Virginia Cottage, Acton Burnell

Virginia Cottage was originally a barn set on a working farm. It has been converted to provide accommodation for groups of up to 4 people. The conversion has been undertaken with great care and the cottage retains much of its original character through features such as a wood-burning stove in the lounge. The decoration is modern, yet comforting and the property backs onto a private patio from where you can absorb the rolling scenery or enjoy a spot of summertime dining. Walks are available through the farm and the cottage is located close to other walking trails. There is parking for up to 2 cars, although the local shops are 2 minutes away on foot and the local pub is 4 miles away.

A superb conversion of a former barn, Virginia Cottage is situated on a working farm on the edge of Acton Burnell in this peaceful and undiscovered area of Shropshire. Detached and built of traditional local brick, the cottage offers accommodation of a very high standard being tastefully decorated in a contemporary yet cosy style. It is light and airy throughout and there are French doors opening onto two private patio areas where guests can relax with a glass of wine on warm summer evenings. The owners live at the farm and personally welcome visitors. A perfect retreat to 'get away from it all' and explore the hidden delights of Shropshire!

The pretty little village of Acton Burnell is set in rolling farmland a few miles from Shrewsbury and takes its name from Robert Burnell, famous for building the lovely castle and church here in the 13th Century. Robert Burnell, who built the castle, also built Acton's Church of St Mary, which is still in use and remains one of the most complete 13th century village churches in Britain. Acton is well-placed to explore further Shropshire attractions, such as Much Wenlock, Church Stretton, Attingham Park and Shropshire's capital: Shrewsbury. Reviews

We expected it to be good after reading the reviews and were not disappointed. Penney and Henry are so friendly and helpful. Cottage was spotlessly clean and cosy with a welcoming box of goodies. If you want a really good meal out, go to The Horseshoes at Dorrington. You won't find a better meal anywhere and the owner and other staff are very welcoming. Highly recommend this cottage for a break.

We have just stayed at Vaginia Cottage for a week, a can't put into words how amazing this place this! Very well looked after, the cottage is immaculate, spacious and well kitted out! Penny and Henry the owners made us feel very welcome, we were told if we needed anything all we had to do was ask. I was sad to leave the cottage on Friday i loved it that much. My 2 girls aged 4 and 8 and myself and my wife have fallen in love with this gorgeous cottage, and we cant wait to return. So penny and Henry thank you once again, and we hoped you liked your flowers and thank you card. See you all next year! Best wishes Richard and Kimberley Lord

A comfortable and well equipped cottage with all the information needed to make the most of our stay. It was clear that the owners gave a lot of thought to what guests would need, both within the cottage and in terms of information to quickly and easily benefit from all there is on offer in this lovely part of the country.

Rated by Mr Tench reviewed on 15th December 2012

We had an awesome weeks rest in Virginia Cottage, the owners where fantastic people, I only wish we could have stayed longer. The cottage was beautifully appointed with everything you could want for a perfect break. I come from a farming background so the peace and quite of this farm forming a part of the village reminded me of my childhood from Cross Farm in Eastry, Kent. I would wholeheartedly recommend this cottage to anyone with or without animals.

Virginia Cottage is beautifully decorated and maintained. It has everything anyone could wish for or need on holiday and the surrounding countryside was just superb. The village of Acton Burnell is small and very pretty. The cottage owners were both very friendly and helpful but did not intrude, allowing us a fabulous break - with someone on hand to answer any queries - mainly about the local surroundings.

Rated by Mr Barker reviewed on 27th June 2007

The cottage was immaculate, and the best accommodation that we have stayed in. Sometimes, if a property accepts dogs, you do not expect the incredibly high standard which greeted us at Virginia. The owners should be extremely proud of their conversion. A 5* property at an affordable price. Would definitely look to book again in the not too distant future. Cannot praise the cottage, or the warm friendly welcome by the owners, enough.
