This property is a Grade II listed building, brimming with character. Much of its original charm has been retained through exposed beams and wall-timbers, wooden floors and a galleried bedroom. There is a double bedroom beautifully decorated to create a peaceful haven at the end of the day and the airy, open plan living area has a very 'French Country' feel. A walled front garden offers ample opportunity for al fresco dining in the summer, while full central heating and a flame-effect electric fire keep the cold at bay in the winter months.

A delightful, stone-built Grade II listed conversion of an old cow byre, in the centre of the village of Wrelton, 3 miles from Pickering. This charming property exudes character, with exposed timbers, wooden floors and a first floor living room leading up to a pretty galleried bedroom. Cow Byre Cottage is furnished and decorated to an exceptionally high standard, with a french country feel about it. There is excellent walking from the doorstep through the beautiful surrounding countryside, while other attractions such as the historic city of York, the market town of Helmsley, the steam railway in Pickering and all the trappings of the east coast resorts are within easy reach. A great base for a holiday. Note: This property is next to Ref.1844 and booked together they can accommodate 7 people.
The village of Wrelton boasts a fascinating past. After the last Ice Age, when this entire area was submerged by floodwater, and the village was a simple settlement clinging to the edge of the lake of Pickering. Much later, during the Roman Occupation, Wrelton occupied a key position on the route between Malton and Wade's Causeway on Stape Moor, and during the Georgian era, coaches would have stopped here on their way to Scarborough and Whitby. Today, it is a delightful mish-mash of stone cottages, modern houses and dry-stone walls. Although there are no shops in Wrelton, the village is served by the Buck Inn, which is famous for its good food and a fine selection of real ales. Nearby attractions include the market town of Malton, Pickering Castle, Castle Howard and the historic City of York, which has attractions for visitors of all ages.
Central heating with electric fire in sitting room. Electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge, washer/dryer, dishwasher, digital TV, DVD/CD player, WiFi. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Off road parking for 1 car. Secure storage available for bikes. Enclosed walled front courtyard with garden furniture. Sorry, no pets or smoking. Shop 2 miles, pub 3 mins walk. Note: There are steep stairs and an upstairs gallery (with railings) that are unsuitable for small children or the less able.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.
The cottage is set in a secluded courtyard with a privet patio area. The accommodation is very well appointed and equipped throughout with more than enough space for a couple. The owners were very welcoming and helpful and made us feel at home from the outset. Great base from which to explore the coast (Scarborough, Whitby, Robin Hoods bay etc), the moors for walking and the North Yorks Abbeys (Rievaulx, Byland etc).Loads to see and do in the area. Highly recommended and hope to stay again in the future.
The cottage was extremely well equipped; everything was simple to use, and it was all very comfortable.
We stayed here for a week and appreciated the solidity and privacy of the cottage; the off-road parking; high standard of equipment (shower, cooker, TV) that was easy to use; a comfortable bed and cleanliness of the cottage. A good base from which to visit North Yorkshire, including a regular bus service to nearby market towns. The owners were friendly, live nearby but not intrusive.
The cottage was excellent in a beautiful quiet village, perfect for relaxing. It had all the amenities we required and was close enough to visit York (by car) or walk into Pickering. We had stayed in this cottage once before and were very happy to return.
The layout of the Cottage with the lounge area on the first floor made the most of the afternoon and evening sun. We certainly recommend this Cottage for a peaceful stay.
The cottage was lovely, warm and cosy and had everything you could want to make an excellent holiday. It was ideally situated to explore the North Yorkshire Moors and quaint villages. Will definitely return.
Very pleased with the cottage, had everything we required, was in a lovely quiet location, within easy reach of Pickering. Secure parking area, and lovely small, private courtyard garden. Would highly recommend.
The cottage is a very well presented holiday let. It is set in a lovely village and was very quiet and peaceful. There were instructions for all the amenities and everything worked. The property was very, very clean and tastefully decorated. The outside area was neat and tidy and made a nice place to enjoy the autumn sunshine. I don't think I have stayed in a nicer place. Faultless!
A very quirky old building that had been sensitively modernised as a great holiday rental. Quiet and private. A good location for exploring local area.
A great base for exploring the local area. Very comfortable, clean and private.
Perfect base for exploring the area, with a number of interesting walks and sites very nearby. The cottage itself was perfect for a couple or someone holidaying alone, was very clean and well equipped. It was also very private, despite being right behind the owner's house. The owners themselves were welcoming and very helpful. We would definitely consider staying here again.
We liked everything about Cow Byre Cottage. The secure bike storage was first class and we would have to go a long way to beat it. The shower was also out of this world with plenty of hot water.
A lovely Cottage situated in good position for exploring the moors and coast.
The cottage was very cosy, a proper home from home. It was very well situated for exploring the surrounding area. It was our first visit to Yorkshire & we enjoyed it.
A very pleasant cottage; well laid out, nicely furnished and had everything you need. It was very clean, have stayed in many cottages all over England but I think this is one of the cleanest I have stayed in. Good location, very friendly welcome plus owners left milk, biscuits and fruit for your arrival. Nice touch.
Host showed us the accomodation and made themselves available to accomodate any further needs we might have. Clean and had everything we required. Location had everything we were looking for within walking distance or a short drive away. The unabtrusive freindly hosts, the immediate area we were in and the more than adequate cottage fof the money payed. There was nothing we disliked.
Delightful cottage, very modern and very clean. Slightly bigger than expected. Close to Pickering (nearest shops). Nice, friendly pub in village of Wrelton itself (children ok). Superb holiday. Ideal central base for touring Yorkshire Moors.
Good location. Nice quality property.
A lovely small 'quirky' cottage, with everything you could want. Welcoming but unobtrusive hosts; good location for visiting all the attractions in North/East Yorkshire. Local pub serves good food with a warm welcome. The visiting/moblile fish and chip van in the village is worth a visit.
Lovely cottage, well appointed. Ideal location for us.
Lovely area, plenty to see and do.
A lovely warm, quiet place in a great location and near a fantastic pub.
Fantastic accommodation, well located, great weekend.
This was our second time in this cottage and was just as great as the first. It is still looking new and is very well kept. The owners are not too far away if there were any problems and were very friendly but left us to enjoy our holiday.
It was great place to relax and rewind. The cottage was immaculate and very cosy. It was very nice to have the tea tray with milk and chocolate biscuits.
Cow Byre Cottage was the perfect place to stay. We loved this property. The welcome tray was a lovely touch and the bed was sooooo comfortable. Central enough location to visit many parts of Yorkshire, and great distance to travel to the Sea Side. LOVED this property I am sure we will stay here again.
We loved the Yorkshire countryside, and the cottage was the best we've ever stayed in in any area in the last 20 years.
Hosts were very welcoming and helpful. The cottage was well equipped and imaginatively set out. The location was very convenient for walking and for visits to the coast. The local pub was a few minutes walk away and served excellent food and beer and a very warm welcome.
The cottage was very cosy and comfortable, just what we had hoped for as November can be a very damp and chilly month. The weather was very kind to us but it was great knowing we were returning to a warm base where every care had been taken to make us feel at home. We particularly liked the cow theme of Cow Byre Cottage! The village is very well placed to take advantage of all the North York Moors has to offer and we were able to walk every day.
The unique attention to authentic, quality, byre details. Its convenient location for all aspects of a holiday. It was different!
It was well equipped and very cosy. The owners were very welcoming and friendly.
Great hosts, location and cottage.
The cottage was quiet and well equipped. Ideal location for touring the area.
Loved the cottage. Much bigger than expected. Very quiet location. Superb location. We mainly visited the jurassic coastline and the steam railway. Great weather was the icing on the cake.
Our third stay at Cow Byre cottage. A lovely cottage tucked away from the hustle and bustle, in a lovely peaceful village. Central for exploring a beautiful part of Yorkshire.
The property was lovely and in a great location.
The cottage was excellent and in a good location for local amenities and places to visit.
Cottage larger than expected. Very quiet location. Perfect for touring the area. Well equipped. Helpful owners. 10/10
Ideally situated for many attractions, whilst located in a quiet village.
Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. We could come and go as we pleased, no stress.Knowing the cottage, we were very happy to return, and would do so again with no qualms whatsoever.
The cottage was really lovely and we could not have asked for better. The welcome we got from the owners was second to none. Location for sight seeing was just right. Plenty of walks and old castle's etc to visit, right up our street. Would recommend this highly.
We had a very enjoyable stay and charming and helpful hosts. Very good, well equipped kitchen, bathroom and laundry. Stairs were steep but led up to a comfortable bedroom and lounge room. Good windows for fresh air. Gayle was very helpful with where to go. Great location for the moors, dales, coast and York.
We were made very welcome by the owners who were very helpful about the local area. There was milk in the fridge, a tray with biscuits for tea and fruit for us. We have never stayed anywhere so well equipped. Your directions were excellent. The local area has so much to offer - we will certainly return. Thank you.
Excellently appointed holiday get away for 2 people - we shall return
Excellent cottage, good location for touring. Brilliant food at 'Buck Inn'.
A very clean and tidy property in just the right spot to explore the surrounding North Yorkshire Moors - highly recommendable.
The pictures of the cottage do not do it justice. The cottage was very central to attractions.
Great location. We cycled into Pickering and drove a lot. Easy reach of beaches. Local stores provided all we needed.
Nice little place, highly recommended. We had a lovely time.
The cottage was a wonderful barn conversion and perfect for a 'get away' before the birth of our child. The conversion was situated in the small village of Wrelton, but was ideal for visiting the surrounding areas of Pickering and the coast. Overall, I highly reccommend this cottage for couples seeking either a romantic break or a truly relaxing stay. Everything you could possibly require was provided, alongwith a few extra added 'touches'.
A beautiful cottage in a beautiful part of the country. Close to the North Yorkshire Moors and the Railway, less than 30 miles from the coast and York/Harrogate whilst being surrounded by hundreds of beautiful villages!
This cottage was an ideal bolt-hole; tucked in Wrelton village off the main route into Pickering, with an excellent village pub.The landlord/lady were very personable and served us a very tasty, tho' inexpensive evening meal. We found some beautiful routes to walk locally, and also took the steam train to walk further afield. We came across a filming session of "Heartbeat"! which was entirely unexpected. Another joy was dining at The SWAN in Pickering coupled with a very long browse in the antique shop in the town. Our hosts were a family next door in the main farm house and were very sensitive to our needs.Helpful and readily available when needed and absent otherwise. All of this, and then to crown it all the weather for the entire week was truly springlike.Sunshine every day so that we were able to appreciate England at its' very finest. The simple joy of seeing the first snowdrops, and the wonderful vistas of Yorkshire pleased us immensely. We would love to revisit as part of our plan to spend more time in England, now that we have seen so many other places in Europe. This property is a high standard, I would recommend it to anyone.
The cottage was quiet and peaceful and of high standard, close to pub which served excellent food. Bus link from village good so we didn't have to drive every day. Great relaxing holiday.

Ideally suited for exploring the Dales, Moors and coastline.
Very good base for visiting area. Very comfortable well thought out cottage in a peaceful location. Very warm welcome and nice touch with the surprise welcome pack.
The owners were lovely people and very helpful. Would go again. It was a perfect centre to so many attractions.
The property is ideally situated for many attractions and places of interest and beauty. The property had been sympathetically modernised and was user friendly. The owners were friendly and helpful.
The cottage is great. There are plenty of walks from the village. The local Buck Inn is friendly and could not fault this holiday. Thank you.
The owners have thought of nearly every comfort, and we honestly couldn't find a fault with the amenities. This cottage stayed lovely and warm throughout the day and night.
Excellent holiday! True to brochure description. Well recommended, will visit again. Everything available, well thought out.
The owners were excellent and provided us with a warm and friendly welcome. The weather was extremely wet, but the cottage more than made up for that. We will definitely be going back. Thank you.
The cottage was so clean and welcoming, also very peaceful and quiet. Owners very nice and friendly.
A beautiful cottage in secluded setting. Very picturesque village convenient for many attractions.
Lovely cottage although small it feels spacious. Good central location for coast, moors and York. Very friendly owners.
Great location, fabulous cottage!
The property is well-equipped for all your needs. We were made to feel very welcome. It was an excellent base to tour the North Yorkshire Moors from.
A super welcome pack greeted us on arrival. The accomodation provided everything we needed and was very comfortable.
The accommodation was delightful and spotlessly clean and our hosts were very helpful.
Highly recommend the cottage Very good lay out. Very private. Lots of places to visit in area.
I organised our holiday at the very last minute and yet all our needs were met immediately. Highly recommended for a cosy break for 2. Many thanks to our hosts for a lovely place to stay on our winter break.
We enjoyed staying at this property very much. It is excellent accommodation for a couple. The owners gave us a very warm welcome. The property is in a very good location, and we have already recommended it to friends and family.
A fantastic property in a lovely location. The perfect place to unwind for the week.
Excellent location to explore North Yorkshire.
Beautifully renovated, warm and cosy. Very private...
A brilliant location to explore that part of the world...
A peaceful hideaway for two. The area has everything you could want from history to beaches. Excellent food in local pub, 2 min away. Best of all no mobile phone signal!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the North York Moors and at Cow Byre Cottage. The fittings are modern and clean and we quickly settled in to the accommodation. The location is also favourable - we were able to cover a wide area in a short space of time.
The owners were lovely people. For a relaxing holiday for a couple, it would be hard to find anywhere better.
Very attractive courtyard. A lovely cottage - very friendly/helpful owner. A really nice conversion set in an attractive village, good local walks, great scenery.
Cottage was located in an excellent position for exploring Yorkshire. A warm welcome from the owner and a high standard of accommodation.
The cottage was luxurious, cosy and surprisingly spacious making it a really special place to celebrate our anniversary. The location is excellent being hidden away in a small village but with great access to places like Helmsley and Pickering. We’d really recommend it, thought it was great value for money compared to a hotel and the owner gave us a friendly welcome!
Fantastic property, very high quality finish. Local pub- The Buck Inn- is two minutes walk and gives a friendly welcome and good home cooked food.
The owners of Cow Byre had thought of everything and were very welcoming. Everything was very clean and tidy. A lovely experience.
Excellent accommodation, very well equipped and very good location. We enjoyed our stay very much, highly recommended.
All facilities and aspects of accommodation were first class. Exceeded our expectations, a real haven in a beautiful part of the world.
The cottage was perfect and the surroundings beautiful. We had a wonderful time in Yorkshire and being able to come home every night to this gorgeous cottage made it even better!
Very high standard, superb new wet room. Romantic, very comfy lounge with large TV. A beautiful cottage. Newly restored to a very high standard. A perfect "special occasion" stay for 2 people - cosy and romantic, in a great location, many thanks.
First class accommodation in an ideal location for touring the North York Moors and surrounding areas. Quality of the cottage more than exceeded our expectations and very homely feel from day one.The private courtyard was ideal to relax after a day exploring/touring the area.
The overall standard of the property was very high but it was a newly refurbished property. The welcome from the owner was very friendly and it was a lovely relaxing break.
We particularly liked the fact that the accommodation was fresh and new. The cottage was quiet and secluded and in fact surpassed our already high expectations based upon the information on your website.
