Location Details

On the edge of Burnmoor is the tiny hamlet of Tatham. High above the traditional Yorkshire market town of Bentham and overlooking The Great Stone, this wonderful hamlet is well-situated to see all of Lancashire and Yorkshire. The Great Stone of Fourstones itself is a relic from the Ice Age, standing on the boundary between counties and has become a notable feature of the landscape. From here it's possible to see the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales National Park and The Forest of Bowland, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Visitors can use this wonderful little hamlet as a base for walking holidays across the famous three peaks of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-ghent whilst the less active may enjoy the range of amenities at nearby Bentham. These include a good variety of shops and a range of pubs and restaurants.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

This is a marvellous house. So much room , for 3 generations and a dog. Very comfortable, warm and well equipped. Lots of walks in the area. Beautiful. Lovely owners.

What can I say apart from this was one of the best places I've ever stayed & I've been all over Briton & Europe! The are was outstanding with amazing walks & bike rides. And just fantastic for dog walks. The holiday cottage was spotless when we arrived. The owners even left tea bags, coffee & sugar with biscuits as well! We can't thank them enough for an amazing week in the Dales! Places to visit are - Ingleton Waterfalls, Skipton Castle, Hawes Village & Kirkby Lonsdale. Just driving around the Dales was outstanding! We got our weekly food delivered on the day we arrived but there is a CoOp in Bentham which is a 15 minute drive away. I loved the local petrol garage as they asked me how much I put in my car!! Brings back memories as a kid! Thank Usherwoods as we will be returning ASAP! xxxxx

The welcome by the owners was very good, they were very friendly. The cottage was warm, comfortable and good for the wide range of ages in our party. The location and views were excellent even though the weather was not always kind to us.

Fantastic place; we all had a great time. Amazing views. The two pubs in Bentham were also very friendly. The lady who runs the cottage was also very friendly and helpful in picking out things to do during our weekend. Very much recommend it!

An absolutely lovely property. The directions were first class and all 10 of us got there easily, even in the dark. The owner, who lives next door but one, was so friendly and extremely welcoming - nothing was too much trouble. The scenery and views are spectacular even in the rain. Would highly recommend.

We stayed here for a long weekend with extended family! Very good value for money. The kitchen was well equipped - especially then there are 11 of you and a baby. The owners were very accommodating and done everything they could to help us. It snowed very heavily the night before we were leaving. So in the morning, they gritted the driveway for us to help us out - exceptional service really. There are amazing views from all angles of the cottage. We will definitely be back :-).

Rated by Deniz M reviewed on 17th January 2016

The house - The kitchen was well equipped and easy to work in. The bedrooms are clean and comfortable with black out blinds in the sky lights. The living room was very cosy and the log burner very welcome after getting caught in the rain during our Ingleton trip! The house itself is like a show home, finished to a high standard and an absolute pleasure to call it home for a few days. The views are something else!! Look out of any window upstairs, downstairs, kitchen, or bedroom, they all are fantastic! Value for Money - 100% The surroundings - So much to see, so much to do! Some hidden gems so do your research and plan before you go. The Ingleton Waterfalls Trail is a great way to spend an afternoon. The amount of rain that had fallen made it a spectacular sight. The Hosts - Very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. Very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and had a real passion for it which was nice to see. We will be back again in the summer!!

This is beautiful property in a beautiful location. Throughly enjoyed by all age 2 to 70. Owners were welcoming and very easy to talk to. Lovely & quiet with all amenities. Safe outdoor area for children to play and enough internet signal to keep them entertained in the evening (cbeebies.com!). Close to lots of fun attractions, the caves, Lancaster, farm parks and just rambling around the local villiages. The local Mart was well worth a look on market day. We would stay here again in the future.

From the moment we stepped through the door we were impressed. Usherwoods is a fantastic property; spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. The layout and décor was well thought out and added to the overall charm of the place. Despite the weather being very wet and wild, we were all snug and warm inside and overall had a wonderful time. We are looking to book again next year.

The cottage was perfect for us. The kitchen is huge, with a big dining table, the bedrooms suited us, especially the black-out Velux in one of the singles (for the baby). The "main" bedroom is large with a beautiful en-suite and the family bathroom has a huge bath. The views from the property and the garden are just wonderful. We were able to let the kids roam the garden - they were fascinated by the chickens and sheep!

We were really pleased with the size, layout and standard of the property. We were a group of 11, including 2 small children, and there was plenty of room for all of us. I particularly liked the large kitchen/dining area, which was great for all gathering around the big table for family dinners. The Dairy is set in beautiful surroundings with great views. In short, it was ideal for our stay!

Rated by Ms Walters reviewed on 24th May 2014

Spacious, well laid out property was well stocked with everything we needed, including thoughtful touch of freshly laid eggs in the fridge waiting for us. Big kitchen/dining area was highlight for me, great for cooking and sitting down for big family meals. The weather was unfortunately pretty wet for the week we were there so didn't do as many walks as we would have liked but still got to explore some of the surrounding countryside, which was beautiful. There were plenty of leaflets in the cottage with suggestions for activities and destinations nearby for kids and grown ups. All in all, would happily recommend!

We have just returned from an amazing week at Usherwoods. There were 11 people in our group of 3 families. The house was spacious both inside & out and at no point did anybody feel on top of each other. The location was perfect for our group with all necessary amenities only a short drive away. It's in a great location for day trips out to the lakes & Ingleton etc but not too far from Lancaster for big shops & cinemas etc. The owners were so friendly and available for any requirements we had. They even left us some basic supplies of tea & coffee etc for our arrival. We all had such a good time that we have booked another 2 holidays for 2014. I'm counting down the days already.

The service as usual met all critera for a trouble free holiday. The directions shown to the 'Dairy' accurate and easy to follow. The accomodation was of a high specification with attention to detail and would suit a large party/gathering with plenty of parking. Plenty of space both internally and externally, large kitchen/dinning, lounge, utility room, adequate shower rooms/bathroom/toilet facilities. Good size entrance hall to cater for all outdoor clothing and shoes/boots of walkers before entering the main part of the cottage. The cottage was very warm and friendly controllable. Location is excellent for The Dales and surrounding countryside to include The Lakes. Many places of interest, to include picture post card towns, caves, waterfalls, beautiful country walks, of which there are many provided in the up to date guides at the cottage. A car is a requirement due to the remote situation but also close enough to a village for day to day shopping requirements. A few excellent places to eat out locally. A truly rural environment can be enjoyed by staying at 'Dairy'.

Our annual gathering took place here this year, from all parts of the UK and Ireland. with ages from 2 to 60 the house accomodated all of us with ease. Well appointed and roomy, some noise, but what can you expect from three teenagers. Well positioned to visit the many attractions in the area, but a quiet haven if you just want to chill. Best supermarket a bit of a ride, but what are lists for. The owners were next door if required, but we never saw them or needed them. One of the best places we have found in 20 years of annual gatherings and ifit wasn't for the factthat we never visit the same place twice I would have no hesitation in booking the house again. You won't be disappointed if you go there for your holiday.

This property is in the most beautiful location. You are literally surrounded by jaw-dropping scenery. There are views of the Lake District, the Howgills, the Three Peaks of the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland. There were endless options for places to explore in the surrounding area, within an hour being in either the Lake District or the Dales and the local area was also a real revelation. That is of course, if you want to leave the house! Extremely easy check-in - the key was in the door! We had a wave from the owners as we passed them on the drive and they popped by later when we had had time to unpack and settle in. The owners are very helpful and we felt they would do anything to be of assistance - they even said give us a call anytime if you need any recommendations and were accomodating even when we popped around asking for firewood on a cold, wet evening - within 5 minutes the basket of wood was delivered to our porch. Half an hour after our arrival, Tesco arrived with our shopping - all we had to do was put it away. The house is beautifully clean - not a speck of dust and was unbelievably warm with the underfloor heating throughout the doorstairs and cosy open fire. The bedrooms were well appointed, we had tonnes of room and we enjoyed having a bathroom each (there are 3 in total). The kitchen was very well equipped and we loved cooking on the stove. The grounds were lovely and Blanche our bulldog was extremely happy to meet the local animals, the sheep, ducks, wallabies and her fave, the friendly cows, who seemed to worship her! Highly recommended and will hopefully return if travelling with a larger group.

We wokr to lovely viewd and never had to worry about annoying the neighbours due to the location of the property. We did have a few problems at first finding this property in the dark but thankfully our tesco delivery van found us and helped us find the propoerty and an added bonus that while we in the middle of the country we could still have all our food delivered. It was little isolated in the moors though this was a plus for us as the scenery was beautiful and there was lots of walking if you felt so inclined! The cottage was spacious and comfortable, with great common areas for gathering and quiet places to retreat from the crowd. Beautiful showers, excellent kitchen facilities, and a nice patio. The sunsets were exquisite from the back garden windows and the patio. Our group hiked, biked and rode horses all within the immediate vicinity of the cottage. Pubs and shops were a brisk walk away in High Bentham, and the sights of the Dales were a short drive away. All in all a great experience!

The 'communal' areas ie, the kitchen and the lounge were spacious and well equipped. The location was great with easy access to lots of interesting places for days out eg. Malham Cove. Friendly hosts, lovely position, lovely grounds and superb a cottage layout. Wonderful huge kitchen. We all felt as if we had lots of space. Excellent recycling area. Wallabies were a delight and something we were unaware of! We would recommend the property to others and would be pleased to rebook if we were coming to the same area. Thank you.

The overall setting of the place and the comfort and facilities that the cottage offered were excellent. The place provided all the mod-cons but still managed to feel rustic and homely. The owner was very approachable and helpful, and I would definitely recommend it to groups of family and friends as a wonderful setting to get together.
