The Byre has been tastefully converted to offer accommodation for 2 people; a classic, romantic retreat. Exposed beams and a four-poster bed help it retain much of its original charm and there is also a small garden from which you can enjoy the stunning scenery or indulge in a spot of al fresco dining. There is parking for up to 2 cars, although the best way to get the most from this area is on foot.

A stone-built, semi-detached barn conversion on a working farm, in a peaceful location at the foot of the Long Mynd Hills near the village of Wentnor, 12 miles from Church Stretton. Attractively furnished in a traditional style, the property is brimming with character, including exposed beams, wall timbers and a four poster bed. There is also a pretty patio garden with spectacular views of the Long Mynd. A few hundred yards away, the Adstone Walk on the Shropshire Way is a walker's paradise while the famous Stiperstones and Wenlock Edge are nearby. The amenities of Church Stretton, medieval Ludlow and Bishop's Castle are within easy reach, as are numerous attractions including the Ironbridge museums and many National Trust properties.
The village of Wentnor lies on a ridge to the west of the Long Mynd, with good views in all directions. It is an attractive village, situated on a location that can be traced back to Saxon times. The church of St. Michael and All Angels is at one end of theridge, and there are spectacular views to be had from there, looking towards the west from the churchyard. Carved into an outside wall of the church is an inverted 'face'. Wetnor is also situated close to many other historic Shropshire attractions. The Shropshire Hills are littered with Roman and Iron Age settlements, perfect destinations for those who want to mix a bit of history with a scenic walk. Church Stretton is only a few miles away and offers a beautiful example of a modern medieval village. With outdoor pursuits, such as fishing and mountain-biking, in abundance, Wentnor is a haven for those looking to get away from it all.

A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
Wow!! What a fantastic place, currently sitting in the lounge of this property writing the review, couldn't wait to get home to do it!! Don't want to go home!! This place is great. Very high standard of decor with every attention to detail being made. As others have stated the pictures quite simply don't do it justice. We found the bed very comfy, neither too hard or soft. Location is so pretty and quiet. We have had the most relaxing weekend before the usual annual onslaught of Christmas!! VERY HIGHLY recommend this place to EVERYONE. Will be returning for a full week next summer. LOVED IT. Thank you.
A peaceful and quiet location and beautiful views from the cottage.
The Byre is a very quiet and peaceful out of the way cottage. We received a lovely, warm welcome from the owner.
The Byre is in the most peaceful, remote and tranquil setting. The location for us was simply all that we needed with remarkable views. The Byre, in our estimation, exceeded all our expectations in all respects.
Great walking straight from the door. Friendly and knowledgeable owner. Great weather too. Lots of varied bird life including many Red Kites.
The Byre is a delightful cottage, ideally situated for walking direct from the doorstep.
The location was perfect with stunning views front and back, plenty of parking and an owner who was really helpful. Didn't want to leave and will definitely re-book!
Stunning location with plenty of walks from the door! Very spacious accommodation and high standard of cleanliness. Superb location. Our second visit and we'll return.
The Cottage was set in a beautiful, tranquil location with excellent views across the countryside and surrounding hills.
The holiday cottage was lovely and had everything we needed to be able to enjoy our holiday. The pictures didn't do it justice; The Byre is located in the most amazing setting and we loved the experience of waking up and hearing nothing but the sheep and the birds. I would recommend this cottage to anyone but particularly to those who enjoy peace and quiet and hiking which was from the doorstep. We could happily have stayed a second week and there would still have been plenty to do. The owner goes the extra mile and the property was spotless. We appreciated the books, tv, radio and board games being provided. We would certainly stay there again.
We really enjoyed our one week stay at the Byre. It is ideal for those who love peace and quiet and enjoy hiking. The cottage is so well equipped with everything you could possibly need and spotlessly clean. We really appreciated the fresh flowers, chocolate, wine, milk, tea and coffee that were there when we arrived. I don't believe the pictures on the website do this cottage justice. The setting and the views are just stunning. We loved waking up and hearing nothing but the birds and the sheep. We love our hiking and found plenty of walks to keep us busy for a week. We could happily have stayed for a second week and would not hesitate in recommending this cottage to anyone. If there is just one slight criticism is that we found the bed too small and the mattress too hard.
As with our first visit, the property was perfect in every way. Set in wonderful scenery this cottage is a perfect place to relax and enjoy.
The Cottage was superb in every aspect with absolutely gorgeous views. The accommodation was very spacious and clean and warm. The owner was a friendly and genial host and nothing too much trouble if you needed anything. We had a wonderful relaxing holiday. I would really recommend this property.
The cottage was in the perfect position for a walking holiday. Everything one could need was provided, in fact the welcome was the best we've experienced. It was close to National Trust properties for rainy days and there was a pub serving good food within reasonable walking distance.
The cottage was fabulous with every possible accessory that we required. The owner was very nice and the little touches were great. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely like to return.
The cottage was ideal, well kept and well appointed. In an absolutely delightful setting in the Shropshire Hills. The owner was a lovely man and so helpful. The walks from the cottage offer endless possibilities with the Shropshire Way and the Jack Mytton Way on your doorstep.
This cottage and it's location could not have been better. The cottage was absolutely delightful in every way and so homely. It was especially nice to arrive in a warm cottage. I'm sure we will return.
The property is remote, so it is quiet and there is plenty of room. It is comfortable and well equipped. Surrounding countryside is beautiful, and full of interesting wildlife.
We loved everything about this cottage the owner had gone to great lengths to make our stay memorable and it certainly was. This is the best cottage we have stayed in.
We have stayed in many holiday cottages and this is up with the best. From our friendly greeting from the owner, to the perfect location and the beautiful cottage itself. We could not fault this holiday at all.
We just loved The Byre. We loved the fact that the owner had put so much thought into providing us with such a wonderful stay. The Byre is very large for 2 people and very comfortable.
A very well appointed and beautiful cottage in the middle of glorious scenery.
The property was very well appointed with everything we could have wanted. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and the country walks on the doorstep. The owner had done everything possible to make it a perfect holiday.
This cottage is provided with everything you could possibly want, and then some. We were greeted with fresh flowers, chocolates, wine, tea, sugar, milk, coffee and many other essentials to get us started. It was spotlessly clean, comfortable and spacious. Set in a lovely garden on a farm, it was very peaceful. If it is the city life you are after this may not be the place for you but we couldn't fault it.
This cottage was the best we have stayed in. It was quiet and out in the sticks. The owner was a superb host and everything was catered for even the special additions. It's great for walk, or rides and there is plenty to see and do. There's a good pub in the village which serves excellent food and very friendly. The comments book says it all. We will be going back.
This beautiful cottage was just the tonic we needed. Everything you could need is there and more as you arrive to a bottle of wine, flowers, chocolates and bottled water. The water is from a bore hole but we had no problems at all with this. It is much larger than it looks on the web site and of a very high standard. The views are wonderful. Only very small thing, and this is just a personal comment, the mattress is far to soft. The Crown pub in Wentnor is excellent. Food is lovely and all the staff and locals made us feel very welcome.
We stayed for a week in this lovely holiday home which was very well equipped with everything you might need. It was quite spacious for a one bedroom property and the photos do not do it justice. As I was recovering from a recent illness it was the perfect place to relax. The views were fantastic from every window. The owner was particularly friendly and left some very welcome goodies to start the week.
We have visited The Byre 3 times, and plan to do so again, I think that says it all really. It's location is especially great, and the friendliness of the owner makes this place special, it certainly ticks all the boxes for us.
The views from all aspects were brilliant. The owner was helpful and from our view excellent.
The parking was excellent and the patio was nice and private. Every window had a spectacular view of the surrounding countryside. We look forward to visiting The Byre again, hopefully next year.
We loved our stay at The Byre.
Last week we had the pleasure of staying at the Byre in Adstone, near Wentnor. When we arrived, there was a warm welcome for us including complimentary chocolates, a bottle of wine, tea, coffee, milk and a bowl of grapes. Having looked around the cottage we could see we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The front porch afforded a stunning view of the Long Mynd with gliders and hang gliders soaring above the valley and to the rear of the cottage there is a patio area for eating outside or having a BBQ. The cottage has its own water supply from a bore hole - it tasted fine! The local pub serves very good food and beer but we found it preferable to drive there, it taking about 20 minutes to walk along the narrow lane. But this was also the beauty of the place, its remoteness and rural setting. We found it an ideal base for walking in the Shropshire hills. We would not hesitate to return if holidaying in Shropshire again.
The views from all aspects were brilliant. the owner was helpful and from our view excellent
The cottage was set in a beautiful, peaceful and very quiet location which we loved. It was extremely spacious and very tastefully decorated.
Great accommodation, very quiet, the views were outstanding. I will recommend this cottage to friends, family, and anyone asking for a recommendation for a holiday cottage.
The place was great. The owner can be proud of his cottage. We had a great holiday!
Lovely accommodation in superb setting. Delightful and helpful owner.
A very good cottage with a friendly owner. The position is superb; ideal for walks, straight from the door.
In close proximity to great walking and views from the terrace.
Very comfortable accommodation in an idyllic setting, with a most welcoming and helpful host.
Absolutely fabulous. The property is beautiful with spectacular views and a total get away. We loved it, secluded but within walking distance of three pubs and the local shop.
The property was exactly as described and the owner was friendly and welcoming. The location is excellent and the rooms are large for such a compact property. The nearby walks are very enjoyable.
Lovely thoughtfully equipped cottage, a place for retreat in an interesting and beautiful area. Very welcoming
Excellent property - clean, well equipped and the best welcome pack we have ever had - fresh flowers as well. A big thank you to the owner for an amazingly well maintained property.
It was a pleasure to meet and chat with the owner. He could not have been more helpful or friendly. The Byre was so comfortable we didn't want to leave, in fact we would buy it if we could. The location is perfect for walking, either on the Shropshire Way, up the Long Mynd, or simply down to the excellent village pub.
Peaceful, tranquil and relaxing. A superb location with magnificent countryside. The owner was very hospitable.
An absolutely wonderful property set in glorious surroundings with 'jaw dropping' views everywhere. A truly wonderful experience, probably our best to date.
The remoteness of the property meant there was lots of peace and quiet.
Spacious, quiet property, ideal for a couple. Impressed that there was both a bath and shower. Usually the smaller properties do not have a bath, which is a great shame after a long day out on the hills! Location was fantastic if you like walking. Straight out onto the Shopshire way and half an hour to the top of the Long Mynd.
Great hill scenery and excellent walking from this really high quality cottage. Virtually everything one might need was provided and quite a few extras. The host does a superb job with this cottage. We will return!
A perfect cottage in a perfect place.
We loved the Byre. It was spacious and comfortable with a great kitchen. The walks straight from the door were great and we also enjoyed walking to the pub. It was well located for many of Shropshire's sights and extremely peaceful.
The location was stunning and remote. The welcome was excellent and the condition of the property was very good. One of the best cottage experiences we've had!
Excellent cottage and interesting area in which to holiday.
This property rates as the best we have enjoyed in over 40 years of regular cottage holidays. The owner should be highly commended for his excellent service to his clients.
A great place to unwind 'far from the madding crowds'! Plenty of Buzzards to be seen - soaring high. The Crown serves delicious home cooked pies and real ales!
We loved the wonderful location, the attention to detail in the contents of the cottage, the extras like flowers, wine, chocolates and bottled water in the fridge.
We liked the location of the Byre - very rural, peaceful but close to some good pubs for meals etc.
This cottage was by far the best holiday rental we have experienced. The location, looking up at The Long Mynd, was perfect, the walking excellent and the local pub great! We shall hope to return for more holidays in The Byre.
A very quiet location and we could do plenty of walks from the cottage, without using the car.
A wonderful 1st experience - thank you! Walks on the doorstep, far away from the sound of any traffic, outstanding views. Superbly equipped; ideal for a retreat from it all. Was blown away by the welcome and owners kindness. Was very happy here!
Beautiful scenery, very comfortable and spacious cottage. Thoughtful welcome pack. Quiet roads and lots of attractions nearby.
As new visitors to Shropshire we were delighted with the location of the cottage and the excellent walking either directly from the property or within a very short drive. The Long Mynd is accessed by footpaths directly from the cottage. We shall definitely visit the area again and if possible, book The Byre, it is a perfect place!
The cottage is excellent and very spacious for 2 people. The location is perfect. This area is essentially walking country; not many tourist attractions. Local pub in Wintnor is good for food, ale and service.
The cottage was in a beautiful setting with panoramic views and plenty of walks literally directly from the front door. The cottage was extremely well equipped, even down to a foot spa for those weary feet! In addition, the owner, had provided jigsaws, board games and books for those rainy moments. There were plenty of local maps and brochures of places of interest too. The owner was very friendly and extremely helpful and had even thought to provide a welcome pack for our arrival.
Perfect place for a chill out holiday. On the edge of the Shropshire Way, close to the pub and shop, friendly locals. What more can you want?
Being able to walk up onto the Long Mynd directly from the property without having to drive. Fantastic views and countryside on the doorstep. A friendly welcome and warm property - very comfortable.
Excellent welcome pack. Very clean and well furnished house. Great position with fabulous views. Good places to visit and quiet roads. A very chilled out week! Can't think of anything we didn't like.
The location was beautiful and peaceful. The barn conversion was tastefully done with good decor and plenty of space. The welcome gifts were an added bonus. We hope to go again in the future.
A bit off the beaten track but well worth the effort to get there. Right next to the The Shropshire Way so with immediate access to some stunning walks and scenery. A compact holiday house that was comfortable and well equipped with everything needed for a holiday break.
Ideally situated for a walking holiday. Local people friendly and helpful.
The property was in a beautiful location with a lovely countryside. Very friendly locals and the owner was very helpful.
The owner provided a warm welcome and excellent facility. Beautiful walks, views and local interest.
Beautiful setting - peace and tranquility! Lovely cottage - felt happy and relaxed straight away. Warm welcome - flowers, chocolates and wine. Walks from the door! Lots of places to visit.
This is our second visit to this cottage and once again, we found it extremely comfortable. It has fabulous views and to see them in both spring and autumn was wonderful. The welcome pack was again waiting for us which is a really nice touch.
Peace, tranquility, beautiful gardens; perfect place to recharge the batteries.
We particularly like the spectacular walks on the door step which go in any direction, and the quiet, serene position.
Lovely location, quiet, remote. The owner had provided lots of extras including maps and walks in the local area.
The whole package was excellent, from the location to the little added touches, e.g. wine. flowers etc. The owner was very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. It is a lovely property.
The owner of the property made great effort with his preparation and was also pleasant, he left us a bottle of wine and a dish of cookies. He was concerned that all was ok.
Helpful and considerate owner. Lovely location.
Peaceful location and the warm welcome - the flowers, wine and the peppermint creams. A lovely property. Wish we could have stayed longer! It was exactly as described and so remote with wonderful views from all aspects.
Exceptional location with fantastic views. The cottage was extremely comfy and the standard of cleanliness was excellent. The welcome flowers, fruit, wine, etc., made it feel just that bit special.
The cottage was superb. There were outstanding views from the property. Although we were surrounded by the wonderful Shropshire countryside we were still within a couple of miles of a village shop and a very welcoming pub.
Stunning views and great walks from the property.
Stunning views and friendliness of owner.
Very thoughtful of the owners to leave such a generous welcome pack.
Friendly welcome - bottle of wine and fruit bowl on table. Superb views. Peace and quiet away from the rush of life.
Enjoyed the location and comfort and cleanliness, also walking from the cottage in beautiful surroundings. We will return.
Could not fault the property. An ideal location for walkers. A credit to the owner.
This property is very well presented with every effort being made by the owner to make your stay enjoyable.
A lovely cottage in a beautiful area. One of the best we have had.
Really 'away from it all' and a wonderful area for walking. The welcoming touches on arrival were second to none and really set the tone for the holiday.
The overall standard and welcome pack. The countryside and excellent weather.
The accommodation was excellent and the local information on site was very helpful.
Great consideration was shown by the owner by the flowers and other items given to us on our arrival. This cottage was the best we have ever had, and we have been renting cottages for over 25 years We hope to go back .
Home from home accommodation
Excellent cottage in a beautiful, quiet countryside. We received a generous welcome.
The standard of the cottage was brilliant and far exceeded our expectations. We would definitely consider returning.
The position of the cottage and the views were wonderful. Attention to detail in the property was very good.
Best cottage I have stayed in. Deserves praise !
"The Byre" was ideal for us...we could not have chosen better if we had had several months to research either the property or the area! It was blissfully peaceful, with wonderful walking from the door. We had a lot of rain but it failed to dampen our spirits! We had a lovely week. The owner, gave us a warm welcome (including a bottle of wine) and was very helpful. Excellent! We will use Sykes Cottages again!
The cottage is excellent in presentation, clearly a lot of thought went into the decor/furnishings, and the location was perfect for us, we did lovely walks almost every day, without having to drive far. We could sit outside for lunch with the view at the back towards the Long Mynd - idyllic!
Best holiday ever. Views from near the cottage are wonderful.
Views, location, comfortable cottage, facilities, weather!
We loved the isolated location which was ideal for our Golden Wedding anniversary. Within reach of the beautiful walking area of the Long Mynd and the towns of Ludlow and Welshpool and several pretty little villages. We were touched by the thoughtful, welcoming gifts and the seasonal decorations of a lit Christmas tree, candle table-arragements and Christmas stockings.
Everything. Fabulous accomodation, well thought out and very comfortable. Plus a beautiful location.
Fantastic property - the "extras" were a lovely bonus and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Peaceful and romantic bedroom. Picturesque surroundings. See one of the few remaining one-handed clocks at St. John the Baptist Church in nearby Bishops Castle.
Beautiful heather-covered hills, lovely cottage, wonderful location. Lots to do and see nearby (castles, ancient monuments, pretty towns and villages). Where did the week go?
Great accommodation with everything we could possibly need and positioned in a wonderful location.
The welcoming extras like the wine, fruit and coffee on arrival made a wonderful start to a fabulous holiday.I shall certainly be spreading the word!
Presentation of the property was excellent and the extras provided by the owner added to the property. Would definitely recommend.
This property ranks very highly amongst all those we have ever stayed in. Good central location for getting to see Shropshire.
The location of the cottage was absolutely beautiful and was matched by the quality of the cottage. We had a very restful stay.
The cottage decoration and presentation was perfect. The four poster bed was so comfortable. It is set in idyllic surroundings, quiet and peaceful with easy access to wonderful walking countryside.
