The cottage offers very comfortable, well-equipped accommodation in a superb location for discovering this beautiful region and visitors will receive a very warm welcome from the owners who live next dorr. Richmond offers a Norman castle, Georgian Theatre, museums and beautiful riverside walks.

The ancient market town of Richmond is situated at the entrance to Swaledale, a prominent hilltop site to the north of the River Swale. With a maze of cobbled streets and narrow alleys – or 'wynds' – this town has over nine centuries of history. Growing up around the castle - a Norman fortress dating back to 1071 – Richmond literally means 'strong hill' and is derived from the Old English 'Riche-mont'. The River Swale runs through the town itself and provides not only lovely walks, but also safe paddling areas and the occasional small waterfall. Radiating from the market place, where a weekly market and monthly farmer's market are still observed, the lovely cobbled streets are lined with numerous shops, pubs and restaurants.

A lovely bungalow, warm cosy and it was spotless. Could not ask for anything more. The owners must be so proud of having such an excellent property.

Owners very friendly and helpful. Great starting place for touring The Dales. Tourist info free guided walk round Richmond and Dales trail leaflets were both excellent.

As we had previously stayed at Thornlea before, we knew exactly what to expect of the cottage, and we were over the moon to be able to book it at quite short notice when most of the year is fully booked. The owners live next door but never make you feel as if Big Brother is watching you. A very enjoyable and stress-free break; we will definitely return!

Rated by Mr Farthing reviewed on 28th May 2013

Excellent all round thanks to great owners. Thanks very much!

Great bungalow in a fantastic location. Owners very helpful and welcoming. Highly recommended.

Rated by Mr Maguire reviewed on 17th November 2012

One of the easiest holiday cottages I have booked. From first booking with yourselves, the experience was a pleasure. The owners were very friendly, living next door, nothing too much trouble for them, they were there if you needed them but not intrusive at all. A welcome pack was in the cottage to start the holiday which included a bottle of wine. It was a very enjoyable holiday, and a cottage I would use again.

Rated by Miss Stephenson reviewed on 11th September 2012

From the welcoming bottle of wine one the table when we arrived, we knew that we were going to enjoy this break, and were not disappointed! It was a beautiful bungalow, with lovely views out over rolling fields and hills, so tranquil. We have visited Richmond many times before, but never stopped in a holiday home there and were 'over the moon' with the cottage for location and a comprehensive list of fixtures/fitttings. The owners were ever so friendly(next door) but without that 'big brother is watching you' attitude! Truly a lovely holiday home which we will return to, if we may, Thank you on behalf of my wife and I.

I required a small cottage for a weekend stay, and this was in a good location on the outskirts of Richmond and good value. Service was excellent with milk in the fridge and mince pies on the table when we arrived!

The location, and the warmth and 'cosiness' of the cottage was top class. The owners living next door were there if we needed any thing and the welcome tray when we arrived after a long journey was very welcome. We look forward to returning to this property when we visit this area again.

The friendly personal service from the owners who lived adjacent to the bungalow (a welcome note, bottle of Cava for our wedding celebrations, milk in the fridge, tea, coffee, sugar, filter papers, washing up liquid, paper towels, washing powder, bin bags and a personal visit to make sure we arrived ok). We felt the bungalow offered general warmth & comfort on arrival.

A warm friendly welcome from the owners together with flowers on the table, milk in the fridge and a bottle of wine and black sheep beer on the table! (as well as the more usual tea, coffee and sugar). Fantastic view from the sitting room across the vale, and a suntrap to sit in when one wished, in a colourful garden. Unobtrusive help available when required.

The footpath next to the cottage provided a pleasant walk to Easby Abbey. The traffic from the main road was never intrusive. The garden was very pleasant for sitting in and at night was visited by bats.
