Well placed for visiting all that the Dales has to offer, the town of Skipton is also close to York, the Lake District and the West Coast. This lovely market town has plenty to offer visitors and boasts an ancient castle open to the public, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market occupying the cobbled setts on either side of the high street. Visitors can enjoy a canal trip on a traditional barge or visit the Embsay Steam Railway, which offers regular steam train excursions throughout the weekend and is just a mile away. Golf, swimming, squash, tennis and snooker are all available close by and the region is known for its effective public transport.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Holiday ruined. Several of us ( party of 7) got bitten by either bugs or fleas. This became a serious issue towards dnd of week when I was covered in bites. The whole place needs professional treatment. Would not advise anyone to go stay there until this issue is sorted.

Craven House Pros Easy walking distance to Skipton town centre. Good bus and train services from Skipton giving access to excellent walking in North Yorkshire. Supermarket around the corner. Lots of things to see and do in and around the area. Craven House Cons Directly onto a busy and noisy road. On road parking free 24/7 but spaces can be hard to come by. Front ‘garden’ suffers from traffic fumes and noise, also not enough room for everyone to sit together anyway. Just two benches and one seemed a bit iffy looking at the way the seat flexed. Back courtyard enclosed by high walls but enough seating for everyone. Craven House needs a good dose of TLC fresh paint, modern carpets etc. Unhygienic rugs in bathroom – yuk – and mouldy shower base mastic on top floor. Top floor double – wet carpet (had to leave window open all day for several days and use hairdryer) damp, musty smell. It also has a narrow wardrobe which will only allow clothes to be hung sideways. One bedroom on the second floor has NO wardrobe – either live out of your case or hang everything on the door!!! Kitchen needs sorting out. It is supposedly well equipped but – Only one sharp knife. Toaster will only toast 2 slices at a time as other slots are broken. Except for dinner plates there is not enough of the same crockery or wine glasses for 14. Chipped bowls and side plates are not pretty. Greasy oven trays – why? Dirty, in fact filthy, bread knife – the toothed edge was totally clogged. A mish mash of unnecessary and unusable glassware. Ancient tv which has ‘buzzy’ audio. I would post photographs if allowed to.

We had a family gathering of 13 adults and 3 babies in this large, very warm and quiet house conveniently situated in Skipton. It is well equipped and has a huge dining table which seats everyone. Beds are comfortable although the doubles are standard not king size, some ensuite rooms with baths. Well stocked kitchen with aga and dishwasher, loads of crockery and glasses; all is very clean. The house is close to the canal, shops and market and the castle. Lots to do in Skipton.

I liked the feel of the house, it was clean, welcoming and had a nice ambience. It had every convenience necessary and it was obvious that the owners wanted to make sure that the customer had the best experience possible in their house.

Stayed here Friday to Monday for a girls weekend of socialising, shopping and sightseeing. Can't praise it highly enough. Huge living and dining rooms, easily accomodating 11 of us. Clean, spacious and welcomed by the very helpful owner. Beds comfortable and clean. Will definitely use it again. Not much outside space but that didn't affect us at this time of year. we had a great time.

Rated by Mrs Murphy reviewed on 11th November 2014

From the minute we opened the door we knew we had made the right choice. We were meeting up with family from New Zealand and wanted somewhere to have a family get together. The house was roomy and there was plenty of space for people to disappear if they wanted to be on there own. I loved the big family kitchen and the Aga was perfect, especially as I had about 25 people for lunch on the Sunday. The location was ideal and we were only a few minutes walk from Skipton and as parking was a bit of a problem, we tended to leave the car where it was. The location was also ideal to do the touristy bit, and we went to Leeds, York, Bolton Abbey, Billy Bobs Diner and in to Bradford to visit family. I have never felt that I could settle back in Yorkshire and have been away for 17 years, but staying here made me rethink. If I won the lottery tomorrow, I would definitely be making an offer to buy :-)

Lots of space which was great for our family gathering. The back garden was secluded with a BBQ and a wheelchair came in handy for my mother. My wife loved the AGA and we ate some lovely meals. The location of the property was great with a Tesco over the road and only a five minute walk to the centre of Skipton.

We wanted to celebrate a special birthday to include several generations of the family under one roof. Craven House fitted the bill superbly with ample bedrooms, bathrooms, large comfortable lounge and dining room, all furnished to a high standard. The kitchen was huge and excellently kitted out with all the equipment you could need. The location was ideally close to the town especially for those who did not want to walk far. A great variety of nearby attractions suited all age levels and tastes. All this and a warm friendly welcome. Who could want for more?

We found this a lovely, warm, welcoming holiday home. The owner was very pleasant and helpful and we had a great weekend. There was also lots to do for ourselves and the kids in Skipton.

Rated by Mrs Santana reviewed on 25th March 2014

This is a large, well furnished, comfortable house with an excellent location with a five minute stroll to the town centre and even less to the supermarkets. Plenty of space for a larger group of people to spread themselves around in, and very well equipped. We spent a week in Craven House and would recommend it to any larger group or family that enjoys spending time in these types of properties.

This is a large, well furnished, comfortable house with an excellent location with a five minute stroll to the town centre and even less to the supermarkets. Plenty of pace for a larger group of people to spread themselves around in, and very well equipped. We spent a week in Craven House and would recommend it to any larger group or family that enjoys spending time in these types of properties. The town of Skipton was surprisingly good and interesting enough to spend plenty of time looking around, and doing this more than once. We enjoyed our visit to Skipton Castle, and Howarth, Bolton Abbey and Settle made interesting half day trips within a comfortable 30 minute drive. Nothing we could find that could be criticized directly, but perhaps king sized double beds and showers rather than baths in some of the bathrooms would be better suited for some people, but that’s all we could think of, and this shouldn’t put anyone off booking Craven House. The property and Skipton are a delight.

There was sufficient space for our growing family of 14 ranging from 6 to 64 to eat together, relax together or go and hide to be on your own. It's a comfortable place for all of us, illustrated by the fact that this was the 4th time we had all stayed, and won't be the last.

Rated by Mrs Fixter reviewed on 30th August 2013

Just come back from a week at Craven House. 14 family members aged 6 - 72. The bedrooms and bathrooms are beautiful, lounge and dining room are homely and big enough to fit us all in and the kitchen provided a great space to prepare meals, we even managed to use the Aga instead of the gas oven. The location of Craven house is perfect, walking distance into Skipton and short drives to some amazing places, (kids loved Ilkley Lido) . Although the house is right near a big Tescos it was still lovely to find the cupboard full of left over essentials. This is a massive bonus and doesn't always happen when we go on our annual family week away. There is a small courtyard but the kids found the swingball and played it anytime we were home, they didn't once complain about the lack of grass. We would all definitely recommend this house.

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at Craven House which was an ideal venue to celebrate our Golden wedding anniversary. The property is ideally situated near the centre of Skipton and all it's amenities and is a property large enough to accommodate families and groups. The children loved the downstairs 'den' and there was plenty of space for them to play without getting under everyone's feet. The house has a warm and welcoming feel to it and we felt it represented good value for money and would certainly book it again if we were looking for a large property to rent.

Rated by Mr Fanshawe reviewed on 11th August 2012

We stayed in Craven House from Friday to Monday with a group of friends, we visit different towns twice a year (children free) - we went in October 2011. We found the house lovely and spacious, clean and comfortable. The lady who met us there was lovely and friendly too. We always draw for the rooms to make it fair, and me and the Hubby got the box room (we think it would have been the linen room at one time as the door opens outwards onto the landing and is very small), this wasn't too much of a problem apart from the fact there wasn't enough space for a wardrobe (just a set of drawers) so our clothes were hung on the back of the door, a bit of a pain if you are staying longer than the weekend. The house is so close to the centre of town, which is lovely (please eat at The Woolly Sheep - amazing food) and although on a main road, it was fairly quiet at night, and there are roads surrounding the property to park on - we had 5 cars between us and no-one had a problem - although it was October. We would definitely stay here again, and would recommend it to anyone.

Rated by Mrs Douglas reviewed on 24th March 2012

This is a good house in a great location, everything on the doorstep for Skipton, and Skipton is a great base. Only problem really was that one of the bedrooms didn't have a wardrobe so guests had to live of coathangers on the back of the door for a week, not on really!

Rated by Mr Lloyd reviewed on 29th August 2011

The house was lovely and had everything we needed. Although there were 14 of us we didn't get under each others feet and there was space for the children to play too. The location was ideal being central for lots of outings and necessary shops, pubs, chemist etc were all nearby.

Rated by Mrs King reviewed on 6th July 2011

A group of family and friends with 3 small children, we found Craven House to have everything we needed. Plenty of bathrooms and ensuites, large well-equipped kitchen with aga. The house was well heated. In a good position for most things - Tesco literally round the corner, and the centre of Skipton an easy walk. Lovely park for the children within walking distance. Excellent pub for meals on the roundabout on the Keighly Road. Downside of going in March was nearby children's farms weren't open till april. Railway also restricted times then.

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 11th May 2011

Great house, big and clean, a short walk from the middle of skipton, and round the corner from a large supermarket. fronts onto a busy road, which would probably make parking outside difficult at busy times, but we went in march, and had no problems. Plenty of pubs and places to eat within a short walk, with the villages and walks of the yorkshire dales a short drive out of skipton.
