Location Details

A conservation village, Winster is in the Peak District National Park and makes a charming base for a holiday. It has a 17th Century market house at its centre, and on the three main streets there are many three storey 18th Century houses. Winding through the village are little alleyways, known to the locals as ginnels, which are well worth exploring. Winster has many traditions, Morris Dancers, the Wakes festivities in June, and the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, making this sleepy little village far more vibrant and exciting than many similar sized locations. Walkers and cyclists are well placed for the Tissington Trail and The Limestone way and amenities in the village include a general store, post office and two pubs that serve local food and ales. More shops and facilities can be found in nearby Bakewell and Matlock.

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Reviews

We stayed at the cottage for a week, whilst on a training course in nearby Bakewell. The location is stunning and the cottage very well appointed; as three work colleagues, there’s plenty of personal space; the weather was kind and we made good use of the rear garden area. Cannot fault anything about the stay, wonderful warm welcome, comfortable cottage and stunning location; I’ll definitely look to stay here with the family soon

We have just returned from a week at Nuffies Cottage, my wife and I, Son and Daughter in law and our 15 month grand daughter. Just to say from the start, we could not have been happier with our choice of cottage/location/hosts and luckily the weather. You are staying on a working farm, the cottage faces onto a courtyard shared with another holiday let, a cottage occupied by a family member and of course the home of your hosts Gill and Mick. Due to the slope of the land, all downstairs windows face onto the courtyard, upstairs bedrooms have views of the surrounding countryside. It is well sized even for six people with two double bedrooms and a separate bathroom upstairs, kitchen/dining area and lounge area downstairs with a further twin bedroom and en-suite off this main area.. Apart from yourselves and food, just about everything else is provided, in a separate building is a utility room with washing machine and dryer which you are able to use, and various items such as high chairs/ironing board etc. Location is at the top of a hill [hence Hill Top Farm] just over a mile from the A5012 . Aldwark is a very small group of farms, the nearest pub is the Hollybush Inn which is about 1 mile down hill. Consequently any journeys out for a drink or evening meal would need to be by car unless you are quite fit and mobile. This was not a problem for us as we ate in every evening with our young grand daughter and the kitchen is fully equipped with oven/hob/microwave. All in all, if you are looking for a quiet stay in wonderful surroundings you could do a lot worse than stay with Gill and Mick, sadly even they cannot guarantee the weather but we were more than lucky with our weeks worth of bright sunshine.

We stayed here with our 2 children (12 & 10) and my parents, and had a wonderful time. The cottage is very spacious and the kitchen well-equipped. Our girls loved the twin room with their own en-suite, and the 2 upstairs rooms were spacious and comfortable. The owners, Jill & Mick, were very friendly and made us most welcome. A great bonus is the communal washing machine and tumble dryer - there is something rather nice about coming home from holiday with all your clothes freshly washed and dried! The location (a tiny hamlet on a hill!) is perfect for exploring the Peak District. We especially recommend Dovedale, Carsington Water and the Heights of Abraham, which are all less than 30 mins away. We are already talking about returning next year!

Liked the attentiveness and friendliness of the owners and the space and high comfort standard inside the property. The access from that location to both to countryside and town. It was peaceful and tranquil but also near to the life of an active farm.

A lovely cottage in a great location. We had a wonderful stay and were very impressed with the accommodation and the welcome we received.

Rated by Mr Young reviewed on 30th October 2014

This cottage had everything you could have wanted in a cottage, home from home. warm and cosy if cold and wet, beds were very comfortable, kitchen had all you needed in a kitchen, The owners were on hand if you needed anything and where to find it or to know anything about the area or where to visit. Wifi was an added bonus, so we could use a computer and also keep up with emails and anything else we needed to find out. Also very well maintained. It has an on suite bedroom downstairs for anyone unable to get upstairs, with 3 beds if needed. just one step to go up from parking area outside cottage if going to use the downstairs.. The cottage is a great base to stay, for many activities that in the area, whether it is cycling (cycle higher available near by), walking parts of the Peak district trail and well numbered walks., Go Ape. As well as caves, especially the Blue John caverns, National trust houses, Heights of Abraham, Alton Towers. Plenty to do for young children if it was needed because it was raining. Plenty of places to eat out in Matlock. Pennine way a little further north. lakes to walk round and visit especially lady Bower famous for the filming and practicing of the bouncing bomb. Plus many other things not even mentioned.

The owners were next door and easy to access, approachable and friendly for any questions or advice. We felt this was an excellent price charged for accommodation. The accommodation was well-equipped and we were given extra towels, toilet paper and soap so no need to shop for extra essential items. The property is in a great base location to explore Buxton/ Matlock area and was very peaceful and close to nature. This was a very different experience for the kids who thoroughly enjoyed seeing the farm animals.

Everything about this property was 5 star! Starting right from the directions from the owners! We received a warm welcome, and everything about the cottage was perfect! Very well equipped - even down to picnic equipment, everything you could possibly need. The owners delight in you seeing their farm and watching the milking etc, with the neighbouring farm selling free range eggs, which our children collected themselves! The views from the cottage are amazing and well within travelling distance to loads of the tourist attractions.

As many people this year we decided to "holiday at home" and looked for accommodation for the 6 of us, 2 adults and 4 children. Trying to satisfy all our needs is always a challenge but the Peak District could not have been better. The accommodation was excellent with three very good size double bedrooms 1 with en-suite facilities and the other two sharing a bathroom. Considering we were on a working farm we were not disturbed at all by any early morning milking sessions or general farm activities. In fact this added to the interest, the owners of the farm live in the cottage opposite and were very friendly and welcoming. Two adorable Labradors greeted us every time we ventured outside to head off to one or more of the many attractions the Peak District has to offer. All in all we were not sure what to expect but all of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Nuffies Farm and are very likely to go back again.
