Bram Stoker was inspired by the atmospheric town to write Dracula. Whitby is also famous for Jet, a beautiful gemstone and the Victorian Jet Works will shed insight into the jet industry. With its safe beaches and access to the North York Moors, Whitby is a tremendous base for a family holiday.

Very comfortable stay cottage was very clean well presented and ample room for the eight of us. Location is very central to North Yorkshire tourist attractions. Would stay there again.

We had a wonderful week in this cottage. It felt like home the minute we arrived, and we were all sad to leave. The location is handy for the entire area, with Whitby on the doorstep, Robin Hoods Bay, Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes just a short trip away, and a variety of inland destinations under an hour away (Nunnington Hall a must). Sainsbury's near by made self catering easy. The place was quiet but not remote or isolated. The cottage was great value for money, and we would certainly return.

Rated by Mrs Mathieson reviewed on 13th January 2016

We had a great time in Whitby. The holiday cottage is really spacious for up to 8 people and having 2 showers was a bonus as there were 7 of us. The children loved the garden area and the views from the cottage were stunning. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend to anyone going to Whitby on holiday.

Rated by Mr Bury reviewed on 2nd August 2015

Whalebone Cottage is a lovely cottage; very suitable for our requirements and Whitby is simply a delightful place to have a holiday; it is the jewel of the East Coast. This was our second stay at Whalebone Cottage and we have already booked for 2016.

Rated by Mrs Edwards reviewed on 17th June 2015

It was a very nice cottage and well equipped for the amount of people. The windows in the bedroom were great to look at the clear night sky and good information was given for walks and local taxis.

Rated by Mrs Cotton reviewed on 3rd March 2015

It was very spacious and spotless clean. Great location, quiet but close to the towns and local amenities.

Thoroughly enjoyed our time at this cottage the owners were so friendly and just a stroll into town and our friends stayed in the adjoining cottage which was as perfect as ours only smaller. will definitely book it again.

The cottage was in an ideal spot for visiting nearby villages and towns. The Cottage was large but cosy and had everything we could need. Very friendly owners completed a pretty perfect holiday. Couldn't have asked for more.

Rated by Ms Leigh reviewed on 30th June 2014

Was absolutely a home from home, large sitting room kitchen had everything we needed and the bedrooms were ample. All in all, a brilliant place to stay and only a 20 minute walk into Whitby; would totally recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a quiet place to stay and close to all the charm of Whitby itself. Plus, the owners are lovely and friendly.

Whalebone cottage is a charming large cottage, with 4 large bedrooms it sleeps 8 people comfortably. It is a very clean and tidy cottage. The sitting room is of generous size and there is a well stocked kitchen with dining area, this cottage also boasts 2 well sized bathrooms...one which just has a shower in. The outside garden is gated off for your own garden and parking for 2 cars. The views from the house are breathtaking with views across the Esk valley. You can also watch the comings and goings of the camping and caravan site which the cottage owners own...great for people watching!! The cottage is situated on a working farm which farms sheep...the kids love watching the sheep coming into the farm yard to be weighed. The cottage is about a mile away from whitby harbour...and if you walk there it's down hill all the way...just hop in a taxi for the return uphill journey...the taxi is very reasonable back there. The owners are very very friendly and extremely helpful...they didn't even mind us sitting in their garden when the sun left our garden. We have just returned to the cottage for our 3rd holiday and it won't be our last. The cottage is a great base for all the tourist attractions like Robinhoods bay, staithes and Scarborough. I would defiantly recommend this cottage. Thank you for a great holiday.

We stayed at Whalebone Cottage on the first weekend in May to celebrate a couple of birthdays within the group and we will definately be going back. The cottage itself has a great homely feeling with amazing views and we were only a couple of minutes drive from Whitby. The owner is a lovely women who looked after us well providing information on local taxis, restaurants etc, even her dog made friends with ours! The only negative I have with our weekend is that it ended too soon but we will definately be staying there again and I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone.

The area was wonderful and the accommodation was great.

Rated by Mr Lee reviewed on 15th April 2012

The cottage was pleasant; it was in walking distance to the shops, pub, main town, on a bus route! There was plenty of areas to go walking - our main interest in the holiday. We really enjoyed the walk on the cinder pathway, well worth the effort.

Rated by Mr Darcy reviewed on 18th September 2011

Whalebone Cottage was a lovely base for exploring Whitby and the surrounding areas. The cottage was clean and comfortable. The only drawback was the slightly small dining area when a group of us wanted to cook/eat together. Otherwise, a perfect base for a lovely few days.

Very quiet nice location. Cottage was well equipped, very homely and there was a nice welcome from the owners.

Rated by Mrs Thornton reviewed on 8th November 2010

The welcome from the owner and the privacy afforded even though they were close at hand. From our arrival onwards the holiday was excellent, the atmosphere of the farm was very warm and welcoming. The setting is beautiful and it is amazingly quiet when you consider the proximity of the camp site and the road. I would both recommend Whalebone Cottage and book again.

We enjoyed every part of our holiday and the cottage was better than we had ever expected. The owners were very helpful and nice, they let the children go and see all the farm animals, which they loved. The owners left us wine and biscuits for our arrival as a hello greeting. We would definitely return. The view was gorgeous.

Whalebone Cottage is a lovely property with a gated drive. Was excellent for the dogs with a small grass area with the cottage. But access to larger field for quick stroll, lots of longer walks available. There is an excellent pub just up the road. The standard of the property is excellent and the location has excellent views, overall would recommend to anyone.

Whalebone cottage was an excellant base for a holiday in the North Yorkshire Moors and coast. The cottage was excellent, very clean, well decorated and furnished. Good views over the moors and Whitby Abbey. The owner made us feel most welcome and was extremely helpful.

Rated by Ms Cross reviewed on 28th August 2007

Fantastic location with scenic views but yet only two minutes drive into the centre of Whitby. Lots of idyllic places to visit nearby.

Rated by Mr & Mrs Barnett reviewed on 11th August 2007

A good location, close enough to enjoy Whitby for a night out & a short drive to either the north Yorks Forest or other coastal resorts.

Rated by Ms Andrews reviewed on 23rd May 2007

The standard of the accommodation did not disappoint us and we all had a great break. The farm, despite being on a main road and a working sheep farm in the middle of lambing, was tranquil and made for a very pleasant break. The area is much better out of season when there are fewer people around. The owners was very pleasant and we were not aware of everyone else's presence when we were at the farm. She was very welcoming to the children. There was nothing we did not like about our break - even the weather was excellent for February!

Rated by Mrs Atherton reviewed on 26th February 2007

Excellent property - it was like home from home. I would recommend this cottage to anyone and will be visiting again.

Rated by Miss Clarke reviewed on 6th October 2006

The house was accesible to beautiful areas, both inland and coast. We were able to sit outside and drink in the beauty of the countryside amidst a working farm environment. Cycle tracks started just outside our door, which were well used all week. The dogs (two) were able to run outside in the garden with the grandchildren and we knew they would all be safe. The added bonus of the two kittens from the farmhouse taking up residence with us for the week just made the holiday. As you can see we were very pleased with our stay at Whalebone cottage.

Rated by Mrs Rowe reviewed on 12th September 2006

The surrounding landscape was beautiful and very peaceful. Everyone enjoyed the use of the shared trampoline!

Rated by Mrs Szuster reviewed on 6th August 2006

The cottage was great and we all had an excellent time. The children loved staying on a farm and particularly liked the trampoline and the kittens! Whitby, according to the children, was excellent because it has beach huts, yummy ice cream, a lift to the beach that was like a Tardis and rocks on the beach that you could climb on. The best holiday ever!

Rated by Ms Cross reviewed on 10th July 2006

The cottage was excellent from all aspects - accommodation, location and hospitality. We had a party of 12 with ages varying from 14-80. There was something for everyone...
