The Grain Store, Abersoch

Originally built as a grain store in the 19th Century, this detached property now offers accommodation for groups of up to four people. It is set in an enviable location, offering views of the sea and Mount Cader Idris. The grounds belong to the owner, although there is a private area of garden reserved for visitors with garden furniture and a barbecue for the sunny summer months. Inside, the accommodation is arranged over levels and the renovation has retained original features such as exposed beams throughout the property. For the colder seasons, the cottage is served by central-heating and a coal-effect fire in the sitting-room. With easy access to picturesque walks, this property is a tranquil base for a small group of friends or a family.

Reviews

The converted barn is in a lovely location with a view of Abersoch bay. From the outside it looks cosy and welcoming with colourful flowers in the window boxes. We would describe this property as well worn and grubby. No money has been spent on maintaining the outside and inside area. The outside area was overgrown with weeds and dirty garden chairs preventing safe access to the patio. The furniture was very dated, a worn out leather chair useless to sit on it was so old, cobwebs around the base on the standard lamp, a cooker with no numbers on the knobs, rusty old baking tins, a contaminated first aid kit, ambient food left in the cupboard, a dirty dust pan and brush left in the food cupboard, the list goes on. All issues were raised together with photographic evedence was shared with Sykes Cottages and subsequently the owners. We were hoping to retrieve some the £800 we paid for the holiday. Their response was; all issued raised were trivial therefore no refund of any amount was offered. We would have expected the property to be clean in normal circumstances but during a pandemic ????? If you want to stay in a cosy converted barn with old worn furniture, a lack of investment and poor maintenance this accommodation is for you. Such a shame as it is a lovely building and could be so much better with some thought on what paying guests expect.

The cottage has been well designed to make best use of all available space. Well equipped and comfortable accommodation perfectly situated to explore and enjoy the Llyn Peninsula with its beautiful beaches and stunning scenery.

The Grain Store is in a nice quiet location with a beautiful view of the sea and Cader Idris in the distance. . Clean and comfortable, the kitchen is more than adequately supplied with equipment. However, after a journey of over 200miles a “welcome” tray, set with tea etc. would have been appreciated, such as we have found in other holiday cottages. The property was advertised as “split-level” so a couple of steps between rooms was expected. However the photos of the property from outside as well as interior shots gave no indication of the 7 steep stairs to get from the kitchen & bathroom to the living room, which proved rather a nuisance to a couple of 80yr olds. A mirror in the second bedroom is needed. The shops were advertised as 15mins walk away - but no mention was made that it involved walking along a busy main road with no footpath [unless there is another way of which we were unaware] and the return journey is uphill! Very little local information available in the cottage [most up-to-date promotional leaflet was dated 2014 - most were dated 2009 or before, although we left some current ones for the next visitors ]. WiFi available but rather erratic.

The cottage was a little quirky, having been a farm building conversion, but had everything we needed for a super holiday experience. It was in a lovely quiet spot, within walking distance to Abersoch. One of the better places we have stayed at.

This was our second stay at The Grain Store. It is an excellent accommodation, everything you need is at hand. The location is fantastic, with wonderful views and it is really quiet & peaceful, which suits us perfectly. The owners who live in the adjacent farmhouse are really nice, friendly people. We love walking with our dog Bella & it is such a lovely area around Abersoch, with loads of coastal walks & miles of mostly dog friendly beaches to explore. This coupled with the stay at The Grain Store enabled us to have a smashing holiday. We will be staying there again, it is great.

The Grain Store is an excellent holiday cottage. Everything required to ensure a pleasant stay was at hand and the owners are also very nice people; polite & helpful. The location is fantastic with breathtaking views of the countryside, sea & Snowdonia. Rated by Mr Stoker reviewed on 8th June 2010

Having been to Abersoch many times before but always in the Summer it was great to visit when it was quiet. The view from The Grain Store is fantastic. The house is very comfortable and cosy.

Rated by Mr Sydserff reviewed on 27th April 2010

Although the owner lives very near within the grounds, our privacy was always respected. He was unobtrusive although very pleasant when we spoke to him to settle up at the end of our stay. The cottage was spotless, warm and cosy. Well appointed and equipped.Lots of hot water at all times. Great country and coastal walks on the doorstep, the nearest beach is about 10 minutes walk away but all the beaches in this area are clean. Do visit Hell's Mouth on a windy day! Beautiful views to the sea from the kitchen or the hills from the side of the cottage. Angela's is an excellent Italian restaurant but do book. There are no low points to this critique. We would go again and have recommended it to anyone who will listen. Fabulous.
