Reviews

We stayed in the arches for two nights and what can I say, what a beautiful place this is, if I could give higher than a 5 I honestly would. The location is perfect and the views are absolutely stunning. We did the daffodil walk whilst here which was lovely and we popped into the church too in church houses which was lovely. The cottage is very homely and perfect for the 5 of us that were staying. Plenty of room for us all, I had the master bedroom which has the 4 poster bed and I loved it. Waking up the views has got to be my favourite part. There wasn’t any toilet roll on arrival but this was sorted straight away. Lovely other touches were wine and biscuits. Thank you for a lovely weekend in every way!!! We would definitely come back for sure.

What a great place to stay. Beautifully presented with a stunning backdrop. The house is a good size, with plenty of room in the bedrooms and is well equipped. We wanted a peaceful setting and this was perfect. The adjoining property had guests, but we did not hear them at all. I cannot rate The Arches highly enough and hope to be back next year.

Lovely 3 bedroom house next to a farm, within walking distance to a good pub (Feversham Arms). Open fire, fully equipped kitchen and a bottle of wine and teapot and biscuits waiting for us when we arrived! Firewood included. Liked the touch of leaving the torches for us!

Our 6th visit and we love this place as much as ever! Cannot fault the cottage and all it provides. If you want peace, beautiful views and a taste of the good life, then this is the place to be. Andy,Julie and Lee are the delightful owners who welcome you into their world and let you become part of their working sheep farm.Always lots to see going on and very willing to explain countrylife to us townies!! Just a short walk away is the local Feversham Arms run by the lovely Rachel and her husband,Richard. Warm, welcoming pub with great home cooked food, good beer and very dog friendly! Also worth a visit is The Lion pub, just above the cottage at Blakey Ridge, especially at Christmas. You will not find a more beautifully decorated pub and cannot fail to feel festive when you explore all the rooms. Great atmosphere, fantastic food and loads of great beers to try! Would recommend the Arches and the larger attached cottage,The Old Carthouse, to anyone who simply wants to get away from it all and enjoy a peaceful, relaxed time with family and friends and dogs - magical!! We will be back!!

The location was amazing. The cottage was amazing too, stylish, cosy, lovely decor and kept immaculately. Fantastic farming family and the views were incredible! Probably would not have explored the Yorkshire Moors if hadn't stayed in such a rural location. Every turn was breathtaking and the local pubs were fantastic. The local Farndale show on bank holiday Monday was a wonderful unexpected pleasure.

Clean, comfortable, dog friendly cottage with stunning scenery right outside the door. It is on a working farm, lots to see, peaceful location, good pubs nearby and the local people are friendly and welcoming. There was live music on the Friday at the Band room at Low Mill. We had the perfect Christmas experience. Deep snow meant it was tricky getting down the valley to The Arches but, once there, it was an ideal location to enjoy the white-out scenery, sledging in front of the cottage and various walks, including a particularly rewarding trek up the valley side to the Lion inn on Blakey Moor. The Arches itself is a fine converted carthouse, well equipped and warm. The farming family who own it are very friendly and helpful.

Rated by Peter E reviewed on 3rd February 2010

The beautiful surroundings of this remote cottage, especially in the snow. The friendly assistance of the farmer and his family.

Rated by Mr Erlam reviewed on 4th January 2010

Booking and arrival at the cottage was easy and hassle free. The cottage was clean, tidy and well maintained. The warm, cosy atmosphere inside was very welcoming after a cool windy day out and about. Despite being located a fair way up Farndale, the cottage was easy to get to from the moor top road. Many walks were had along the lane, up onto the moor tops and also in neighbouring Rosedale on the old railway line. The local pubs looked inviting, but we didn't get round to trying them out.

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 18th December 2009

We found this remote cottage up Farndale to be equipped in every way for our needs. Our family consisted of grandparents, parents and two youngsters aged 11 and 8. Out and about we visited York, Scarborough and Whitby and particularly enjoyed the Folk Museum at nearby Hutton-le-Hole. The autumn colours were stunning. Our son-in-law was all over the steep lanes and tracks on his mountain back while the children enjoyed the farm. We even got a log fire going in the evening. Would recommend either of the spacious cottages on this site to anybody.
