This traditional end-terrace cottage is located in the conservation area of the vibrant fishing village of Amble. Renovated to a good standard, this Amble cottage offers views over the scenic Northumberland coast towards Coquet Island, and is an ideal base for a family or a group of friends. Tastefully decorated, this Amble cottage has two large bedrooms complete with a family bathroom benefiting from a rain shower. French doors lead to the enclosed rear yard, plus a grassed side garden boasts unrestricted views of the coast and is an ideal spot for warmer evenings. This Amble cottage is perfectly located for access to the dog-friendly beach, and here you will discover a pretty little cove with rock pools that little ones will delight in. This charming Amble cottage is so named because the great-great-grandfather of the owner was the lighthouse keeper of Coquet Island; now a bird sanctuary. Boat trips from the harbour offer sightseers the chance to pay a call on the resident puffins. Numerous restaurants and dog-friendly pubs are just a short stroll from your Amble cottage, and you can visit the majestic Alnwick Castle, known as Hogwarts in the popular Harry Potter films, or explore miles of Heritage Coast nearby. This cottage in Amble offers a relaxing break, and is a comfortable base from which to discover Northumberland.

The bustling town of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters - the daily catch can be bought at a fish shop in the harbour. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster and numerous superb beaches are only a short drive away, whilst charming Alnwick with its castle and award winning gardens, and the National Trust's Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.

Reviews

We've stayed here multiple times and have found it to be the nicest place in Amble so far. There is a good welcome pack, plus a cupboard of dog treats! The facilities are everything we needed and all very clean. The place is fresh, yet warm enough. Very comfortable in all rooms. It has a nice atmosphere. The only down side is that the easy chair was looking in need of replacing as it was getting scruffy. We had a lovely relaxing stay in this place and always look to choose it when we stay in Amble.

Minutes from beach and town centre, the cottage has everything that you need real home from home ,maybe one of the most comfortable places we have stayed at hard to beat.

This was our second visit with the first being two years ago in August 2015. Excellent location and within walking distance of town, harbour and great dog friendly beaches. Very dog friendly coastal town and locals are extremely friendly. Great location for children, dogs and anyone who likes walking as hell as driving. Good base for touring coastal Northumberland. Spacious, good on road parking outside property. Sadly Now in need of some TLC and a good deep basic clean. If the latter was done would rate the experience more highly and recommend to friends again as we did in 2015 Owner very friendly and welcoming.

A delightful cottage in an amazing position with sea views from every room. It was spacious and clean and well equipped. An enclosed yard was an added bonus. It was located in a quiet street with restaurants and pubs close by. A very relaxing stay.

We had a lovely week at Lightkeeper House. It has fabulous sea views from every window. The bed was very comfortable. The house was warm and cosy with everything you need for your stay.

Everything was perfect at Lightkeeper House. We can't decide who enjoyed it most, ourselves or our 2 King Charles Cavaliers! There were lots of castles and endless beaches on the coast and also plentiful walks on the beach a one minute walk from the cottage. Amble is a lovely small town with everything you need. Can't speak too highly of both the cottage and this beautiful part of England.

Rated by Mrs Warren reviewed on 20th March 2016

Lightkeeper House is a fabulous cottage. It was lovely to see the sea from all the windows. The open plan living area with the wood burner was lovely. Can highly recommend and will definitely be returning.

We loved Lightkeeper House and will definitely book again. The property had everything and more than you could want. We needed somewhere to relax and this did the trick. The owners met us as we pulled up and were lovely and friendly. They should be really proud of this property.

Rated by Mr Mcdonald reviewed on 23rd January 2016

The warmest most comfortable cottage we have stayed in. Can see the sea from nearly every window. Straight out of the house to great walks by the sea.

Rated by Mrs Clarke reviewed on 18th October 2015

The cottage is excellent, worth a 4star rating rather than the three star rating. We enjoyed relaxing in the cottage, it is very warm and cosy, plenty of hot water for a long soak in the bath. The main double bed was extremely comfy and we slept very well. It is very quiet in the cottage and has parking outside. The Tv is superb, with sky tv, and sky good speed WiFi, to enable you to plan day visits using the internet each night. The property is comfy, a high standard of renovation to a lovely holiday cottage. Lucca our weimaraner loved the cottage, and its closeness to the harbour bar area for walks. Well situated after long days walking on the beaches at alnmouth, druridge, low newton, bamburgh, and days out at craster, seahouses, warkworth and alnwick. We cooked a hot meal each evening, 4 frying pans, 1 milk pan 2 very large stock pans and utensils were in the kitchen. Only criticism is the kitchen could have done with 1-2 medium size pans, and a medium or large casserole dish. We had to buy disposable foil casserole dishes from queens street hardware store. A bread bin may be good too. We still managed to make lovely evening meals each night. We only had one really wet day, when we rested in the afternoon at the cottage, after a morning exploring Amble in the rain and drizzle. We purchased a children's draughts set which we left with the cottages jigsaws on the bookcase. We love Amble which is really friendly and welcoming, queen street barkery does lovely gluten free cakes. We love the village cafe in Alnmouth staffed by people from Amble, who are very dog friendly and they do fab coffee and gluten free cakes, for each afternoon with a loyalty card buy 5 drinks get 6th free. Alnwick is close by for Sainsburys, Aldi and Lidl to buy in our main shopping for weekly food for breakfast and evening meals. Lucca, our weimaraner is made welcome in Northumberland, especially in Amble which is really dog friendly. He loves walks on the beaches daily. We are both disabled walking with one and myself 2 arm crutches. so find druridge, alnmouth, bamburgh, and low newton beaches very accessible. This is our third Sykes cottage holiday in Northumberland we love staying in Amble as our base. Of course we will be back at Amble, with Sykes, we were sad we hadn't booked a two week break. Unfortunately Lightkeeper House is so popular it often doesn't have a 2 week slot available, so 1 week had to be booked instead of 2 weeks. This is the best and most homely and comfy Sykes cottage we have stayed in so far, we will be 're booking soon for next year. The visitors book is full of wonderful comments by people who loved the cottage and want to return again.

A great location close to local beaches which are of a very high standard, and everywhere is dog friendly. A very nice cottage within walking distance of food pubs, shops, cafes and Amble harbour. The beaches are all dog friendly and some of the best we have seen in the UK. Local people are all extremely friendly and welcoming.

A lovely homely cottage in an excellent location in Amble. Amble is a lovely fishing town which is on the up with some lovely redevelopment going on. The cottage is near the beach, harbour, shops and some nice places to eat. We don't have one but dogs seemed to be welcomed everywhere.

Had the most amazing week at Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage in Amble. The house itself has everything and more that is needed for a week's stay. Dishwasher, washing machine, loads of crockery, log burner, comfy settees, sky TV, DVDs, games, books.... The list is endless. But what is the most wonderful, is the decor. The house is stunning, very tasteful. Two beautiful bedrooms which are extremely comfortable. Lovely bathroom with the most wonderful shower and a bright, cheerful through lounge, diner, kitchen. Cannot rate highly enough. There is also a patio area and pretty side garden. Sometimes we could not park directly outside but was never any problem as a safe parking area just opposite. Literally 30 seconds walk to small beach, which although not particularly stunning is perfect for dogs. Our two dogs sulked all the way back home. They had been in doggy paradise in Amble. A little further along towards harbour a bigger beach which is lovely. Lovely little town, lots of building going on along harbour, little craft shops etc being built. Druridge Bay 5 minutes drive away as is Alnmouth beach. Both have miles and miles of stunning white, sandy beaches. Would highly recommend Alnwick Castle, Holy Island, Bamborough Castle, Wallington and Cragside. All within 30 minutes drive. So much to see in area, not really enough time in a week. Was a bit hesitant when driving through estate to reach cottage but wouldn't hesitate to say, the best cottage we have ever stayed in. Definitely going again. Thank you to a wonderful, friendly owner.

This cottage was an absolute delight to stay in. It was absolutely gorgeous inside, very tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable. The kitchen was perfectly equipped with everything you would need, including a fantastic welcome basket. Comfortable front room with sky package (which husband absolutely loved), games and DVDs galore! The king sized bed was even more comfortable than my own and as for the bathroom, well, beautiful. The rain shower was wonderful in the morning. Parking outside the house is easy and a lovely 1 minute walk to the beach. Can't wait to go again.

Rated by Mrs Lewis reviewed on 18th April 2015

Enjoyed everything about this holiday but in particular, the beaches which just go on and on. There are also plenty of towns/villages to visit with lots of good shops. There are also loads of good places to eat in/takeaway. Lightkeeper House is in an ideal position and even has a perfect view of Coquet Island. It is warm and comfortable and is one of the best houses we've ever stayed in! We will definitely be having a second visit.

This was a wonderful holiday house. Ideally situated next to the beach and within easy driving distance to a range of other beaches. The property itself is very well presented and had been thoughtfully and tastefully decorated. Would certainly look to stay again and have already recommended to family.

Lovely location close to play park and open spaces for dog walking and also lots of lovely places to visit close by. Also liked that it was very close to a co-op and the town of Amble. The cottage itself was generally beautiful, and the owner had thought of everything, in terms of equipment for example full sky tv and broadband was fantastic, and the full range of pans and other kitchen equipment provided was also excellent. We loved the leaflets and information left for us, it was a lovely start to the holiday.

We liked the location and it's proximity to beach. A good base for a family holiday plenty for all to do with a great working harbour with puffin cruises, good fishing, ample shops and amusement and play facilities for the children. We found also a good central location to surrounding places like Alnmouth, Warkworth, Alnwick and Seahouses. It's a fabulous place and Lighthouse Keepers Cottage exceeded our expectations as did Northumberland.

We booked at the last minute and the staff at Sykes were so helpful and friendly that we could not have asked for more. The house was terrific and we were met by the owner who gave us some great advice on what to do and where to go. There were some lovely touches at the house as well when we got there. Teabags, wine, flowers and a host of other stuff were all there waiting for us. A home away from home.
