Located on Valentia Island - which lies off the coast of the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry – Knightstown is a wonderful spot for a holiday. Easily accessible from the mainland by a ferry that runs from Reenard Point, or via the road bridge at Portmagee, Knightstown provides restaurants and pubs, as well as entertainment and local shops. It also offers a variety of sightseeing boat trips and fishing trips from its picturesque harbour. With around 650 residents, Valentia Island was the site of the first permanent communications link between Europe and the United States, and is famed for its magnificent 'Fogher' sea cliffs and its subtropical gardens at Glanleam House.
County Kerry is a mystical and unspoilt part of Ireland, with spectacular natural beauty and a fascinating history. Facing the Atlantic Ocean, it features many sandy beaches, rocky inlets and stunning peninsulas.
This is a lovely, quaint, 'old-school' cottage, but with all the modern conveniences. It is well-maintained and has all the amenities one could ask for. The two bedrooms are small but very cozy. The living room is a good size. The kitchen is small but compact and manageable. The beds are very comfy. The patio area is fine. The garden is a piece of Heaven, but bring fly/bug spray or you'll be eaten alive by midges!! The bathroom is small but fine. The shower room is separate from the toilet and is also fine, but the shower area needs a lip, or more of a dip, as the floor tends to get very wet. The garden could do with some slabs, as you would drag mud into the house on a wet day. Lovely scenic area with a short drive to Knightstown, and you also have the Ring Lyne pub and restaurant which sells some tasty food. If you like the 'sound' of silence, this is the place for you and three guests. I think that covers just about everything.
The cottage was marvellous and near to village and sea for walks, yet private and secure. We would recommend it for exploring the island or just relaxing.
Lovely cosy cottage. Short walk across the road you have a lovely view of the Sea. Have to go down a slope to have nice walk on the beach. The town was nearly 2km away but views were lovely from Knightown. Was a pity the patio area was very small. Spotless cottage - Valentia is a beautiful area to explore.
In fact, this year was the second time we stayed at Brendans for our summer holiday. Brendans cottage is a charming, traditional place to explore Valentia and the Kerry coast. The small garden is perfect to relax, the way down to the strand is just a couple of meters. The cottage has all facilities needed - the kitchen is well equipped. Brendans cottage has a very friendly owner who did all to make our stay comfortable.
Pleasant location in great surroundings friendly owner.
