent. It was lovely returning to a cosy cottage!
The cottage was warm and comfortable and stylishly decorated. Well placed for exploring the stunning coastline. We were very happy with the standard of the accommodation.
Fantastic cottage I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone, this was our first time staying in a cottage and we will definitely be doing it again. Beautiful area just not enough time to see everything in just a weekend.
The cottage was in easy reach of the coast and tourist spots.
Accommodation was excellent. It was clean, spacious and well furnished.
Excellent location for touring in Alnwick area. Accommodation was best and cleanest we've ever had. I rang the owner to thank them on our return. There were so many extras and decor was incredibly tastefully done!
Well placed for access to the coast and Farne Islands, also to surrounding towns. The house had been tastefully renovated and was extremely clean.
