Reviews

Lots of space for a large group to gather together in the kitchen or living room in comfort, whilst having plenty of areas to spread out rather than being on top of each other (9 adults, 4 young children including a baby). The kitchen is extremely well equipped - there was nothing we couldn't find, including a cafetiere. Small, enclosed, lawned garden - great for the dogs and for drying washing (washing line and pegs provided). The floors are beautiful, polished wood so care is needed with small children and dogs - we had several episodes of human and canine splits in the first couple of days. Thank you, Barbara, for your hospitality and providing the perfect venue for a special birthday x

This was our first time staying at the barn and we will definitely be returning! Barbara was very friendly and welcoming, she couldn’t do enough for us. Great location for all the tourist attractions eg Snowdon, Llandudno, Conwy and lots more! The pub was only a short walk away. The Barn was spacious, clean and comfortable, perfect for a large family and dog. Well equipped kitchen with large table to seat the whole family. It was a bonus that all five bedrooms had their own en-suite. Everyone had an enjoyable time. Thank you Barbara x

We stayed here with friends in February and could find no fault. The proprietor, Barbara, went more than the extra mile to ensure our stay was beyond expectations despite the winter weather. We have stayed in many locations but this was superb value

This is the second year we have stayed at this venue with a group of mates. Last year was a bit of a wash out for me as I had to spend a few hours in Bangor A&E having a broken wrist fixed and subsequently had to cut short my stay by one night. This year we booked the other house ‘the Barn’ and this was a pleasant surprise, very modern, nice big kitchen and living room. All of the bedrooms were a good size too. The pub up the road did a smashing meal on Sat night. Barbara the owner was a star, I asked her where the nearest local shop was as we had forgot to bring some butter/marg for breakfast and she shared what she had with us. The facilities are great plenty for a bog party would highly recommend. The pottery is an added bonus.

On arrival this property looks lovely However.... this house needs a deep clean and then regularly a good clean in between guests. The lounge area is bright & spacious but the couches are filthy under the cushions the floors are dirty nothing had been moved and cleaned the kids socks were filthy after walking around. The bunk bed room is very dirty under the bunk bed... lots & lots of dust & dirt and unfortunately this was the case in every bedroom... all the bathrooms were not clean lots of grouting issues the shower heads are rusty just generally uncared for ... the televisions in the bedrooms mostly dont work but to be honest The size of the are not worth having anyway ... the bedside lamps were dirty and if you like to read before going to sleep they were neither use nor ornament. Big issue with the water temperature when we rang to report it we were told we all couldn’t take a shower at the same time so getting up & ready for the day wasn’t great!!! Some off us just had to grin and bear a cold shower so the kids could have the warm ones !!!!!! Overall this property could be fantastic as in great location and the pottery was fabulous the kids really enjoyed that .... such a shame about the overall cleanliness.... we only stayed for 3 nights so reporting the issues we had could never of been resolved within this time limit. The owner Barbara was a bice lady the welsh cakes flowers milk & tea were a lovely touch on arrival but personally I would of forgone this welcome to have stayed in a clean house sorry but unless the issues above were rectified we most definitely won’t return

Upon arriving things looked fantastic but once we settled in we noticed a few issues. Living room 1. The setters in the lounge were so flat that the owner has stuffed thick mad boards underneath which makes the setters ridiculously uncomfortable. 2. The dirt under the setters was disgusting clearly never been moved. 3. The sky did not work and no instructions left. 4. There is a water stain in the living room next to the sky light i noticed this was reported in 2013 but has still not been resolved. Downstairs bedrooms 1. The bedding was so filthy we had to strip the beds on the first night. 2. The amount of dirt on the floors and under draws was disgusting. 3. The bathroom in the downstairs double was so badly moulded on the ceiling above the shower i dont know how the ceiling is still up. Bedrooms upstairs 1. The bathroom in the bedroom above the living room area are full of extreme mould. 2. The large bedroom the ensuite was filthy. 3. The two sofa beds were at breaking point and one actually collapsed. 4. The cot upstairs is unfit for any child out of the 11 women that went we are 10 are parents and would never put our children in it. Kitchen 1. Cupboards are literally falling off their hinges 2. Fridges were filthy 3. Draws were falling off their runners. 4. Glassware chipped excessively From pictures and past reviews you would think this house was rectified all looks well on the outside. Unfortunately we will not be returning and will be asking for our money back. We will also be reporting the disgusting and hazardous conditions of this house.

Unfortunately the property was filthy! There were cobwebs and spiders attaching lamps to walls and ceilings in all rooms. It clearly hadn't been swept or hoovered as he floor was covered in dark grey dog hair. The upstairs bathroom adjoining the bedroom with sofa bed leaked into the lounge rendering it unusable.. this was reported on trip advisor in 2014 but was still doing this last week! The bathrooms and showers especially had hair and mould in them and the bedding was awful. The duvets didn't fit the duvet covers so they were continually becoming tangled. The property was advertised as having wifi which it did but this was shared with the adjoining pottery business meaning it was inaccessible. There was no information at all in the property regarding the local area, property details or comments/guest book from previous visitors. The house was also situated on an extrealmy busy and noisy road which is not stated in the details. We are very disappointed and feel for the money we paid not even basic cleanliness expectations were met.

A group of 10 female friends had the barn for the weekend and we had a marvelous time. We were welcomed with welsh cakes an bara brith, tea coffee and fresh flowers! The barn is laid out well with plenty of places for wet coats, walking boots and a comfortable lounge for a large group. We really enjoyed our stay, thank you very much.

14 of us congregated to celebrate my mum's 60th. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The barn was perfect for us: tons of space, well equipped and a great location between Llanberis for Snowdon and Canaerfon for castles and cream teas :) However, what really made our stay was our host, Barbara. Thank you Barbara for being so kind, thoughtful and funny! Our kids adored you...and the rest of us thought you're pretty great too. Barbara runs the barn, farmhouse, livery and a wonderful pottery cafe 'Piggery Pottery'...as well as painting really beautiful and distinctive paintings in her 'spare time'! We had great fun throwing a pot on Barbara's potter's wheel, and also painting keepsakes which will be a lovely reminder of a perfect holiday. This was such an unexpected bonus when our Great British weather wasn't so great. Can't recommend this highly enough for families and big groups.

Stayed here for my 60th birthday celebrations with my husband, children and grandchildren. We had a fantastic time - the barn was amazing, really spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Tea, coffee, milk, sugar, bara brith and welsh cakes were provided on arrival (a lovely touch) and, as soon as I met Barbara, the owner, I knew we had come to a very special place. Nothing was too much trouble and being able to go into Piggery Pottery for an evening, once it was closed to the public, was absolutely brilliant! All of us came away with something special we had made. We would definitely come back to stay here - a truly amazing holiday. Thank you Barbara!

We had a fantastic time. The property is excellent and the pictures don't do justice to the size of the rooms. The owner is lovely and the property is in a great location, close to lots of attractions in North Wales. We would definitely book again.

Rated by Mrs Hayes reviewed on 23rd February 2016

Spacious accommodation, generally furnished to a high standard, and boasting an extremely well equipped (huge) kitchen. Some very minor issues e.g. some missing remotes for bedroom TVs, slightly tired bedding, but picking holes really. Have rarely stayed in such a beautiful rental. Beds are memory foam and extremely comfortable, some traffic noise on weekday mornings but you quickly acclimatise. Great location, and only a couple of minutes walk to the pub! Piggery pottery next door is a delightful bonus on rainy days, and the owner has been very helpful, accommodating and easy to contact. Would definitely stay again - at off-peak rates this is an exceptional bargain.

I would recommend the property for large parties and families of mixed ages and abilities . Its very spacious and all rooms having an ensuite is a real bonus. The large dinning table was great for meal times too. The location is an excellent base for exploring using your own transport. Barbara was very hospitable and was there only when needed.

Plenty of space for the family to be together but still have own space if they wanted it. Location was excellent with plenty on offer in the surrounding area. Friendliness of the owner who was more than willing to accommodate our requests, eg grandchildren visiting animals on farm. Great idea having pottery available as well. Children had great time painting pigs!

A very well appointed barn conversion, ideal for our extended family of 9 giving both space and comfort with a great separation of eating from relaxing and sleeping; stars were master bedroom and lounge. The bonuses were a pottery for the kids (and adults!) to test their skills and a walk to a lovely river across fields. The owner was friendly and very helpful immediately sorting out any little problems. Ideal location for easy access to mountains, beaches, castles and railways. Excellent value for money

Rated by Mrs Foster reviewed on 3rd June 2013

We stayed here last October 2012 with 3 other couples . The Barn is well equipped , spacious and with some good quality furniture but it was not clean throughout and did not appear to have been maintained well . Cheap/worn bed linen with particle foam pillows, throw overs on the settees , some dirty equipment, and other shortcomings added to our view that the rating as “excellent” is inaccurate. The mountain views to the front as stated in the brochure do exist but only from the upstairs bedrooms. We felt sufficiently disenchanted that we cancelled a second booking that we had already made for a family reunion at Easter 2013 . It took several months and the issue of court proceedings to get a full refund of the deposit . We and our friends travel a lot and our overriding concern is that of cleanliness combined with a 4 or 5 star quality standard. This is advertised as a 4 * property with the appropriate 4* price but it is not in our view 4 * value.

Rated by Mr Cowell reviewed on 7th January 2013

We visited for a family weekend away where we celebrated my 30th birthday. We rented Ddol Helyg farm house also as we had a large party of 20 people ranging from age 6 to 83! We also took our dogs which the house was great for, with wooden heated floors throughout! This accommodation was modern and had all the facilities and everything we needed. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, bowls, cups serving dishes and abled us to cook a roast dinner for all of the party. The lounge was very spacious and great that everyone could get a seat while relaxing round the wood burner and playing games with the children. The house catered for everything and having a ground floor double bedroom with en-suite was great for a relative who had a broken ankle and couldn't make the stairs! Overall this is an amazing modern house in a great location and I would definitely not hesitate to recommend it to families. The owner Barbara was very friendly and allowed us to stay in piggery pottery after closing where all the family(adults included) painted pots and other pottery! I hope we can visit again sometime. Please see my review on the Ddol Helyg Farm House if you have a large party.

Rated by Mr Thompson reviewed on 21st October 2012

We've just returned from a weeks stay at Ddol Helyg and it was a great week. The property is great for large groups and large families, it is based in Llanrug which we found ideal for days out to Anglesey, Caernarfon, Llanberis, Portmerion and Llandudno. There is only really one pub within walking distance and we were not too impressed with the quality or price of the food, but there are loads of good places around such as the Newborough Inn which was only 6 minutes drive away and was amazing. The house itself is great, the kitchen is ideal for large groups, there is a dishwasher and utility room for washing etc... One of the bedrooms, the largest with the jacuzzi bath and shower is over the kitchen and heating, as a result it gets really really warm and is slightly cut off from the rest of the house, but people with babies might quite like this. The rest of the rooms are next to or over the living room, we did find the main bedroom, and the bunk room and twin room (over the bunk room/next to the main room) were really warm - they seemed to have the underfloor heating and were slightly stifling - you can't change this yourself but ask Barbara and she will try to help. The remaining two rooms were colder but we liked this. There is limited wi-fi reception and TV - but you are in Wales on holiday so do you really need this. I actually enjoyed not having access to facebook and emails. My only criticism apart from the heating which can be resolved was the bathrooms were grubby, we had to clean the showers and bath before we'd use them. Whilst it is pet friendly there are limitations, there are horses so the dogs have to be on their leads, the back garden is small - fine for one small dog but that is it, there was also a lot of bird feathers which had to be cleaned constantly - really it could have been cleaned up to be better, also the dog is not allowed to be left in the house alone or on the furniture. The highlight is the pottery which Barbara owns, she is really helpful and is happy for you to go in at night when it is closed and take a bottle of wine and paint a pot - its about £9-11 including the £1 charge to paint it there - but its worth it. I painted two piggy money banks and it was great fun for everyone. We will definately be going back again

On arrival we thought the barn was fantastic it is beautiful the owners should be proud, but unfortunatley the cleanliness was not what it should be.the two cookers and microwave were not clean and we found dishes in the cupboard dirty which was a real shame to say the least.also on top of that there were two seperate occasions where 6 of us had to finish our shower in cold water because the hot had run out.it is a lovely place though and very spacious.. but to improve it the owners should check it over when the cleaners are done
