Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
The cottage itself is gorgeous and so comfortable with everything you could need. The underfloor heating keeps everyone toasty while you relax. The owners Chris and Trish are fantastic and assisted us with navigating the local area and made sure we were happy and didn't need anything with a warm welcome. We would love to return in the summer and see the area in bloom and our little dog had a blast. Just a small note that Chris tried to tell us about but we made a mistake! If you are arriving from J38 of the M6 do not follow your sat nav when it tells you to turn left onto Regional Rte 72 towards Waitby and Smardale as you will be on single-track road for a few miles with very few places to pull in if there is a vehicle coming the other way. Instead, follow the road until you reach Kirby Stephen and turn left at the mini roundabout, and follow the sat nav from there. It wasn't a fun drive. Thank you again so much and we hope to return very soon.
This beautiful cottage is ideally situated between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The house is tastefully decorated, the kitchen is fully equipped and the bedding ultra comfortable. There is an incredible collection of tastefully selected DVDs to enjoy in the evenings. We were welcomed by Trisha who was lovely. We would recommend this cottage for a stay in the Lake District!
Stayed for a week in this beautiful and well appointed cottage and had an absolutely great stay in every way. Each of the 4 rooms are clean and decorated in a modern way and it is really cosy with great views across local fields and to the hills. The kitchen has stone floors but as all rooms are equipped with underfloor heating it is a great place to cook and eat. Well equipped it has everything you could ask for for a really comfortable stay including clothes washer and dryer. The sitting room is the main room and has a large table and sofas. It also comes with a good range of books, DVD's and CDs. The bedroom has a large twin bed that is pushed together. it is slightly cooler than the other rooms but this was most welcome. The bathroom is small and well decorated. Outside to the rear is a small private and enclosed yard with seating and table. You also have access to the larger grassed garden but we did not need this. With parking at the front the cottage is in a beautiful area that provides great access to the Dales, Lakes and Scottish borders. We had one problem with the toilet ( that was our fault) and this was repaired within hours.
The Cottage was the perfect place for a quiet, simple break from city life. It was idyllically located, well equipped and comfortable. The owners were incredibly helpful and the surrounding area was beautiful. We would love to go back!
Cherry Tree was really peaceful and out of the way yet a short drive away from the town and Lake Windermere. The owners were extremely friendly, the house was spotless and we couldn't have asked for any better.
Welcoming greeting just after arrival, easy to find after speaking to the owner. General décor of the cottage is lovely, very spacious! Underfloor heating, easily controllable and affective when needed. Amenities more than satisfactory. the cleanliness of the cottage was spotless. Perfect stay.
The cottage was cosy and relaxing, the sofas were very comfortable. Well situated for all areas.
Brilliant cottage, very spacious for a one bed. Warm and cozy, nice unobtrusive hosts. Great value and well equipped/ furnished for the money. The cottage is in a quiet rural location , a central base for exploring the Cumbrian Lakes, Yorkshire and Durham dales. Car essential.
Fantastic cottage in a great location to explore the Lakes and Dales. Had friendly yet unobtrusive hosts. A cute cottage which was very good value for money.
My partner booked the cottage through Sykes. It was advertised as pet friendly so we checked that we could take our cat. Following confirmation that this was fine, we packed ourselves and our cat up, and were merrily on our way. The cottage is situated just outside the hamlet of Soulby, near Kirkby Stephen. The owner gave us directions otherwise we may have not found it ourselves. The location provides an easy starting point for getting to Keswick and Penrith. Cherry Tree Cottage was simply gorgeous. The décor is tasteful and in keeping with the style of the cottage. Tea, coffee, sugar etc, and towels were provided. As was a bottle of wine for when we arrived and fresh milk. Lovely touches. It has underfloor heating, and extra bedding/throws. Even though we went in February, we didn't go cold. There is a vast number of maps and leaflets to peruse, which we made use of. Parking permits are also available for Cumbrian Council parking zones. For cosy nights in, there are numerous DVDs and videos to choose from, as well as Freeview TV. There is also an array of reading material, and an eclectic mix of music albums to listen to on the stereo. There is no Wi-Fi or internet access, that I knew of at least, but neither of us missed it. We wanted for nothing, and the cat enjoyed the trip too! A*
In a wonderful location and well decorated and presented. It was a beautiful little cottage with character and charm. Kirkby Stephen nearby was very convenient and had all necessary amenities. We will definitely visit again!
Cherry Tree Cottage was totally right for our requirements of a stress free ,relaxing holiday . The cottage is ideally placed between the Dales and the Lakes and the owner is a really nice guy . Superb .
Very warm welcome by the Owner. Nice quiet surroundings and peaceful - well situated for both the Lakes and the Dales.
Cherry Tree is a lovely cottage. The peaceful location and amazing views made this a fantastic few days. We will definitely book again.
Very nice cottage, would go back again, helpful owner would recommend this cottage to friends
The cottage was in excellent condition. Very warm and comfortable, the location was perfect for us as we have a dog and were able to go for idyllic walks. The outside space was ideal. We would love to visit there again and would recommend it to friends and family.
Peaceful, beautiful surroundings. The owners were very welcoming. A bottle of wine and a jug of fresh milk was left in the cottage for us and lots of tourist information, books, cd's and films..
The peace and quiet was just relaxing. The owners couldn't be more hospitable. Overall lovely; just what we needed!
The owners were great, being there if needed but otherwise unobtrusive. The cottage was nice and warm and cosy, so good in bad weather. We loved the area where the cottage was situated, as it was peaceful and scenic.
Very friendly owners without being overbearing - Trish's baking is to die for. The accommodation was very spacious and comfortable. It is in an ideal loaction to visit Cumbria and Yorkshire especially the Settle - Carlisle railway. We will be back soon as we found it very hard to leave.
The cottage is absolutely fantastic. A very high standard. It truly made our holiday. Hope to return one day.
The owners were very pleasant. Eggs/milk/wine were waiting for us. They just let you get on with your holiday. A five star plus rating (excellent). The garden is enclosed, and perfect for children and dogs. The birds in the garden eating the nuts were lovely, also a woodpecker was eating the nuts, as well no sign of red squirrel, and yes the chickens like digestive biscuits.
The cottage is lovely, and the owner was friendly and helpful. It was furnished comfortably and was very clean and inviting. The welcome tray was fine, if you drink- which I don't, but I did enjoy the endless supply of eggs. There were books and magazines, so that I was never short of something to read, The countryside is lovely, and well worth looking at, and the local towns had interesting shops and cafes. The weather was fine, and not over-warm, but it didn't matter much as there was plenty to do indoors if necessary. There is a lovely little church in Soulby where I shared the service with people I had known a good number of years ago.The only thing that was disappointing was the lack of garden centres and antique shops, which I particularly like, but that had absolutely nothing to do with the cottage or its amenities.
Very good in all parts.
Our stay at Cherry Tree Cottage could not have been better. The cottage is everything we wanted, the surrounding areas are beautiful with plenty to see and do. The biggest compliment I can make is that we were gutted to be leaving but we will be booking up to go again.
Cottage was excellent. Comfortable and cosy. Easy to visit places. Superb.
It was a relaxing break and a warm, cosy place to stay.
It was so peaceful and in beautiful surroundings, they were breathtaking. I didn't want to leave. The stars at night were awesome, just magical. I could go on forever about how much we enjoyed the stay.
The cottage is warm, spacious and well-presented. It has everything you could possibly need for a great holiday - stunning views, lots of wildlife, a well-equipped kitchen, a comfy bed and one of the best collections of Dvds and books we have come across. What's more, the location is second to none - on one hand you have the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, on the other there is the stunning Lake District. We also found a number of lovely local walks in and around Kirkby Stephen. In short, a walker's paradise! We will be back soon.
Received a very warm welcome from the owners, even provided freshly laid eggs, jug of milk and bottle of wine. Lovely cottage that was very cosy especially when the temperature outside dropped! Amazing views and great location.
Scenic peaceful location. Very friendly welcoming owners who gave us milk, cake and eggs. Comfortable lounge with view of the garden that was constantly filled with hens and wild birds.
The cottage is well appointed, comfortable and in a very quiet location, yet close enough to Kirkby Stephen for any shopping requirements. It's also well located for trips east into the Dales and west into the Northern Lakes.
Cherry Tree Cottage is in a good, peaceful location with easy access to the Lakes and Dales. There was ample parking and the owners were there to greet us as we arrived. There were some nice extra touches, which were very much appreciated. The cottage is very spacious and well furnished, as well as very well lit and heated. There was a good selection of books, DVDs and CDs, as well as a few board games. All in all, a great holiday home!
Secluded and quiet, but still well located for day trips to both the Dales and the Lakes.
Overall this property was cosy, warm and clean. Fab wild birds. Would be great for walkers and twitters!
Excellent location for walking and very helpful and friendly but not intrusive hosts. We would highly recommend this cottage.
Great location for Lakes & Dales.
A relaxing and tranquil setting with lovely hosts.
Cherry Tree cottage is very welcoming and homely with everything you need and more. We have returned four times we love it so much.
Lovely cottage in a great location and the owners where brilliant and so helpful. The pictures on the website don't do the cottage justice.
The cottage was very comfortable and cosy. It was a lovely surprise to find such a lovely supply of tea, coffee, sugar and a large jug of milk, also a bottle of wine. We loved watching the woodpecker feeding.
This is probably the best cottage we have ever stayed in. Clean, comfy and a warm welcome upon arrival. It was home-from-home.
Cherry Tree Cottage is in a peaceful and beautiful location, ideally situated for all tourist sites. The cottage was comfortable, a home from home. We would book again!
The location was excellent and a place where you can truly relax. The cooker was brilliant.
Excellent cottage, spotlessly clean. Perfect hosts with good knowledge of area, walks, places to visit.
Cherry Tree Cottage is a delightfully peaceful place with pleasant, timeless views across fields and a stream. Good walking area. The cottage is immaculately clean, tastefully decorated and very comfortable. We have been back three times.
Stayed with my mum and boxer dog. The cottage had everything you needed to unwind and relax including stunning views, amazingly prolific birdlife, clear starlit skys a cosy welcoming environment. Kirkby Stephen a short drive away is great for walking and exploring.
Our holiday was amazing! Cherry Tree Cottage (everything about it) only added to the overall good experience. I would, without hesitation, recommend the Lake District and Cherry Tree Cottage for a short weekend getaway. Thank you!
Relaxing welcoming, warm and homely feel. Stunning scenery, a wildlife haven.
The owners are friendly and welcoming without being intrusive. The web pictures do not do it justice, it is spacious, comfortable and in a beautiful location. It is in easy reach of the lakes and easy drives into West Yorkshire. There is a good choice of pubs and restaurants within a few miles. Very impressed with our stay. The dog enjoyed it too.
It was very quiet and peaceful in a lovely location.
It was spotless and the owners made us feel very welcome.
The owners were very pleasant, welcoming and helpful. The cottage exceeded our expectations it was spacious, comfortable and warm. It really was quiet and peaceful.
The location of the cottage, the warm welcome we got and that we were able to take the dog.
Excellent location as a base to tour the Dales and the Lake District. Plenty of quality reading, a cottage with books on motor bikes, canals and railways is perfect for a fanatic like myself, especially as the Settle to Carlisle Railway is a short bike ride away. Honestly the best UK holiday that we've had!
A gorgeous secluded cottage with beautiful surroundings. A very warm welcome received.
Even took our cat. best place we have ever stayed atm and attitude first class. thoroughly nice genuine people with a cottage that reflects their good taste, and comprehensive knowledge of what any visitor could possibly require. faultless.
This is a superb cottage in beautiful, peaceful countryside but only 3 miles from the lovely town of Kirkby Stephen.
The cottage was perfect throughout. Garden was well planned. Very comfortable. The owners were very helpful, very friendly and very caring.
Liked the cottage very much, the location to the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. The good weather was an added bonus.
I would recommend Cherry cottage to all my family and friends. Having been out for the day it was just like going home, so cosy and very comfortable. There was not one thing I would change.
A lovely, clean, well equiped, warm and cosy cottage with all of the basic essentials provided; this included a jug of milk and a bottle of wine. The cottage was within easy reach of the main roads making it simple to explore the local area or to travel further afield to the lakes, which were less than an hour away. The cottage was a calm oasis surrounded by fields full of sheep with their lambs gamboling, Ospreys and many other birds could be seen flying, and the bird feeder in the garden provided hours of entertainment; finches, tits, field mice and Great Spotted Woodpeckers were regular visitors.
Superb hosts - best place we have ever stayed - perfect break. Thanks for your own efficiency also.
A lovely cottage just to relax in, surrounded by quiet countryside and do nothing. Very well placed for visiting many places in the north of England, including the Lake District.
Deceptively spacious accommodation in very peaceful surroundings. Very well kept and stocked - a home from home.
The property is well located for travelling and exploring the Lake District.
Excellent location for exploring Cumbria. Very cosy and well maintained cottage. Friendly owners, lovely bottle of wine to welcome us. Will most definitely return!
Peace and quiet in the countryside and easy access to the Lake District.
The location. As this was in a remote place, we were able to relax in peace and quiet. Although remote; it is located within easy reach, by good roads, of The Lake District and The North Yorkshire Moors. We very much appreciated the bottle of wine and jug of milk in the fridge on arrival. We were made very welcome by our hosts, and their general knowledge of the area was useful when planning days out. We have already recommended Cherry Cottage to our friends and would like to visit again.
It was the most peaceful and relaxing place to be and the owners were extremely good hosts and very thoughtful.
It was very quiet and peaceful which was just what we needed at this particular time. The accommodation was the best that we have ever stayed in. The owner and his family were very friendly and helpful.
The scenery is to die for as is the peace and quiet.
It was so nice to sit at the front of the property and hear nothing but the cows, sheep and maybe the odd vehicle, and to see the local wildlife, but the thing that did it for us was the scenery - out of this world.
Very pretty area of this country, and perfect for walking or touring in other adjoining areas. Very comfortable in every way.
The best cottage I have stayed in by far.
Excellent accommodation, beautiful surroundings and genuine hospitality from the owners. One of the nicest places where we have stayed.
Peace, quiet and the view from the front door. Location meant it was accessible from all points of the compass. Convenience for getting about to the main centres and for the Settle / Carlisle Railway station at Kirkby Stephen.
It was a dream to come to, it was very clean and tidy and it was so nice to be welcomed with a cup of tea and coffee. Also a nice touch was the "bottle of wine". Lovely secluded garden. A good base for touring Yorksire Dales and The Lake District.
The hosts were very good. We got a nice bottle of wine on arrival which was a very nice touch, and nothing was too much trouble. The scenery was breathtaking, everything about this holiday was perfect and we will certainly go there again. Full marks in my book.
Location was great - very quiet and rural with plenty of natural wildlife and countryside. In particular the owners obviously made an effort to make the cottage comfortable and relaxing.
The cottage was fantastic, very cosy and a relaxing environment. The owner was very friendly and gave a lovely welcome. The cottage was well positioned to get all over the lake district and into the Yorkshire Dales
Was the ideal place to get away from it all. Beautiful cottage in gorgeous surroundings. Lovely owners. Would love to come back.
The cottage was excellent. Combined with the beautiful surroundings, this made for a wonderfully relaxing break.
Relaxing and very peaceful. The owners were friendly and very nice. Lots of nice scenery.
Cottage was extremely comfortable and warm. Location was excellent. Facilities for dogs were very good. Proprietors very welcoming and helpful which greatly added to the enjoyment of the holiday.
My wife and I had a wonderful holiday. The cottage was a joy to stay in, the setting and location were superb, with the added bonus of a couple of wood peckers making daily visits to the garden. I am sure we will be returning next year. Thankyou.
Cottage was very comfortable. Disability access was good. Gardens large and well kept all through.
Everything we needed was provided. It was a lovely quiet cottage with nice views and a helpful owner.
Quiet, relaxing place, with plenty of bird life.
It was so nice to be away from the stresses and strains of everyday life. The owners of the cottage were very nice and made us feel very welcome without being over the top.
Very peaceful place just ideal for a relaxing break.
