Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
Spent a glorious week in this wonderful cottage. So well equipped and comfortable. Are hosts were so kind liked the welcome cake The cottage is so well situated with wonderful walks and places to visits all on the doorstep or short drives. We spotted deer on Hutton Crags and we were so pleased with local eateries in Kirkby Lonsdale. The cottage was fully equipped and lovely in warm even on frosty nights. Ideal for star watching on a clear night and views were breathtaking.
The view from the Barn was brilliant. The kitchen is the best equipped kitchen we have had. The beds were very comfortable and the showers were so easy to use.
The house was perfect and the owners know exactly what people want. It is ideally situated for exploring the Lakes and surrounding area and is supplied with everything you could need for your stay. Every little detail is taken care of.
So lovely and so british !
Pickle Barn is in a lovely location with views for miles. There is a mixture of garden and woodland, so plenty of wildlife nearby. The property is very comfortable with lots of light. The heating is good and the underfloor heating is great. The owner welcomed us and we could contact him if we needed to. A very pleasant stay!
The cottage was extremely well appointed. It was well finished to a high standard in a lovely quiet location. We would both be very happy to recommend it to anyone.
The barn is excellent, very clean and everything you need. When we arrived there were a lovely selection of traybakes - delicious. The views from the upstairs living accommodation are lovely. My husband had the best 2 nights astronomy he has ever had. We could not fault anything!
Welcoming hosts, idyllic location, closeness to nature, unspoilt character of area, tranquillity, national trust properties , bird reserves.
Beautiful location and views. Walks straight from the cottage.
Quiet - away from traffic - main sound was bleating sheep and new-born lambs. Facilities all as described, high quality in everything. Balcony views to Ingleborough. Between Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, south of the Howgills. Pubs/restaurants 2 or 4+miles away. Hutton Roof is indeed 3 miles from the Kirkby Lonsdale turn but there's over a mile of village to pass through before the Pickle Barn turn. Generous heating and plenty of hot water at all times.
We were made to feel very welcome and were given a lot of information about local attractions etc. The cottage is set in a beautiful part of the country, and it was a lovely peaceful place to return to after a day out. Would recommend the train ride from Settle to Carlisle, and there is a lovely cycle ride along the river Lune.
A very cosy retreat set in an idyllic location. Cleanliness was 5*!
A lovely place. Excellent views. Ideally located for tourist attractions.
Beautiful cottage. Lovely views. Very friendly hosts. Very convenient for Cumbria and Yorkshire. Have been three times now.
A beautifully appointed cottage in glorious peaceful surroundings. The property had everything we needed and we were fascinated by the spectacular views from the garden. We couldn't have had a warmer welcome from Mike and Steve - tea and cakes set out for our arrival and a visit to make sure all was ok. This cottage is somewhere we are looking forward to visiting again.
Exceptional location with great views of surrounding countryside. Very quiet, very relaxing, central to both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.
The accommodation was excellent, with spectacular views from the living areas. The owners were very helpful and had thought of everything to make the use of their accommodation a real treat including tea and cakes on arrival. The accommodation provided all equipment required and more. Would highly recommend Pickle Barn.
We appreciated the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners who were on site.
We liked all aspects of our holiday. There is a lot to do in the area, even for a 4 year old, and the property is first class. We will certainly consider returning to the area in the future!
Very warm welcome and very helpful throughout our weeks stay. Nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend. Very peaceful location. Absolutely lovely. My kids loved it.
We were made very welcome by the owners Mike and Steve with tea and yummy cakes awaiting us on our arrival. Very well equipped kitchen. Lovely TV etc with a large selection of books, games, videos etc. Comfortable bedrooms and clean well-equipped bathrooms. Perfect location, very peaceful with gorgeous views in every direction. Short drive away from a lovely supermarket on edge of the lovely market town of Kirby Lonsdale. Good local pubs, in particular the Barbon Inn! We also loved the 2 horses in the stable across the driveway who greeted us each morning and evening, and all the sheep and bunnies! Only grumble - the property would benefit from a washing machine (there isn't one!) and also from an upstairs loo - there is a small room off of the lounge which would fit the bill perfectly!
Lovely quiet and peaceful surroundings. Ideal location for traveling to the lakes and local countryside. Cottage was very comfortable and suited our needs.
Great place, great location, everything within 30 mins drive for the kids. The owners showed great hospitality and a very warm welcome. Would definitely recommend and revisit in the future.
It really felt like having "time out", the sense of peace from being away from it all in this beautiful part of the world, the friendliness of the people and walking across amazing landscapes improved our well-being, our fitness and family unity.
Pickle Barn is in a stunning location, really peaceful with fantastic views on all sides. It is within easy reach of the A65 and extremely close to the border with both Lancashire and the Yorkshire Dales, so day trips to both plus of course the Lake District are an absolute must. The barn itself is really well equipped and comfortable, with very helpful owners. The tea and cakes on arrival were very welcome. A wonderful property!
One of the best, if not the best, property of Sykes Cottages we have stayed in and we have stayed in many great places over the years. I can't fault it in any way. The owner was welcoming and left essential goodies which were much appreciated. If you want a holiday where you can swtich-off, this is the place for you. In the middle of the rolling countryside it is a great place to recharge your batteries. However, there are lots of interesting places to visit within the vicinity so you can have the best of both worlds.
We received a nice welcome from the hosts and they were very approachable but also respected our privacy. Games, DVD, videos were provided in the property and some useful foods that are difficult to transport and can't be bought in small quantities. Thoughtful of the hosts to include these items.
We booked to stay at Pickle Barn in July during a family holiday. While our booking was for a week, we could only fit four nights into our schedule. Right from the moment we drove up and saw the sheep grazing and the stallion sticking its head out of the stable, we wished we were there longer. It was peaceful and quiet, and our hosts left us alone to explore - which we did, from North Wales to York Minster and Keswick in between. The accommodation is even nicer than the pictures on the website, and location is great - close to an A-Road, and Kirkby Lonsdale a short drive away.
Wow! Pickle Barn's location in the Lune Valley is simply stunning. The surrounding landscape is beautiful, peaceful and so quiet! Our host was charming and very welcoming, laying on tea and cakes ready for our arrival. The barn itself is fabulous, the conversion is quite new so all the facilities offered are in great condition with breathtaking views of sweeping countryside from the upstairs living area balconies. It was lovely just to sit with a pot of tea and watch the weather roll by and the birds come and go in the six acres of grounds. Perfect! Also plenty to do within twenty minute's drive in the nearby Yorkshire Dales and there's a good quality supermarket ten minutes away.
It is so peaceful, very clean, lovely views, and friendly owners. Loads of sheep and birds to watch. We like dealing with Sykes.
Comfort, cleanliness and the location all get a perfect 10. Just fell in love with this place.
Probably the weather, but that was just luck. The location of Pickle Barn and the views are fantastic. The owners were welcoming and the property spotless. Beds comfortable and kitchen well equipped.
There are many fantastic things to say about Pickle Barn, but for us the best thing was the view - on a good day (we were very lucky) you can see the lake district and the yorkshire dales, as well as the howgill hills and some lovely farmland. Does it need to be said that the location is fantastic ? We spent 2 days in the Lakes ( 30 mins away) , 1 day in the Dales (similar distance) and the rest of the time more locally - we love Kirby Lonsdale, this was out third visit and it justs grows on us. It was our first time at Pickle Barn and we will certainly be back - friendly owners and a good welcome with lots of thoughtful 'extras' , immaculatly clean, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, nice bathrooms, lots of outside space, peace and quiet. it was lovely to eat breakfast with the doors wide open and the sun streaming in ... missing it already.

Quiet and relaxing location with great views.
The underfloor heating made the cottage warm and cosy. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. The cottage is in a peaceful location and is handy for visiting the local area. We would definitely recommend this cottage.
The accommodation was so cosy and comfortable and nothing was too much trouble for the owner of the Barn. Had a brilliant time and would certainly return to Pickle Barn.
The cottage was above our expectations! Beautiful country side views and a tranquil setting with a friendly welcome. Highly recommended.
Very good location, convenient for touring. Very peaceful in the middle of the country but only 3 miles away from all facilities.
The house was just perfect, just as we expected - refreshing and cosy. We enjoyed our stay there and will cherish the memories. Thanks for everything.
The accommodation was great and we felt at home. Would definitely recommend Pickle Barn to friends.
Wonderful welcome from owner. Excellent accommodation, spacious for 4 adults. We loved the friendly free-range chickens looking in our downstairs bedroom window!
We were welcomed by the owner with wine and cake the accomodation was immaculate and the owner was helpful and not too far away. The cottage was located at the end of a mile drive from main road which provided a peaceful environment to relax and enjoy the countryside. The accomodation had everything you needed for an enjoyable holiday with well fitted kitchen tv and games to play. Within a mile from the cottage we enjoyed lovely walks with beautiful views. The cottage was only a few miles away from the nearest pub and supermarket. We would like to stop there again and would recommend it to anyone.
Beautiful peaceful rural location, situated between dales, lakes and the coast. Even when the wind blows and the rain falls it's a cosy place to relax in and watch the world go by.
This is wonderful accomodation with every comfort taken care of. Very clean.
Very quiet area, very friendly and helpful owners.
Very good property. Suited our needs
From start to finish we had an excellent time. Accommodation was fantastic, lovely and clean, well catered for. Our host was lovely, not in your face, but around if you needed her. The children loved being able to collect the eggs from the hen house for her, and keeping them to eat. They could have stayed around the garden all day. All in all we highly recommend the accommodation & area. A big thank you to the owner for having us.
This was better than we ever expected. 1st class accommodation. The owner has thought of everything you need. The caves are worth a visit.
Lovely location, great facilities, very enjoyable all round. Can't fault anything. Owner was very friendly, as were her chickens and dogs !
Fantastic location, Quiet with superb views over Cumbria and Yorkshire Dales. Excellent accommodation and well stocked kitchen. Very clean and comfortable. A great deal of thought had been given about everything even down to fresh eggs, milk and scones supplied on arrival. We will definitely revisit.
Set in a lovely location, loved the views from the upstairs living area, owner very friendly and helpful. Chickens were a delight.
We had a wonderful week and cannot praise the accommodation enough. We would have no qualms about recommending the Barn to anyone and hope to go back ourselves in the not too distant future. The views are spectacular, and it is very well situated for touring both the lakes and the dales.
Wonderfully peaceful location in a wonderful place with friendly people, but still within easy distance of all that we wanted to see.
Good location for touring, excellent views from the property, nice relaxed feel about the whole place. We will definitely return to this cottage!
Great for couples.
We have stayed in many self catering cottages, but this is about the best we have stayed in. Having the lounge upstairs was great to be able to see the wonderful views especially of Ingleborough.
The accommodation and location was excellent. It was a lovely surprise to have tea and freshly baked scones waiting when we arrived!
A really beautiful place to stay. Such a peaceful place to stay, would definitely go back again. Highly recommended.
Excellent property.
Pickle Barn was far and away the best UK holiday accommodation we have ever booked. The setting and overall standard of the property cannot be faulted. And we loved the chickens!
The wonderful location was complemented by the high standard of the accommodation and the warmth of the welcome by the owners.
Accomodation and location.
Wonderful accommodation in a tranquil part of the Lune Valley. Many lovely walks close by with the birds and lambs making the only noise for miles. Lovely gardens and barn conversion means that we can't wait to stay at Pickle Farm again.
The cottage was so comfortable and good value for money. We would love to return one day in the future.
The situation and layout of the cottage were very good. It was very quiet and handily located for access to the regional attractions. The underfloor heating and the spacious shower were most welcome.
Fantastic view! Did not want to go home! The Barn was great and very relaxing.
Loved the setting, the accommodation and the welcome from the owner. Plenty of things to do from walking to visiting nearby towns. The accommodation was relaxing and comfortable with beautiful views.
