The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.
Poor cleanliness (hair in the kitchen, stains on the bed sheet), faulty showers and plugs that made them unusable and unable to get in contact with anyone, even when booked direct. Definitely not worth the money and would advise people to avoid if getting married at the Ashes.
Absolutely loved our stay in this cottage, we'll equipped for my little family, plenty of games and bits for us to do on an evening after tiring ourselves out all day. Kids loved the park being so close. Such a beautiful little area! Clean and cosy little cottage with a lovely owner.
We really enjoyed our short stay at Daisy Cottage. We found the cottage so well equipped for us and our children, especially the kitchen. The beds and duvets were really comfy and the wood burner made our evenings cosy (it was July but felt rather chilly). Kids enjoyed toasting marshmallows using the chiminea outside. We had three lovely walks from the front door of the cottage, and another three gorgeous walks nearby at Padley Gorge, Robin Hood's Stride, and Dovedale Steps. We also visited Chatsworth which is only 20 minutes away by car. The Peak District is beautiful and this cottage was a lovely place to stay. The owner was also really helpful with our requests. I would recommend this cottage.
Booked this cottage for 4 July 2020 after lockdown. The cottage clearly has not been cleaned to a decent standard. Bath dirty! Something had obviously been poured around the bath and not wiped as it had set and plug hole green!! Dust and dirt on hi fi and table lamp! Large dirty fingerprints on mirror in bedroom. Light switches dirty. Table mats dirty. No pillow protectors. Kitchen work surfaces and bowl in sink not cleaned to a decent standard either. No tv remote. Dirty by anyone’s standards. Not acceptable!!!
Stayed here as a family of 4 (2 adults, 4 year old and 7 year old) for a week. The cottage was clean & generally well-equipped (there was even a wok, weighing scales and several good kitchen knives) though a larger freezer & a washing machine would have been nice. Cosy living room & bedrooms, big bathroom. Very well set up for children with loads of toys, books and DVDs. It's in a cute village close to Matlock/Matlock Bath and not too far from Bakewell or Buxton. There's a shop very close by which was handy. Only gripe was that the house info manual mentioned an array of bins, not all of which were present. Messaged the owner about this and didn't get a reply which felt like poor service (and we ended up taking our recycling home to dispose of!).
This is generally a good standard cottage and we enjoyed our holiday. The place was clean and a reasonable level of comfort. The quality of amenities was OK but not "excellent". We were a little disappointed that, given the relatively premium price, the cottage lacked a few "extras". Nothing major that had a significant impact on our stay but enough to become a bit annoying. For example: 10-year-old TV with limited digital channels; no facility for catch-up TV (e.g. BBC iPlayer)..... a NowTV or Roku box is very cheap; slow internet; insufficient sockets (e.g. 4 appliances by sofa but only 2 sockets); squeeky bedroom doors (un-oiled); out-of-date food in kitchen cupboards (cleaner or owner should be clearing these items out - now thrown away by us); no black-out blinds (despite the cottage instructions saying there were blinds) and very thin curtains that are too narrow to completely cover windows (we had to cover windows with bath towels!); no electrical power to gas cooker so automatic ignition did not function; instruction pack from owner received my email on our arrival day was not up-to-date (e.g. no bin collection dates for 2018, incorrect info re: window blinds, door keys, etc). So nothing major but shows inattention by the owner to detail. A major electrical fault with bathroom extractor fan occurred on our penultimate day (fuses blew and smell of burning wires!). We notified the owner by email as no mobile phone reception in cottage but no response or acknowledgement from owner. Not great communication!
We have just returned from an amazing week at the gorgeous Daisy Cottage. What a stunning location and property it is and it is right in the heart of the village but also benefiting from a rural location. The cottage was so well equipped and really felt like a home from home. I can't think of one thing that wasn't catered for. Anyone staying I would definitely recommend a visit to the Old Bowling Green, a lovely welcoming pub that serves delicious food as well. This was our first visit to the Peak District but it won't be our last and Daisy Cottage will be our choice of property. A few pics from just outside of the cottage ❤️
Lovely cottage in beautiful location. Very cosy and well equipped. Two pubs in village, both serving excellent food and a well stocked village store. Lots of local walks and National Trust properties to visit.
A lovely Cottage in a beautiful part of the country.
A very comfortable and delightful cottage.
Comfortable and well-equipped cottage in delightful surroundings.
The cottage was absolutely brilliant. The owners have thought of everything and this made the stay extremely comfortable. The extra touches for my son were brilliant. He really enjoyed having the toys and books there. The furnishings were of a very high standard and this made if feel very homely.
Daisy cottage is a lovely, simple cottage well constructed on the outside which gives rise to a well maintained and nice sized cottage on the inside. All modern conveniences worked well. Living spaces were generous and bedrooms well furnished. Plenty of thought has been put into making staying there as easy as possible. We are looking forward to going back once again.
Daisy Cottage was a wonderful place to stay. We flew over from the US to stay meet and introduce our 10 month old to her English family. The cottage was very well equipped and made this trip a lot easier. The village of Winster is beautiful and well located within the Peaks.
The cottage is is in a lovely location. Close to Matlock if you need shops & supermarkets (5 mins drive). We chose this cottage as it sleeps 6 & is quite close to Alton Towers (45 min drive). We also visited Chatsworth House (great fun for the kids). The cottage is very well appointed with everything you could possibly need for an enjoyable stay. We even made use of the slow cooker! Great to have dinner ready after a day thrill seeking at Alton Towers! We had a very small plumbing issue but it was sorted within a few hours by the owners, so you can't complain at that kind of service, they couldn't have been more helpful. We would definitely recommend this cottage & would certainly stay here again.
The property was brilliant, it was very well equipped. In a good location for Alton towers etc.
This cottage was beautiful. Homely and well equipped which was such a comfort when travelling with young children. So many added little extras made the difference.
A lovely little cottage filled with lots of additional extras which was great and unexpected for a family holiday. Lots of helpful, local information.
Great location and a comfortable and well equipped cottage. Had a great supply of children's books, toys & DVD's which kept the children amused on rainy days.
Setting of cottage was great. The owners were very helpful and even provide toys and DVD's. Stair gate was already in place as our Grandson was with us. We had taken our own as we did not expect this. Everything needed and more was provided.
Daisy Cottage is situated on a quiet side road away from the main street and opposite a small adventure playground. Off-road parking though note the space is tight! The local shop is nearby, as are a couple of pubs. It is equipped to a high standard with a spacious kitchen and a separate dining area. There is also a lovely little terrace at the back of the property. The living room is cosy and comfortable and the woodburner was a real treat after a wet and chilly afternoon of walking. The bedrooms were a decent size though the 3rd room is best suited to a young child. My only criticism is that there is no washing machine here so staying for a week with young children leads to quite a mountain of laundry!
The location of the cottage - it was away from the Main Street with its busier traffic flow and situated opposite a playground where I could see my children from the cottage window. The views from the playground were quite spectacular too.
Daisy Cottage is a lovely, homely, comfortable holiday cottage perfect for a family holiday in the Peak District. Everything is well thought out and the toys and books for children are brilliant.
A very enjoyable weeks stay in Daisy Cottage. The cottage itself had everything that we needed for a stay with children. The bedrooms were all very comfortable, the amount of games was excellent and although we had brought some of our own children's toys, we needn't had, as they spent most of the time we were in the cottage, playing with the games/ toys/ books that were there. Wifi is provided which is great and the dishwasher in the kitchen was an added bonus meaning no need to wash up whilst on holiday!!. The guest information sent before we arrived provided lots of very useful information and it was good to get this beforehand. The cottage is in a lovely location. There is parking out the front, which is an added bonus as everyone else was having to park on the main road. Although the parking in front of the cottage is tight, we managed to park our Mazda 6 after a bit of manoeuvring. We visited Chatsworth House (20 mins drive), Heights of Abraham (15mins drive), Alton Towers (45 mins drive) and also did a few walks, plenty of maps provided in the cottage. The village shop is at the top of the lane (1 min walk). We enjoyed a meal in The Bowling Green pub which has a good children's menu and had an excellent meal in Viva Italian restaurant, Matlock (just on left side of road on the way to Matlock Bath from Sainsburys). All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Daisy Cottage.
We enjoyed our weeks stay at Daisy Cottage. The cottage had everything we needed and myself, 12 year old son, and elderly parents had a fabulous week, driving to the many Derbyshire attractions (Heights of Abraham, Bakewell, Chatsworth, Carsington Water) all of which were only a short drive away. The cottage is in a friendly village, with a well stocked shop and post office. The cottage owners gave us lots of helpful information before our trip so that we could plan our activities. We had a great time.
Lovely cottage in a friendly village. Very central to many of the attractions of Derbyshire. Chatsworth, Heights of Abraham, Tram museum, Bakewell, Matlock all within half an hour drive.
Had great Christmas at daisy cottage. very well maintained everything you need for cooking etc. very clean and cosy.lovely village with pub and shop. hope to come back again in the future.
The toys and entertainment provided by the owners are exceptional. My three boys aged between 14 months and 6 years loved the cottage. The cottage is a beautifully decorated in keeping with age of the property.
The place is great and has lots for kids to do. Location is perfect for visiting many places. Big problem is there is no parking. The one in front of the property is for a car size of a Mini. Accomodation is really for 5 to stay comfortably. I don't agree that 7 can stay comfortably.
One of the best cottages we have stayed in anywhere in the country. Well situated for most attractions in the Peaks, comfortably furnished, with a good well appointed kitchen.
A nice cosy cottage that has pretty furnishings and good quality linen and bedding. A very easy place to stay and very homely. Excellent community run village shop a few yards from the cottage. Very good pub close by that does excellent food. Well located village with plenty to do in the surrounding area.
We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage exceeded expectations. Lovely decor and furnishings. Very comfortable and well equipped. Very friendly communication with owner. Advice given on where to eat, local recommendations are always useful. Good maps and info on local places in cottage.
We really enjoyed our stay at Daisy Cottage. It was clean, comfortable and well-equipped for young children. It is seconds away from a lovely playground and countryside walks and there is a well-stocked village shop at the end of the road. The children loved the toy and games cupboard!
Booking the cottage was very easy and I found the owner to be very helpful and friendly in our communication. The property looks lovely from the outside, very quaint and inside is just lovely! It is very well equipped - great games to play! We had everything we needed. The beds were very comfy and we felt we had plenty of space (there were four adults in our party). The village is small and nice to walk round. There is a useful shop in the village and we ate at The Bowling Green pub one night which was also great.
We had a fantastic few days staying at Daisy Cottage it was decorated and maintained to a very high standard, we would highly recommend this property. Also for location purposes it was very centrally based.
We had an amazing few days at this lovely cottage and the kids didn't want to come home! The village of Winster is great and the local people very friendly. It is also very well located for the surrounding areas. Overall, we couldn't find fault with anything!
Stayed for half term week at Daisy Cottage with Family of 5. It was a delight, well equipped and beautifully furnished, very cosy with the wood burner and in a charming Derbyshire village. An excellent location from which to explore the Peak District.
We had a lovely week at Daisy Cottage, my husband and i, 4 teenagers and a 3 year old. The cottage is a perfect mix of modern and old, lovingly renovated and beautifully furnished and extremely well equipped. Toys/games and books for all ages are provided. The back courtyard is very private and secluded. Winster itself is charming and the cottage is tucked away down a no through road. A village store is well placed at the top of the road. The owners were friendly and helpful on the phone. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would have loved to stay longer. Would recommend most highly.
We booked this cottage for a week away in the Peak District through www.sykescottages.co.uk the whole process was very quick and easy. The owner was very approachable and really helpful, we were travelling with a small baby and the owner was kind enough to put changing mats, toys and sterilizers in the cottage ready for our arrival. The cottage itself is lovely and far exceeded our expectations. It looked really nice from the photo's but to be honest they didn't do it justice, it was a lot more spacious than it looked. On arrival the cottage was lovely and clean and the kitchen well stocked with utentsils and equipment. The real plus about this cottage for us was that it was in a lovely small village and had a village shop at the top of the lane, this was great for essentials. The only thing to note regarding the property was that the drive way was quite tight to get on and off of, but if you take your time its not a problem. Overall highly recommended.
We spent a long weekend at Daisy Cottage and we had a fantastic time. The cottage itself was very cosy, well equipped, and very well situated in the village of Winster. The farm-shop/newsagents at the end of the cobbled street is open 7 days a week and the village is also served by two accomodating pubs (Bowlers Green had a great buzz on the Saturday night). We used the cottage as a base for some road cycling around Matlock, Bakewell, Ashbourne and Chatsworth Estate and we couldn't have asked for a better location! The under-floor heating in the bathroom was a real treat upon returning from 50 miles of damp cycling!! We are already planning a return trip. The only slight (very slight) grumble was that one of the couples had to share a bunk-bed and not a double, however, this was soon forgotten about when we discovered the well-stocked board games draw!!! Fantastic cottage, thanks muchly. Ed and friends!!
