Reviews

We have just returned home from a week at the Old Forge. Location was fantastic but accommodation was very average compared to other properties we have stayed in and not great value for money. Parking space was totally unusable and we had to pay for parking for the whole week. Kitchen was dark, freezing cold and smelled very badly of damp so couldn't be used as a living space. The bed was very small and uncomfortable and as a result we had very little restful sleep all week. The central heating didn't work so was cold at night time. We use cottages in this country a lot and often booked via Sykes and rarely have negative comments about any of them but we found this house extremely overpriced for the standard of accommodation on offer.

A beautiful cottage at the top of Haworth. Very close to all amenities and quiet. The details about the cottage were good, giving us all the relevant information we needed for a good stay. When we arrived the cottage was warm and welcoming. Lovely and clean with lots of equipment in the kitchen. The owners were very helpful when we spoke to them about our stay. We have already recommended the cottage to our friends and will definitely be back. A great place to stay.

My wife and I stayed in Haworth in the summer 2015 and enjoyed the place so much we booked a cottage last August as well. The Old Forge is not just any cottage but a real treat. It is actually an old Forge and in the lounge on the first floor you can see photo's of it as it was many years ago and the staff that worked there. The Kitchen on the ground floor is very large and has everything you could need. The lounge is lovely and comfy with Two large sofas and a woodburner (which we didn't need in August, but we are returning very soon in April so will enjoy that too. The lounge has a little passage/doorway leading upstairs to the bedroom and bathroom, as you leave the lounge you can open a huge old door which leads to a lovely sun terrace with tables and chairs. Upstairs a nice size bed awaits you after a long day in the Dales, and the bathroom is to die for with a huge bath and a double shower cubicle. the latter cam in so handy for me last year as I had a shoulder operation in May. The location couldn't be better with loads of pubs within a minute or two. The Black Bull was great as was the Fleece inn and my particular favourite The Old White Lion which is about 20 paces from the front door!! Couple this with your very own parking space and you have a real Gem of a place.

A lovely cottage, with great facilities all that needed for a good break, close to all facilities and great pubs.

The Old Forge is in an excellent location in the centre of Haworth, 5 stars (with a bathroom to die for). Could not fault anything and we were so happy we've already booked again for next year!

We loved the location, and the car parking space in front of the property was an added bonus. We couldn't believe how peaceful and quiet the cottage was considering how close it is to all that Haworth has to offer; restaurants and bars and the starting point for some beautiful walks and at the top of the hill. Fabulous.

Location was amazing, tucked away right in the centre of Haworth. Cosy, comfortable cottage on 3 floors with a great woodburner and a luxurious bathroom.

Location was excellent, standard of property was very good and Howarth is a beautiful village. Overall a fantastic holiday!

What can we say apart from, it was simply perfect for us. We loved our stay here and would certainly look to going back again at some point in the future. Superb for us as we love walking and there is no shortage of footpaths, country pubs and beautiful scenery all close at hand, not to mention three pubs within a few meters of the property itself.

The Old Forge is a beautiful cottage in a very convenient location for the gorgeous village of Haworth, yet still generally very quiet at night. The furnishings and fittings were very tasteful and the bathroom was amazing - had a huge bath and huge shower! A very comfortable and enjoyable stay - hoping to return.

Rated by Mrs Gorringe reviewed on 15th July 2015

We loved The Old Forge, it is well situated at the top end of main street. The cobbled street had lovely little shops and the views around this village are amazing. The Bronte museum was worth a visit. We also did the trip on the steam train. It was a lovely stay, quiet at night as everyone disappears once shops close. We did enjoy a lovely quiz night at the Old Hall Inn at the bottom of main street, great selection of beers according to hubby and also the Fleece half way up the hill great meal.

The cottage is maintained to a very high standard, it is very good value for money and centrally located for all local attractions.

Rated by Mrs Williams reviewed on 9th May 2015

We stayed at the Old Forge for one week at the beginning of May. The cottage is absolutely gorgeous and maintained to a high standard with luxury bed linen and towels. Even though we had a few rainy days during our stay, it wasn't an issue as the cottage is so relaxing and homely and is situated literally within one minute walk of three local pubs ! One of our faviurites was The Black Bull where the landlord and staff were very friendly. I would also recommend the meals at The Fleece located further down the main street as they were absolutely delicious and reasonably priced.

Beautiful property, a real "home from home" in the heart of Bronte country. An excellent place to escape to for the weekend.

Delightful, cosy cottage. In an excellent location at the top of the high street, didn't need to use the car for the week. Great place to spend Christmas.

A high quality property in an excellent location.

The cottage was perfect for us - a couple in our twenties who wanted to enjoy the 'simple' things. We both live and work in the city, so escaping to this gem was perfect. We were able to cook lovely dinners in the big kitchen, fall asleep in front of the fire and enjoy the spectacular bathroom. A great retreat.

My boyfriend and I had a super break in The Old Forge. The cottage, set over 3 floors is very spacious and is decorated to a very high standard. The bath is fantastic, and the log fire provided a perfect atmosphere for the much needed afternoon naps after walking around the moors! We loved the cottage and wanted to stay longer, a perfect re-treat to 'get away from it all'!

Haworth is a location where time has stood still. It is full of places to eat and independent shops. The cottage was decorated beautifully and was warm and cosy. It was well equipped and comfortable. In an excellent location for Leeds, York and just enjoying Haworth and its Bronte heritage.

Rated by Mrs Holmes reviewed on 5th October 2014

Great cottage in a good location, excellent furnishings and good standard of decoration this cottage had everything you could need, it was just like being in your own home. I could easily live in this cottage and that is something I have never said about a holiday rental property before.

My wife and I honeymooned in The Dales three years ago so a return to Yorkshire was always something we wanted to do. The Old Forge in Haworth is perfectly located for a Christmas stay as it has all the convenience of the town with its restaurants, cafes and unusual shops, not to mention an array of welcoming pubs! We walked on the moors, followed in the footsteps of The Railway Children and had a fabulous Christmas lunch in The Old Haworth Hall. The house itself is warm, characterful and has modern conveniences of wi-fi and a good mobile signal. Sitting in the lounge with the woodburner roaring and enjoying a glass of mulled wine was a real treat. We loved the house and the location!

Rated by DeePeeTee reviewed on 1st January 2014

The Old Forge was very welcoming, we felt relaxed from the moment we got there. The location was perfect, as you are tucked away, but right in the middle of the Old Village. The house was perfectly furnished and equipped. It is such a lovely house! It was a wonderful holiday, and we will be going back, and recommending to our family and friends.

We had the absolute pleasure in staying at the Old Forge duringthe Haworth 1940s Weekend and week after. What a wonderful house, village and event - I would strongly recommend all 3. The Forge was beautifully presented, very luxurious bathroom and tasteful soft furnighsings etc. The size of all the rooms were impressive and well decorated . Although the outside space was at the front and overlooked by the neighbours, it was a pretty square of houses and didn't deter us from sitting outside in the evening enjoying the area. The parking space out front was very convenient. The Forge is situated at the top of the village close to various pubs & restaurants and has easy connections to local tourist attractions. I would highly recommend The Forge and look forward to staying there again in the future.

Rated by Mr Mellor reviewed on 20th June 2013

This cottage was brilliant, we stayed for my birthday and our wedding anniversary. We got snowed in but the cottage was warm and very cosy. The bathroom in this place was out of this world (warning if your under 5'6" you may need someone in the bath with you as it's so big. We did manage to get out for my birthday and visited the local pub that was just a matter of yards away(no noise). The area is just beautiful and there are plenty of shops to visit. The only thing I would do next time is take a weeks food shopping with us if we went in winter as it was very difficult to get to the spar with the snow and ice. I would recommend this cottage to anyone and will be going again. The only thing I found was space for food storage in the kitchen that was a bit lacking and as the kitchen is so big it would not take much to add another unit or even a couple of shelves. The owners whom we spoke to are very friendly and there to help. I would say if your going to visit Yorkshire and the Bronte country you could not go wrong with this cottage, its very close to all amenities and right in the centre of the village.

The Cottage definitely exceeded our expectations (and they had been raised by the photographs available online) and the whole process of booking and arriving for our mini break was a smooth as silk. I did contact the owner before our stay (very nice and helpful) and was advised of the key arrangements and all the information and directions for the Cottage were very helpful. The Old Forge sits at the top of the hill of lovely cobbled streets of Haworth, therefore everything you require (restaurants, pubs, coffee shops and plenty of quaint little shops) are literally on your doorstep. However because The Old Forge is tucked away, these busy tourist attractions don’t impinge on your stay. Also you have the benefit of the parking space literally outside the kitchen door therefore making arriving and departing simple. The Cottage is a real gem. Fully renovated to a very high standard and split over 3 floors. You enter through the kitchen downstairs which is very well equipped and then you find the lounge on the second level (up the beautiful wooden staircase). The lounge area again is very tastefully decorated with a large flat screen telly and two comfortable sofas to relax into. The bedroom and that bathroom on the top floor are I’m sure, a particular attraction for a romantic weekend away as it is a luxury bathroom with a huge tub but actually the whole cottage was a delight. We stayed for three nights and were lucky with the weather and both felt we would be very happy to return and use the cottage to explore the Dales and some of the other attractions nearby. I would definitely recommend The Old Forge for a couple or family (you would need to use the sofa bed for the kids) but the property is really not suitable for somebody who has difficulty with stairs.

Loved getting away from it all and the fact this cottage is in the centre of the village made our stay enjoyable as we were snowed in most of the week but the nearest pub was only 20 yards away. Would recommend this cottage to anyone and we do hope to return here again. The cottage was very well presented must be one of the best we have stayed in.

Rated by Mrs Shaw reviewed on 15th February 2013
