Closely associated with the fortunes of nearby Raby Castle and its owners is the pretty Teesdale village of Staindrop in the Yorkshire Dales. The castle, a monument that is open to the public, is one of the grandest in England. Extended and modified over the centuries, the heart of the castle is medieval with a walled garden and 200-acre deer park. Staindrop itself is home to many interesting shops, pubs and cafes, all set round its long village green. The popular market town of Barnard Castle is only five miles away, and is the setting for the Bowes Museum, in addition to its wide range of shops and tea-rooms. The area is a wonderful place for walkers and cyclists with numerous routes throughout the stunning scenery.
From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?
Stayed here with family of 3 adults, 2 children and 3 dogs for a week. It is an absolute stunning place to stay and had more than enough room for us all, the cottage is spacious, well appointed and I had the best nights sleep I’ve had in years, the beds are that good. Whilst you could easily spend your time here never leaving the front door, the walks just around the farm area are amazing and you see different things every time, there’s plenty to do around the area with trips to High Force and Hamsterley Forest highly recommended. The hosts at the cottage are so friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and the sights in it. The children were thrilled to see the sheep being brought onto the farm. Added bonuses are the large field for the dogs to play in and the playground for the children. Honestly, do yourselves a huge favour and recharge your batteries here!!
A really lovely location with beautiful views, and a very comfortable and well equipped cottage, with friendly people who bent over backwards to be helpful.
Lovely holiday cottage, nice and quiet with very friendly owners. Great location for visiting many local places and a great big field for exercising the dog.

The Cote was clean and well maintained. |The owner was helpful and friendly. It was a really good base for the surrounding area and good value for money. For the first weekend I had another couple staying with us, it was handy having an extra bathroom.
Was staying while building work done to our house, fantastic place. The owner was really helpful but not obtrusive. Cottage lovely comfy and cosy.
We stayed in the Côte for 3 weks whilst we searched for a property to purchase. The accommodation was excellent with 3 bathroom a laundry room. We made use of the extra bedrooms when oursons came for a weekend. Having lived in the area some 15 years ago we knew local attractions etc. One new attraction at Shildon the National Railway Museum is free and we'll worth a visit. The owners were helpful without being intrusive. We would recommend this Cottage to anybody looking for a excellent well equipped Cottage in wonderful surroundings.

Beautiful cottage in a beautiful part of the country with amazing views. Went for a relaxing week and definitely enjoyed that. Lovely to be on the farm when all the new lambs were there - so cute. Enjoyed lots of lovely walks across the bountiful farmland with the dog.
Very good place to stay. The owners were very helpful with arrangements and everything was exactly as we expected. Nice countryside setting, with some strolls straight from the door. Staindrop itself is a lovely village, with some nice shops/eateries.
The Cote is an attractive stone building set on a farm with great views out of all windows. The facilities are of high standard with the water from all taps being extremely hot, the underfloor heating also provides you with nice warm feet after a day out in the country, especially during the winter! The kitchen is well proportioned with ample cutlery and crockery. The wooden beams give it a nice "oldy" feel whilst still appearing quite modern. Beds are very comfortable and warm.
The owners were extremely obliging, helpful and friendly. We had a lovely relaxing break.
The Cote is magnificent. The views and the area are a dream. Very well equipped with anything you could think of including extras like games and toys for the children – both indoor & outdoor. Friendly and accommodating hosts is an understatement. Well recommended.
