Location Details

The delightful market town of Hawes is the highest settlement in Wensleydale and home to the delicious Wensleydale cheese. The town is also famous for rope making; a skill passed down through the generations and a fascination for many of the visitors that come to the town. A regular market is held on a Tuesday and Hawes has many excellent shops and eateries in its midst. The beautiful limestone countryside surrounding the town provides a huge variety of walks and other outdoor pursuits, and for sightseeing opportunities the area is unsurpassed with the spectacular Hardraw Force and the Aysgarth falls just two of the natural wonders to be seen. Hawes is a delightful town and makes a superb base for a holiday in this magnificent area.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Stayed October half term week - owner very thorough regarding cleaning and COVID. Cottage is very cosy with excellent amenities, lovely coal fires on an evening playing cards and board games was a welcome change from watching endless drivel on TV. Nice walk from the back of the cottage up to Simonstone and to Hardraw Beck. Asygarth and Hardraw were in full flow due the amount of rain which resulted in both being very dramatic. NIce walk into Hawes on a couple of occasions and used "The Chippie" which was excellent. Lovely place to explore Wensleydale

We loved staying at The Homestead because as soon as we walked through the front door we felt relaxed and at home. The location is superb and we love walking across the fields to do our shopping in Hawes. It's a fantastic base from which to walk and cycle. The countryside is stunning and we have already planned our return visit next year with the 'Three Peaks Challenge' firmly in mind and a cycle up to 'The Buttertubs'. The owners had made The Homestead a very welcoming place for us to be.

The house was beautifully furnished, very clean and was perfect for our requirements. There was everything we needed there plus extra touches. The situation is beautiful and we enjoyed being next to the pub as we were a mixed family group with my two younger brothers who spent a lot of time there! Many thanks to the owners. We hope to return and would certainly recommend the cottage.

This was out second time at the Homestead. It is a very homely cottage and we liked the décor. It was a great location to visit Hawes and surrounding area with good food at pub in Hardraw and live music; family friendly too! It was the best holiday we have had a for a while and so relaxing! We love the lounge in the cottage; it was well equipped with games and we love the character of the building and the views! Would definitely recommend!

We have had a lovely week away at Homestead. The cottage is so homely and very well equipped. Nothing was missing. We loved the fires and being winter, they warmed the house really well. The beds were so comfy we had several late lie ins! We travelled as a family which included our 85 year old mother who was so comfortable we could barely get her to leave the cottage. There are good walks right from the cottage door, what more could anyone want from a holiday?

The Homestead was absolutely, without a shadow of doubt, a fantastic well loved home from home. Everything you could have wanted was available, the views were awesome and the pub next door just rounded everything off.

The location of the cottage was good. The cosy kitchen was lovely and the beds and bed linen were good. I would happily book this cottage again and would be happy to recommend it. There was nothing we needed that wasn't provided.

Stayed here for a romantic Valentine's weekend and loved every minute of the time there. Bottle of bubbly left by the owners to welcome us to their wonderful cottage. Open fires in both lounge and dining rooms, very comfortable beds, plenty of hot water and a great hub from which to explore. Extremely well furnished with all home comforts. Hoping to return for a longer stay soon.

Myself, husband, daughter and son in law spent a week in this beautiful warm cosy cottage with bonus of an open fire in the living room. Ideal location for peace and quiet with the local Inn only a minute away. You can have a lovely scenic walk into Hawes through beautiful surrounding countryside. If you want somewhere with everything then look no further (magical). We will definitely go back.

The owners had thought of everything, there was not anything we needed that was not there. The Rayburn and open fire made the holiday extra special. The property was well prepared, had great bedding and towels available to use and were all good quality.

A beautiful house in a superb location. Large rooms, all nicely furnished and selflessly clean. The rear paddock leads straight up to Shunner Fell, wonderful. We spent a week there and were fortunate with the weather. House is well equipped and the Rayburn is a joy on a chilly morning. No criticisms at all!

A delightful cottage, very spacious and comfortable. We loved the Rayburn which was constantly warming the kitchen, also the wonderful view of the fells and sheep through the kitchen window. Comfortable beds and furniture, we felt very at home. Would highly recommend!

My family and I spent the New Year staying in this fabulous cottage. Coal fires, range cookers, fabulous scenery and next door to a pub! We had an excellent time and but for work I would have already booked for this year.

Loved the open fire. Bedrooms were really spacious, and the property was in very good condition, and very comfortable. Loved the Aga in the kitchen. Good proximity to the pub.

The Rayburn was fantastic, we have never had one in a property before, and it was lovely. Open fires are always a bonus particularly on an autumn evening. Homestead was a homely and extremely comfortable cosy house, ideally situated for walking the Yorkshire Dales. Parking spaces directly outside the front door was ideal.

We had a wonderful stay at The Homestead cottage; very homely, cosy and warm. The furnishings were bright, fresh and clean throughout. Beds a dream. We have stayed at a number of cottages over the years, but this by far is one of the best. We cannot recommend it enough, you would enjoy your stay here.

When we entered the cottage it was just magnificent. We felt so much at home and particularly enjoyed the fireplace. We would highly recommend this property.

Rated by Mr Van Diem reviewed on 21st May 2013

The location of the property was really good with a number of good walking routes available from the front door. Having the pub close by was great if you did not want to cook as the food was substantial and very tasty. The internal layout was well arranged and decoration of the property was to a high standard, especially the master bedroom. We are a family of 6 and we all had a great time and felt very comfortable in the cottage as soon as we entered it. The kids were never bored while indoors and because it snowed while we were there they had a great time sledding down the hill in the paddock at the back of the cottage. The owner was very helpful and easy to deal with during all of our correspondence. All in all a great February short break.
