Great cottage, really well equipped and comfortable, lovely setting within easy drive to lots of attractions. The week went far too quickly!

We were looking for a quiet location with beautiful views, a fire and much needed time away together to relax, we got that and so much more. We couldn't highly recommend Stone Mouse Cottage enough, we will definitely be coming back.

Rated by Stacey A reviewed on 12th April 2017

We realised after booking our latest break at the Stone Mouse Cottage, that we'd visited on the same week every time for 3 years! The cottage looks just as beautiful as it did three - and four - years ago. The welcome was just as warm - and the scones just as delicious! This time we had our 2.5 year old daughter in tow. I was a little worried it would be too quiet for her after getting used to Center Parcs, but she was certain this was the 'prettiest holiday house ever' (although she did ask where the pool was!!). It turns out all toddlers need is a window seat to stare at passing sheep, the farm tractor, and the resident Collie's. The marble game provided was also a hit (heavily supervised!) and meant she didn't even ask to watch Peppa once (I'm sure anyone with toddlers will realise what a relief this was). All days out require a drive but there's plenty of child-friendly activities/restaurants within 30-45 minutes, even though it rained all weekend. Particular rainy day recommendations are: Paint Pot, Clitheroe; Shackleton's Garden Centre; and the Bolton Abbey railway. Thanks again Janet and Danny for another wonderful, relaxing stay :)

Stone Mouse Cottage is a beautifully furnished, well equipped, spacious, spotlessly clean property and we loved it. It isn't easy to find adjectives which have not been used already to describe the cottage - so I will be boring and say it is just as 'special' as other reviewers have said. Nothing can be faulted - the beds are so comfortable, the bedding is luxurious, the towels are white and fluffy and the selection of toiletries is a very nice touch. The lounge has large settees, a fabulous stone fireplace and a great kitchen/dining area with everything you could need. The large sliding glass doors opening onto a pretty decked and garden area make the most of the lovely views. The owners are so helpful and go that extra mile to ensure that everything is just right to give the guests a perfect holiday experience. A welcome pack of home-made scones (with cream and jam) and a bottle of wine were extremely well received and the fresh flowers were lovely. Would we go back again - you bet! We just loved the location, remote, quiet and beautiful.

Beautiful accommodation in a beautiful location.

Rated by Mrs Burton reviewed on 18th June 2016

We loved it all, it was a real home from home, the whole property inside and out was excellent. We would have no hesitation in returning or recommending it to our family & friends. It was also very dog friendly, but equally ideal for dog free visitors.

Rated by Mrs Lacey reviewed on 23rd April 2016

The welcome was superb, and the view from the main lounge windows was great; really enabled us to relax and enjoy the peace, calm and wildlife. We didn't realise what a superb base this makes for a holiday either in the Forest of Bowland or the Yorkshire Dales, both of which are just short journeys away. The layout of the cottage was ideal for our needs.

Rated by Mr Holleran reviewed on 2nd April 2016

This was the most beautiful cottage to come and spend the week in. Everything was very clean, comfortable and attractive and the owners had thought of everything you might need on a week away and left it to hand (including a fantastic set of notes on what and where to do things in the area). It was more than suitable for our dog and baby, which is great as properties often suit one or another. The views and peace in the area were also wonderful!

Rated by Mrs Campbell reviewed on 28th November 2015

The cottage is beautiful and in a perfect peaceful location with wonderful views. This is a place in which you can truly relax and unwind. The owners are so friendly and welcoming and have made sure that you have everything you need to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. It's a very hard place to leave behind!

.... we would just like to reaffirm what other reviewers have commented. Best rental accommodation we've had, anywhere. Instead of repeating what's already been said, some local information; > Lots of pubs serving good food in surrounding villages like Slaidburn, Grindleton, West Bradford and Waddington. > Short distance to Clitheroe, a delightful little town with interesting shops, Norman castle and range of eateries; > Great walking country - we climbed Pendle Hill, trekked through Gisburn Forest, and followed a route from Dunsop Bridge with fantastic views; > Try the Settle to Carlisle heritage train, which can be picked up from Clitheroe (on Wednesdays, I think), or Skipton. Do try Stone Mouse Cottage!

Excellent accommodation, and an ideal location for wonderful scenery and eating places.

Rated by Mrs Burton reviewed on 6th June 2015

I am not usually lost for words, but to expand upon the plaudits already given by other reviewers is difficult. As it would also be pointless to just repeat them all, it just make sense to confirm absolutely that every single item and issue praised by others was exactly as we found it- and oh how wonderful it was too. We rent quite frequently and at various areas of the country-generally contemporarily furnished properties such as this- but I have to say this one is the very template by which others should be rated! It really IS that good. The attention to fine detail is obvious and it is clear that the running and development of Stonemouse is a carefully considered living issue and nothing had a "stale" factor about it if you understand my gist. For me the magnificence lay in the sheer tranquility. Being such a distance from the road there was no road noise, in fact I cant even remember hearing planes overhead- and the tiny community there must be respectful of the peace as it was pretty much silent apart from the soothing bird song and animal noise. Soothing to the very soul indeed.I had forgotten that such silence and peace remained in our world. I have had Forest of Bowland on my "to do " list for very many years now as I had heard of its beauty, its isolation and minimal tourist occupation (due to everyone dashing past it on their way to the Lakes). It hardly prepared me however for the stupendous drive we took one day from Slaidburn north into the hills! A single track road that wandered lazily for miles and miles up hill and down dale as they say, and not meeting a single car for the whole hour and a half we travelled along it..wow. I didnt think isolation such as this still existed in our country. Please do try it- hopefully you will be as amazed and inspired as we were- but shush, keep it quiet lest the secret gets out too much! lol. My brother and his wife, our usual holiday companions, were left behind on this occasion (much to their chagrin!). Then we happened to notice that on the 1 mile access road to the cottage there was a Camping and Caravan Site half way down it- one where they are limited to only 5 caravans- so its small and basic although beautifully positioned. We mentioned this to them and needless to say a couple of days later they were installed and able to join us for meals and socialising which absolutely made it for us- and them. This I mention as it may be of interest to other parties that would similarly have family join them. That this property is booked months and months ahead speaks volumes for itself- quite justifiably so. I would just like to openly congratulate Janet and Daniel on achieving the very pinnacle of what all holiday lettings owners should be trying to attain. Myself and my wife- we cannot wait to break our rule of never going back the same place twice! If you are even dithering as to whether this property is for you or not...stop now-book it, I guarantee that like the rest of us you will be far from disappointed.

Perfect for an away from it all break. Great walking country and an abundance of places to eat. The cottage was faultless, with fabulous views straight out of the lounge/patio. A bonus at this time of year was watching the baby lambs, so entertaining! Everything you need has been thought of in this quality cosy cottage. Lots of extra touches to enhance your stay. Highly recommended.

Rated by Mrs Manning reviewed on 18th April 2015

We stayed in Stone Mouse Cottage with friends and found it absolutely wonderful. There was everything you could possibly need and everything of the highest quality. The beds were superbly comfortable and the bedding was the best you could have. We were at the cottage in January when the weather was at its worst. We lit the log burner but really we didn’t need the extra heat…the cottage is so warm and comfortable and a treat to return to after a day out There are marvellous views to the fell through the massive wall to wall window doors which could be opened wide onto a lovely decked area. There was a BBQ area and huge sitting area in the garden. The surrounding area has much to see and there are some excellent eating places. If you wanted to cook, everything was there….nice crockery, glassware, cutlery, lots of serving dishes, and high quality pans. Janet and Daniel were lovely people and couldn’t do enough for us. We had fresh flowers and a welcome basket with wine, scones, strawberry jam and cream which was very much appreciated. We felt totally at home and wished we lived permanently in such a lovely place, so much so that we shall definitely be returning. This is the ideal place to relax and chill out away from any hustle and bustle. Just pack your clothes and walking shoes, as everything else is there in the cottage. Can’t wait to return.

Everything was beautiful but the particular favourite was the lovely views from the huge doors in the living room. Magic.

Rated by Mrs Hutchinson reviewed on 21st March 2015

The property was probably the best we have stayed in. The owners had thought of everything. It was an excellent place to stay.

We have just returned from a week-end break at this exceptional cottage and our only regret that it wasn't for longer, we shall return ! The accommodation, facilities, location and views cannot be faulted and it is blessed with an abundance of excellent shops and restaurants within a 10 mile radius not to mention the surrounding countryside with it's lovely walks and amazing wildlife. You can be sure of a true Northern welcome not only from the lovely owners but in most of the establishments you may frequent.

Had a wonderful short break with parents and we all commented that we would love to live at the cottage. It is fabulous and the best we have ever been to. The owners are on hand to assist but never obtrusive and they provide an outstanding venue for a holiday. Peace and tranquillity in a lovely part of the world. We would all have given it 11 out of 10 if it were possible. Thanks again for a fantastic break.

Everything was superb and really enjoyed the peace and quiet. The dusting of snow made it even more special for our Christmas break.

Rated by Mr Mirfin reviewed on 3rd January 2015

If we could give this accommodation more than 10 out of 10 we would. The cottage is extremely comfortable, warm and clean, really like a home. There are two gorgeous bedrooms and we decided to use the one with the en-suite, bed was very comfortable with luxury sheets so we slept very well. The owners were there if we needed them but not obtrusive. Stone Mouse Cottage is an excellent base from which to explore the local area and there was plenty of local information in the house to help you even a local restaurant guide. We have been in this area before but managed this time to visit new places. We arrived on Friday both tired from work needing a rest and left feeling refreshed and ready for Christmas.

The location of the cottage was fantastic. It was really comfortable and beautifully presented. The owners were so friendly and we really appreciated the welcome pack. We loved the Forest of Bowland and found it a good base for exploring the region. The tourist information in the cottage was excellent too.

We have stayed in many cottages over the years but this one," Stone Mouse Cottage" exceeded all expectations These premises had everything one could have required, plenty of Cooking Appliances - Crockery- Cutlery etc. The Cottage was very light and airy and had spectacular views over the hills. A lot of thought had gone into the designing of the Cottage with modern ideas. Ideally located for getting around the Dales, did not really want to leave, you could have lived in this cottage 12 months of the year. Pets extremely catered for with towels and washing facilities all to hand.

A most comfortable cottage, best I have stayed in. Bright and airy with open views to the fields from the large lounge window which opens on to a wide terrace and garden/ play area. The area is quiet with lots of wildlife to be seen (plus the farm sheep) but is convenient for travelling to the Yorkshire Dales, the Lancashire coast or the Lake District. The owners give you a most warm welcome and make you feel quite at home. My daughter, granddaughter (4 years old) and I enjoyed the cottage so much that we booked to go back in 2015 ! I cannot recommend it too highly.

This was a 5 star accommodation which could not be faulted, well received on arrival by the owners and were available for any information we required. We have stayed in many holiday cottages with yourselves and different companies, and will say that this property is outstanding and the best one we have ever stayed in. The property is in a good location for sightseeing.

Rated by Mr Braker reviewed on 20th April 2014

This is the first time we've been back to the same place for a holiday - partly because there's so much to see in the world but also because there's a risk it won't live up to the memory. No fear here, another 4 nights in the Stone Mouse and we are already thinking about another trip - a year on and the place looks just as immaculate as before. If you want somewhere where you can just collapse away from it all, without having to pack masses of stuff (because everything you could need is in the cottage), then this is the perfect place. There's just so much to see within an hour’s drive of the cottage - Ribblehead viaduct, Ingleton waterfalls (highly recommended), Harrogate, Grassington, the list goes on. A perfect location for exploring the beautiful Lancashire and Yorkshire. Thanks once again Janet and Daniel for making us feel so welcome and for a lovely relaxing break.

Rated by BeaEee reviewed on 7th March 2014

I'll start by saying, we are very picky customers. Finding a contemporary cottage at the reasonable price seems to be decidedly difficult. But Janet has done an amazing job decorating their newly built (detached) Stone Mouse cottage. It looks like something out of the Ideal Home magazine - so much so that my first reaction was 'can I live here forever' (despite having just spent 2 long years doing up our own house)!! The photos on their website look fantastic, but even these don't do it justice. The open-plan living-room/kitchen/diner is more than enough for 4 people, and the wood-burning stove and almost-full width sliding doors really do give it the ‘wow’ factor. The view of the rolling Lancashire hills of course also adds to this! The two bedrooms are a great size, and the twin/king room has a little flat-screen TV which I presume is aimed at keeping the kids quiet :) The en-suite shower is very strong, and the separate bathroom is gorgeous - particularly if you have a candlelit bath (Janet really has thought of everything). Literally everything you can imagine is provided in the kitchen. Our one tiny recommendation would be to make wi-fi available since the phone signal is almost non-existent, but perhaps other people like to properly wind down! If you're techno geek's like us, the two Tv's will play video via a USB key which is useful to know. We had a lovely warm welcome from both Janet and her hubby, and the home-made scones and bottle of wine in the welcome basket which such an unexpected but lovely touch. There were also gorgeous baskets of toiletries in the bathrooms if you'd forgotten anything, which was even more surprising given that most cottages these day's don't even provide washing up liquid! Oh and the towels and bedding were sublime. Three days was most definitely was not enough – we can't recommend this cottage more highly, and we will definitely be back. Ps the Coach and Horses 3.5miles down the road does great food, but was surprisingly lacking in ambience (customers) at Sunday lunchtime, but worth a trip if you don’t fancy cooking.
