Reviews

Blacksmith Cottage was nicely furnished and the bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival was a friendly touch. Its location next to the fish and chip shop and a few yards from the centre of the village was ideal. The bed was comfortable and the accommodation was very quiet - the chip shop is only open 4 or 5 days a week and closes by 7 at the latest. There was no-one in the upstairs rental so I don't know whether you might be disturbed by people walking around overhead. The owners had left basic essentials, e.g. washing powder, kitchen roll, toilet roll, plasters (v. useful one evening). The only downside was that it was a bit cramped. The bed took up a lot of the living/bedroom and if one partner gets up a lot earlier than the other, there isn't anywhere very comfortable to sit and read the paper etc.

We found that the cottage beautifully kitted out and very comfortable in every way. The bed in particular was wonderfully comfortable.

Had a really wonderful week in this quaint cottage. I was very impressed by the quality of the interior, it was tastefully decorated with nice period furnishings. I felt completely at home as soon as I arrived. The whole place was clean and fresh. The owner has paid great attention to detail and it pays off marvelously. The bottle of wine is a lovely touch and reinforces the owners' desire to ensure you have a good time. The cottage is well placed for the town's amenities as it is just off the main square. There are three nice pub/restaurants within a hundred yards and a few yards further on there is a convenience store and a newsagent as well as gift shops etc. This was my first cottage holiday and it is going to be very difficult to better the experience - Thank you

An excellent cottage in a great location!

A home from home in a great location. Grassington is a lovely village with enough shops, pubs & cafes, some good walks and friendly locals. Blacksmith Cottage is central and has all the facilities needed for a stay here - well equipped kitchen and huge bed with a small, enclosed patio, which is very handy if you have a hound with you.

Rated by Mr Mcdonald reviewed on 21st March 2015

In a very central position in Grassington. The studio is small and very well equipped, although may have too much furniture and unnecessary ornaments. The bathroom was a little chilly. On arrival, the remote control for TV was missing. We contacted the owner who suggested we look under the be bed! She contacted us later to say the previous tenant had taken it home with her. No replacement was offered. As we were only there for 3 nights it never appeared.

This was a very comfortable studio in an excellent location. It was well furnished and extremely well equipped. The owners supplied more than one would expect. I would highly recommend. Snow lay on the ground for our week there and it was always warm and cosy.

Rated by Mrs Hughes reviewed on 25th January 2015

This is an absolutely delightful studio set right in the heart of Grassington. I booked it as a Christmas present for my husband and we both had a great time. We stayed there in a week when the temperatures were below zero and snow lay on the ground. It was very comfortable and cosy. There is one room with a large bed and a couple of sofas and chairs. The kitchen and dining table are around the corner. It is extremely well stocked. All the usuals but also books, DVDs, guides as well as tea and coffee. Even a bottle of wine!! The location is ideal. At that time of year we were able to park the car in the square. Within a few yards were three pubs, a hotel with restaurant, an indian take-away and a fish and chip shop. We ate at all of them!! We also bought cakes from the cafe opposite the cottage. They were all good. We also visited the Old Hall Inn at Threshfield (perfect for fish and chips) and had the tasting menu at The Angel at Hetton. Lovely flat in a great village. Would highly recommend.

This was a lovely, cosy cottage in a great location with plenty of shops and hotels in the village. Plenty of walking on the doorstep and further afield. The wifi signal was excellent too.

Rated by Mrs Kelly reviewed on 8th September 2014

We stayed in this little cottage in Aug/Sept 2014 and found it to be very charming and well equipped. The location is fabulous for lots of walking in the Yorkshire Dales and Grassington is a lovely place to be based as it is a lovely friendly village. There are three hotels that allow dogs and the food is acceptable pub food. If there was one downside, I would struggle to find one but it would be that it is a studio and quite small. However, the layout is very well done and there is a huge bed.

We live relatively close by and as I work from home wanted to relax and be away from my working/home environment. Staying at blacksmith cottage made me think why do we need big houses and lots of clutter that we never use. It was compact, very well equipped, extremely clean and we were welcomed by a lovely bottle of wine. The weather was kind to us and we did what we planned to do...absolutely nothing. It was wonderful and I would highly recommend a stay here. Perhaps next time we will try lotties loft upstairs!

We loved the location of Blacksmiths Cottage near the centre of Grassington, a lovely Dales Village. There were plenty of facilities, pubs, restaurants and shops to make our stay enjoyable. We are keen walkers, and despite the bad weather on most days we were able to take 3 to 4 hour walks directly from the cottage. Altogether a memorable and enjoyable stay.

Easy to book, wonderful cottage and a very relaxing holiday. Would recommend it to friends.

Rated by Mrs Sullivan reviewed on 21st May 2013

We chose this rental on the basis of the favourable reviews, and expected slightly better than we got. It was fine in terms of size, and very convenient for the village. But there were too many things not working or in need of repair - we called the owner who retuned the TV for us and replaced the five light bulbs that were not working. But the radio was hopeless, there was broken shelf in the fridge and the fitted sheets didn't fit the bed. So it would benefit from a bit of a health check and improvement before the season really gets going.

Our second visit to Blacksmith cottage - as a couple it served our needs, it was quaint, well presented and the area was a good base.

Rated by Mrs Scott reviewed on 25th July 2012

The cottage is situated in a very convenient place, the interior was very clean and had all the necessary facilities - the kitchen in particular was very well appointed. Grassington is a lovely town to stay in and a very welcoming place.

Rated by Mr Smith reviewed on 25th July 2012

This studio apartment is compact, very clean but with too much space taken up by furniture and knick knacks. However the kitchen was very well equipped and stocked and the bed huge and comfortable and the bathroom clean and well presented. The sitting out area was very disappointing, full of weeds and garden furniture dirty and unusable which was a shame as we were there for one of the rare warm dry spells. It is ideally situated for the village and for walking the dales. Parking to unload and load vehicle can be difficult.

Rated by SukeeHampshire reviewed on 18th July 2012

A quality studio let, with lots of little extras. A very comfortable cottage, lovely super king-size bed, tastefully furnished and decorated. A very enjoyable break in a lovely village. We parked the car and were able to leave it until the end of our break. Great walking country and good pubs in the village.

Rated by Mr Fisher reviewed on 1st January 2010

Fantastic instructions re arrival. The cottage was a large studio with en suite, but very cosy and sweet. We used it as a base for our walking holiday, but it was lovely to come back to in the evening. The cottage is in the centre of Grassington and ideally placed to stroll home from one of the many pubs and restaurants. Grassington also has a small supermarket, bakers (great first thing in the morning to stock up with drinks and sandwiches before our walk) and numerous delightful gift shops. The only slight problem was that the cottage was on a narrow hill and it was very difficult to get the car down. As there was no parking, the car had to be parked elsewhere and you had to walk to the cottage. I could see this would be a problem to anyone who had difficulty in walking too far. Overall an excellent place to stay and very dog friendly.

No problem to find the key. The home has been furnitured with much love for the detail. Well equipped. The backyard would probably have looked friendlier if the weather had been better. The landscape around is great, especially the Dales. Ideal start for traveling, walking, sightseeing. We enjoyed our visit to very much.
