Reviews

Stunning, away from it all location, with excellent walking from the front door. Wonderfully comfortable and everything we needed or could have needed was provided. We rarely return to a place twice (too many other places to visit) but we definitely plan to return to Padley Barn

The location is absolutely wonderful! In the heart of Swaledale with stunning views of the moors. A great walking area and close to several charming villages. The cottage is very well equipped, extremely comfortable, clean and attractive. You can walk into the beautiful countryside straight from the front door but if you want a pub or a shop you'll need to travel several miles - we loved the peace and quiet. The surrounding moors are home to many sheep, grouse and rabbits and the neighbouring chickens and cat may pay you a visit which our children enjoyed. The owner is very helpful and responsive and the house contains lots of local information and detailed maps which were very useful.

Padley Barn is the best cottage that we have stayed in, in fact this is our second stay and already planning a third. It is situated in the remote small village of Hurst where you experience peace and tranquillity and just watching all the different birds especially ‘Woody’ the woodpecker that visit the feeders is so relaxing. Padley Barn is spotlessly clean and well equipped with everything and more than you need for the stay. The welcome pack is a very nice touch. It is extremely comfortable and has the most luxurious bed that I have ever slept in. The village of Reeth is about 5 miles away where you can stock up on any forgotten provisions. Despite being in a remote location the Wi-Fi was very good (probably better than we get at home) and there are plenty of walks from the doorstep so no need to use the car. Can’t wait to visit again next year.

We spent a wonderful week at Padley barn with our children and in laws last week. It is a beautiful barn equipped with everything you could need for a lovely family holiday. The Barn is quite remote but this suited us and the local area is lovely for walking and mountain biking. Reeth is a short distance by car or by bike and is definitely worth a visit - there a few nice pubs, a lovely cafe/coffee shop called overton house which we visited for breakfast, a small museum crammed full of information on the local area, shops selling locally made items and a library/tourist information point (worth a visit to pick up some info as there is lots to see and do in the local area). Richmond and Leyburn are also close by and we had lovely days out in both places. Catterick Garrison seemed to be the closest place for a supermarket (tesco) and large shopping outlet if you need them. We were there for the Ard Rock Enduro event and our accommodation was close by and a perfect place to explore the locally area on the mountain bikes. We loved Yorkshire, Reeth and Padley Barn and hope to return soon

We have just spent a few lovely days at Padley Barn with our family. It is in a beautiful if rather remote location. The cottage is warm and cosy with an impressively well equipped kitchen. I would highly recommend, there are many interesting places to visit nearby and good walking/cycling.

Great Cottage. Had two brilliant weeks. Everything there is of a very high standard and top quality. I have to confess that I only used half of the amazing cooker. Loads of cutlery, plates etc. I only mention this as we've been in many cottages that provide the bare minimum. There's virtually anything that you may need on hand. We had one hot week followed by a cooler week and then the burner in the "lounge" came into its own. Fantastic. Best and easiest to light fuel burner we've ever had in a cottage. There are neighbours to the left and right (4 dwellings in all on the track) who were all a pleasure to know and will help you with anything if you need it, but otherwise respect your privacy and you don't see them. Having said that, you will meet their animals. There are chickens constantly visiting the front of the cottage, usually to check out the ground under the bird feeding station, to which great tits, coal tits, blue tits, a nuthatch, a great spotted woodpecker, many chaffinches and sparrows were regular visitors, plus a regular Mr and Mrs Pheasant. Many great walks from the cottage, without using your car, but within a 5 to 15 min drive the dale offers immense opportunities. You have Catterick Garrison Retail Complex and Richmond only 20 mins away, whilst if you walk up past the lane Padley Barn is on, within 5 mins you're on open moorland. Loved it. Wifi worked well, just the odd glitch but no problem. The bed in the "master" bedroom is huge and pretty well the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Super place and super location.

Really enjoyed our stay at Padley. It was very well equipped and beautifully presented. All the furnishings were of good quality and felt like home as soon as we arrived. The directions to the property were very detailed including general information about the surroundings towns and places to eat. It was evident the owner has taken a lot of time and energy to make it an enjoyable holiday home. We will return and would recommend it to family and friends.

Good sized rooms, enough space for all of our group. Lovely views.

Rated by Mrs Brown reviewed on 25th November 2014

We booked this as a group of work friends as a weekend away. We were booked for Friday to Sunday night inclusive but only stayed for 2 due to work commitments, It still worked out ery cheap per night! Communication prior to our visit was excellent, every question answered in detail. On arrival to the barn it was very clean, well laid out, tastefully decorated with more than enough facilities (you couldn't get moved for the chopping boards in the kitchen!). There was instructions for everything, bedding and furnishings to the highest standard as well as loads of stuff in the cupboards (spices, sauces, coffee etc etc). The views are awesome and it is a very tranquil place. Phone signal is none existent and wi fi is hit or miss. Not sure why they have a sky+hd tv box as only channel 1-5 worked. maybe this has something to do with the location being remote? Really though, there's nothing to complain about and we will be making it an annual retreat... we may even go twice a year!

The Barn was furnished to a very high standard. The bed the was most comfortable one we have ever slept in whilst in a holiday cottage. The setting and views were lovely with lots of moorland walks from the property's door. Very quiet and a great place for re-charging your batteries. Couldn't fault it any part of it at all!
