Located on Valentia Island - which lies off the coast of the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry – Knightstown is a wonderful spot for a holiday. Easily accessible from the mainland by a ferry that runs from Reenard Point, or via the road bridge at Portmagee, Knightstown provides restaurants and pubs, as well as entertainment and local shops. It also offers a variety of sightseeing boat trips and fishing trips from its picturesque harbour. With around 650 residents, Valentia Island was the site of the first permanent communications link between Europe and the United States, and is famed for its magnificent 'Fogher' sea cliffs and its subtropical gardens at Glanleam House.
County Kerry is a mystical and unspoilt part of Ireland, with spectacular natural beauty and a fascinating history. Facing the Atlantic Ocean, it features many sandy beaches, rocky inlets and stunning peninsulas.
We had a wonderfull week at Kate's cottage. We had a warm welcome and the owner is really nice. Good place to stay for visiting around Kerry and many beaches to go swimming at short distance. The cottage has everything you need and for someone like me who loves cooking the kitchen is well equiped: I could get fish, lobsters, crabs, crayfish....fresh from the boats and prepare them for the following meal. Next time we come in Ireland we will stay 2 weeks!
A nice little retreat in a very picturesque part of Ireland. The location of the property is good - not far from Knightstown and the ferry crossing. The property itself could do with a bit of an update - there was a distinct damp smell throughout the property which wasn't great. We were visiting the Island with a larger party who were staying down the road in Chapeltown so we spent most of the time at their house as it was much larger. We mainly just slept at the cottage with our 2 young children (1 and 3) and there was enough room for all of us. We were there for just under 2 weeks - 1 recommendation I would make to the owners, is that there should be a hoover in the property (especially for people staying there that long!) - 2 weeks with 2 kids and no hoover meant that it did get quite messy! Overall a nice holiday.
Amazing setting and friendly host. Ideally situated for relaxing and touring the rest of the area.
We had a lovely stay in this property. The owners were lovely and the garden and views were fantastic. Great location!
We had a perfect holiday, the location was just right - far enough away from the village so we had peace and tranquillity.
Kate's cottage was ideal for us as it provided good accommodation and facilities and no fuss whatsoever. We will certainly use this again if coming that way.
I thought we had written a review! it was a pleasant stay..quiet and cosy. thank you.
Kerry is truly a wonderful part of Ireland, wonderful beaches, walks and so much history. Also plenty of fishing. The owner was a very nice and helpful person. Hopefully will be returning next year.
Nice character to the house in a beautiful setting. Peaceful place. Nice garden.
