The lovely village of Findern is situated about six miles west of Derby. The village green is overlooked by All Saints Parish Church, and there are great walks in the area. Just one mile away is Murcia Marina, the largest inland marina, with bars, boutique shops and restaurants. Also within reach are Derby, Burton-on-Trent and Alton Towers.
We really enjoyed staying in this farm cottage/bungalow. Really roomy, light and cosy. We had everything we needed. Very warm and homely. The cottage is easy to get to as it is just off the A38. It is set up as an accessible property too for people with disabilities. It was lovely to have a welcome basket of bread rolls, jam and marmalade and mince pies. Milk in the fridge too. So nice to have this. Thank you Rosemary. The only thing that what not provided was a hairdryer. We will come and stay again to explore the area some more.
Have stopped at Clovermead Cottage many times now and as usual the place was clean and cosy and well equipped would recommend this property unreservedly to any one Rosemary and David are lovely hosts and nothing is to much trouble for them if you need anything or advise on the area. This cottage is ideal if you have a dog with a very large grassed area around it and good fencing
Lovely cottage, home from home. Clean and comfortable. Great location for us to visit family and the surrounding area of lots of walks. Nice touch with a welcome basket and the owner is very welcoming.
NEVER AGAIN WOULD WE BOOK THIS COTTAGE...we booked on the phone with Sykes Cottages and stated we wasn't sure of the party size due to work commitments at the time but Sykes Cottages confirmed whether 3 or 5 people attended that it didn't matter as we paid for the cottage regardless. i spoke to Mrs Noblet the owner on the phone a week beforehand to confirm check in time and she offered us anytime from 11 am on wards as the door would be unlocked as she was away herself. On arrival the daughter lied to us claiming crossly that there was still cleaners in property when it was clear that she was the cleaner and had a right go at us for turning up early stating she would be having words with her mum about what she had offered us. The next day the mum and daughter walked past us on the street ignoring us completely smerking which we found very unsocialable and rude. We spoke to Mr noblet who stood at the garden gate about buying their eggs and he just stood there not answering us but staring at us, so we asked him again and he rudely said post the money in letterbox. We needed to ask about the shower constantly going cold and they had ignored 2 of our phone caand he huffed off to our cottage next door to his own house grumbling about our request. THE OWNERS CAME INTO TH PROPERTY WHILST WE WERE OUT AND SWITCHED OFF OUTSIDE LIGHTS RADIO AND BATHROOM LIGHT is that legal trespassing on our time uninvited to help themselves for non emergencies and without consent......The outside chairs cushions were dumped by front door in living room and the garden grass was only half cut and dog mess left from their own dogs. The cottage was very dusty old fashioned and marks on the bedding obviously very deceiving photos on site. On departure Mrs Noblet shouted at us for having an extra guest stay over even though my aunt had only visited us on the day as she was visiting relatives near by....Begs the question were they watching us. THERE WAS NO WELCOME WORDS WHILST WE WAS THERE AND NO GOODBYE OR THANK YOU GESTURES AT ALL ON DEPARTURE BUT INSTEAD THE DAUGHTER KNOCKED ON THE DOOR 5 MINUTES BEFORE DEPARTURE TIME AND TOLD US "YOU NEED TO GO NOW SO WE CAN CLEAN UP" ...... how aggressive unprofessional and unkind are is this family...perhaps they choose who to be cruel to and should definitely not be in the hospitality business..absolutely disgusting behaviour
We have just got back from a weeks stay in this beautiful cottage. I went with my husband, eldery inlaws, one of which is not very mobile and our dog, The cottage itself is spacious and with the big sliding glass doors looking out over the beautiful gardens is light and airy. One of the bedrooms has a kingsize bed with an ensuite shower room and again sliding patio doors. The shower room was excellent for my father in law. The other is a twin bedroom. There is a seperate bathroom with bath, toilet and sink. I could not fault the cleanliness of the cottage. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need. On arrival we found a lovely welcome pack with fresh bread, milk and jams and marmalades. The lady owner came across to welcome us and to ask if we needed anything.. They live in the house behind the property but because of the layout of the cottage you are not overlooked by them. There is parking just outside the fence with a very short walk to the property. The property itself is fully enclosed and it was brilliant for our dog to wander about with any fear of him being able to get out. The cottage has a large veranda which runs the whole length of the property and this looks out over the gardens and adjourning fields. It was wonderful to sit out there. The only drawback on this was the fact that there was quite a bit of noise from the A38 which is a busy road. There is a bird table in the garden which is well used by the birds and squirrels in the garden. You can watch them from the veranda, sitting room or the bedroom. We ended up taking a trip to the garden centre down the road to stock up on bird food as it was brilliant sitting watching them. It is a short walk into the village, taking about 5 miutes and we are not quick walkers. There is a post office which sells papers and also has a good selection of food stuff, a hairdressers and tea rooms. We did not visit the tea rooms but it always had people sat outside. The cottage is in a brillant location to visit the area, with things to see and do all being within a short drive away. If you are walkers, if you turn right just outside the cottage and go up the lane there are some nice walks and you can take the path which goes alongside the canal and end up at some nice pubs and also the Marina. We did not get this far with having our in laws with us but did take the dog on some of the shorter walks, so I am not sure how long it takes to get to the pubs. We did drive to them and this only took about 10 minutes. I would definitely visit this cottage again.
