Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. From Snowdonia in North Wales to the Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast in the South.
Stayed here for a family 60th Birthday party - fantastic place - so chilled - and space to move around - BUT - not clean when we arrived - sand in hot tub - many fixtures and fittings worn out or just out dated - needs a total make over - and outside a bit of a dump - clapped out tables and a dumped water cistern - with debris of wall insulation just abandoned - Really need a major overhaul - not worth the money at all Could be amazing but needs about £50,000 spending on it to continue Also has ver out of keeping ugly 70s type run - down house sitting right a the side of it which is an eyesore ! Not happy for the price !!
The owners mr and Mrs Evans are very warm and welcoming. The cottage is spotlessly clean and full of character. Stunning location and views, perfect for hill walking. We walked 25 miles in the local hills from the cottage door and barely met more than 5 people! Fantastic hot tub, private and sheltered from any breeze. The four poster master bedroom is amazing.
Just want to thank Sioned for the amazing attention to detail we had! No problem was too big! They went above & beyond. The cottage was in an immaculate condition, we had such amazing views! Travel cots were provided for our 5 month old son! My daughter fell in love with Bella & wanted to bring her home with us! Hopefully one day we will come visit again!
“The cottage was fantastic with lots of space for the 8 adults and 3 dogs in our group.” As there were 4 couples it was perfect having 4 double bedrooms each having its own bath/shower room then a 5th bedroom with 3 single beds which we didn’t use. Everyone could be together or get away from each other all in the same cottage. Very well equipped inside the kitchen and elsewhere with games, books, darts etc Unfortunately the hot tub was not working when we arrived but the owners were great and got this fixed as quickly as possible but as we had missed 4 days use of the hot tub the owners were very fair and offered us compensation. Their customer service is exemplary and they could not have been more help. We had an amazing time and have recommended this cottage to others already Thank you for the great stay
Have just returned from a brilliant holiday spent in this beautiful cottage .There were 9 of us 5 adults and 4 children .The owners Mr and Mrs Evan's were so warm and welcoming lovely couple. The cottage is amazing so spacious and beautiful full of charm and history. The dining room is amazing with its log burner. The scenery around the cottage is stunning. So peaceful and relaxing. The children were age 1,11,12,and 16 they thoroughly enjoyed the holiday. The highlight of the holiday was when Mr Evan's brought 2 baby lambs around for the children to see and feed. The children loved it even the baby some great photos took . The garden is really pretty set on 2 levels but plenty of room for children to explore. Hot tub and games room were also a hit. Out and about great breakfast at Brigand Hoteland Cross Foxes .Good days out at King Arthur's Labyrinth, Powis Castle and Llandudno for the beach. Will return in the future .
9 of us stopped here for a long weekend in March, we all thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, winding down in the hot tub in the evening. The owners Mr & Mrs Evans are on site and can't do enough for you, a real pleasure to meet them both. If you're after a peaceful break with beautiful scenery in a character cottage, this is the one. My only regret is not having stopped longer to explore the surroundings more.
This really is a great place to stay the views are fantastic, good facilities with pool table, dart board and hot tub. This is the sort of place where you don’t need to lock the doors! Also pet friendly one of the few places we could find that will accept more than 2 dogs. Mr and Mrs Evans are very friendly and nothing is to much trouble will definitely visit again the landscape is quite breathtaking. Towels are not provided so you will need to take your own.
We spent five days at Ysgubor with family and three dogs and we all enjoyed every minute of our stay. We all loved the house with its 400 year history, oak beams and wood burning stoves making it cosy and relaxing, a real country cottage feel. The rooms are big and we loved the big kitchen with its family sized table and comfortable lounge. The hot tub and pool table were a definite bonus. Mr and Mrs Evans were lovely and couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. We will definitely be going back.
Excellent base for all the local attractions, mountains and beaches. House was beautiful, cosy and spacious and owners were lovely and couldn't do enough for you. Will definitely be back and can't wait
We liked everything! The house rambled along and up so that there were quiet corners for folk to "hide" in. The kitchen with its big table provided the perfect focal point for family socialising and communal eating. The paved area to the front was great for scooter opportunities for the 5 yr old, the surrounding wall for drying boots (had we needed to!), the back garden (gravelled) was not much used except for the hot tub which was used by all of us, everyday.. particularly after our day climbing Snowden. The owners were delightful hosts!
It was a marvellous cottage and location for a wonderful holiday for our family group with ages ranging from 30 to 99 (and dog). Activities ranged from mountain climbing to relaxing in the hot tub and everything in between.
We particularly liked the overall size of the property and the helpfulness of the owners.
I had a great holiday with my friends, the cottage was well equipped with everything we could possibly want, and the owners were very helpful whenever we needed it. I especially loved the pool table and hot tub. The value was fantastic as well, I would love to visit again one day!
Everything was great, a fantastic location, beautiful house and the owners were very accommodating and friendly. The children had lots to explore inside and out and in fact it was difficult to get them outdoors, as they loved the house that much. We all agreed to return again next year and we can't wait.
"We loved the fact that the owners found time for us; even in the busy lambing season they bought newborns for us to see and even let us watch them being delivered. The mountains behind us provided some excellent walks that were peaceful and quiet . It was marvellous to bring our family together in such a wonderfully spacious farmhouse in just the right setting."
A group of 10 of us stayed in Ysgubor for 3 nights and it was just a wonderful experience. Great friends, great house and super surroundings. For a short stay in February the weather was very much on our side and the owners were extremely helpful and accommodating, showing us the best routes for our walks and just being general lovelies. As a group we walked to the Red Lion pub which served fantastic home cooked delights and a well deserved pint of something refreshing. We also took a hike up to the top of the idyllic mountain side surrounding the cottage which have the the most breathtaking views. Of course this wouldn't be a review without the mention of the hot tub, just great! This house itself is oldy worldy with beams, an insane master bedroom/bathroom combo and incredible dining area which really went down a treat with the wood burning fires. All in all this was a super stay for us and we would be more then happy to go back again. In fact we are all in talks of a summer stay so lets get booking.
The house is just great and the kitchen is fantastic, with a big wood burning range with a glass door, that makes the place especially homely. We even managed to sit out in the hot tub under a clear sky, which was heavenly. There is plenty of room and the location is excellent, so all in all we couldn't be happier.
Well this was our second holiday to the area and Ysgubor was a fantastic place to explore the area from and then relax and enjoy the evenings in. I can't go any further without mentioning the owners who couldn't do enough for you and were always so friendly, welcoming and enjoyable to deal with. The cottage is set at the foot of a mountain owned by the owners and as mentioned in other reviews the owner will take you up in his pick up so you can enjoy the incredible scenery and walk down. The hot tub is perfect after a long day mountain biking, walking or exploring! The house is in good condition and it may sound minor but the pump that aids the water pressure around the house does a sterling job and all the showers are nice and powerful, especially the jet shower! Huge kitchen, big lounge and a games room means there's always plenty of room for everyone. Would definitely recommend and return.
A lovely location and a beautiful historic property. The hot tub was a big plus.
I can honestly stay I have never been sad to end a holiday like I was leaving here. We went as a group of 10 for a surprise Hen weekend. The bride to be was blown away as I think we all where. The owners couldn't of made us feel more welcome without being intrusive. The cottage was just perfect and we are already planning our one year on visit. The farmer took us up the mountain in his truck and we walked back down (except for one of the group who was driven down) the views were completely amazing and the walk was on a road so wasn't too strenuous. The hot tub was very well used and thoroughly enjoyable, the kitchen was definitely the heart of our stay. As it was lambing season the farmer let us all have a little cuddle with a new born lamb. The lack of phone signal and internet was a pleasant change and I thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet of being there. I can not recommend this place highly enough.
The cottage was everything we wanted and so much more. The owners couldn't do enough to make our stay memorable, without being intrusive. Can't wait to go back. I really didn't want to come home, wish we could of stayed longer.
Lovely location, very cosy and roomy. Very friendly and helpful owners.
The hosts were charming, without interfering and went out of their way to assist us. The hot tub and pool table were great fun. The cottage is set in stunning scenery, with lots of good local walks.
Wonderful holiday, great place with plenty of good walks. Hot tub was great to relax in.
The welcome we had from the owner was lovely, both were helpful in explaining what we needed to know with regard to the cottage. Their knowledge of Walesade up planning days put easy. They also welcomed our grandchildren on their farm. Would thoughly recommend to friends. Great holiday.
The property is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty on a working sheep farm whose owners are most welcoming and friendly. The property is very spacious and ideal for a large family. It has lots of character with interesting nooks and crannies, four poster bed, log burning fires, wooden ceiling beams, slate floors etc. There are plenty of activities close by. We all fell in love with the place and can't recommend it highly enough for a great family holiday.
Our family really enjoyed our stay here. The property is very spacious and there are plenty of different areas. The kitchen easily accommodates all and is really well stocked. Having a hot tub, pool table and dart board was a real treat. We had some lovely weather and there is a huge bench out the front with great views and gets the sun all day. The owners were friendly and helpful and even let us help feed the lambs. The owners dogs were really friendly and gentle and were always up for a cuddle if you called them, even the members of my family who are nervous of dogs loved them. The area is perfect for walking, cycling, real ales and pub grub. I really recommend the cycle route along the old railway line by the estuary starting in Dollgelau and 'Dolgellau cycles' bike hire was really reasonably priced and well managed. I recommend Ysgubor to all:)
Upon arrivel we were met by the owners who were very frindly and welcoming, the cottage is very big and pleanty of room for everyone to move about in.The cottage was very clean and tidy. There are pleanty of walks around the area to do and the local pubs and food are great too.would deff go back as having a hot tub is a right treat.
Great, well equipped cottage in beautiful and peaceful location - fantastic views. We stayed in the largest king room with four poster and massive roll top bath. Generous living space, good outdoor terrace for BBQ's and the hot tub is a nice addition. Friendly and helpful owners living next door so easily available if needed. We traveled with two babies who thoroughly enjoyed helping the owners feed the lambs, which was a real treat for two city boys.
I enjoyed every single aspect of the property, it exceeded our expectations. The owners are lovely people and were very willing to help when we needed something. I will definitely recommend this place to my family and friends.
This cottage is set in a beautiful location and is within walking distance of Dinas Mawddwy, where there is a great little, dog friendly pub that serves lovely food (open fire too). It is surrounded by mountains and there are walks straight from the cottage. The cottage is set within a farm where there are other dogs and livestock but the cottage itself is enclosed and if you take your own dogs they are unable to get out of the garden unless they are determined. The farmers dogs have worked out how to get in but they tend to sit close by and just look in, which may drive some dogs crazy. The farmer, who lives in an attached cottage is extremely friendly and really helpful. We also got a lift up the mountain (at the back of the cottage) and walked down..it is a truy amazing sight but remember this is where slate originates and our dog cut her food quite badly (great, cheap local vet) so bare this in mind whilst wandering back. The cottage itself is incredibly spacious: you enter the front door to the games room and then it divides left and right. The kitchen is to the right with a lovely large bedroom above this and the remaining bedrooms and the stunning living room is to the left. The kitchen is a true farm house kitchen, with an aga, log burner, massive wooden dining table and slate flooring (the farmer replensihes the wood whenever needed at a very reasonable price). The living room has lots of seating and there are lots of games and brochures about the locality. The hot tub was a mega hit and requires no real effort to operate on your behalf. The garden is quite small and is mainly patio but the grassed bits are elevated and provide stunning views. There is a little table and chairs set up high too , which proved to be popular for a late afternoon glass of wine. (if you want bigger wine glasses or cups then id advise you take your own as the ones at the cottage are quite small) The fridge is a normal freezer fridge, which isn't that big if there's loads of you so an ice cooler or similar may be useful for drinks etc. We left our wine outside the back door but obviously in summer that would be useless! You also have to be careful how long you shower for. I believe there was a five minute rule - something to do with the pressure and the number of people using it. There are walks near and far and it's worth exploring this before arriving as the internet/mobile signal is pretty poor. Dolgellau is a short drive away and it has everything that you need, such as a large co-op, an amazing cake shop (the best cheesecake we've ever had!), chemist etc and one of our favourite walks around Cader Idris. There is another great walk (the torrent walk) which is between the cottage and Dollgelau. You will not get bored!
The location is breathtaking and the owners are really friendly.
The cottage is in a lovely quiet location which was excellent for walking and mountain biking. The owners were very helpful without being intrusive. There was plenty of room for the nine of us and The hot tub was a real bonus after a days walking. Lovely to be able to lie in bed and watch the stars!
A beautiful, peaceful cottage and location. The owners are friendly, welcoming and very helpful. It is brilliantly located so that you have a great secluded property but larger towns and tourist spots are easily accessible. The property is beautifully furnished and decorated and was clean.
The owners were great - they live next door but don't intrude, but very helpful if anything is needed and very friendly. The kitchen is really good as a mixing area as well as a place to prepare food, with a nice little corner to watch TV.
The owners who lived next door were very friendly and helpful. The property was spacious, the beds were comfortable and everything was nice and clean. A good base for visiting various places.
A really relaxing break, the owners of the cottage were really welcoming and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The cottage was fantastically equipped, there was even a hair dryer and the kitchen was fantastic. We will definitely visit Ysgubor again.
Friendly greeting from Farmer's wife next door. Property was ideal for large family group (3 generations from teenage to 60s). Lots of bathrooms and different areas. Very popular was the hot tub and games room. Farmer drove us up the local Mountain and we walked back down. It may be too remote for some but was ideal for us
Excellent location and views. Plenty of space in the accommodation. Hot tub was great. Owners were friendly and helpful.
Very welcoming owners providing a most relaxing holiday. Obligingly provided a field for a game of football.
The owners were very hospitable and nothing was too much trouble for them. Very peaceful and relaxing.
Lovely property, owner was very welcoming and friendly, area beautiful.
The solitude and quietness, also the hot tub, was great. The owners are lovely people - it really felt like 'home from home' (actually better!). The fact they welcome dogs is great. The kitchen/breakfast room and the games room are ideal for dogs. It's nice that they are not allowed in the rest of the house - it does not have that doggie smell. The bathroom we used was lovely, the roll top bath was a really nice feature. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with 3 types of china you can use, ranging from a cheap everyday set to a Portmeirion set and a fine bone china set. There are more glasses than a pub. All in all fantastic. I can't praise it enough.
The beautiful rural location, very warm welcome offered by the hosts and the hot-tub!
Pretty well everything was great; the hot tub, the pool table, the BBQ, the big screen TV, the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners, the character of the cottage, the remoteness, the scenery, the surroundings, the hill walks. We had an exceptionally wonderful stay!
Good accommodation in lovely surroundings.
A beautiful cottage in a wonderful location. The owners made us feel really welcome.
Great location with superb walking directly from the cottage. Owners very friendly and accommodating. Hot tub was wonderful.
It cottage was ideal for our whole family. Taking a young child the grounds around the cottage were perfect. There were plenty of walks in the local area. The owner was very helpful and friendly.
The cottage was fantastic, the setting spectacular, the owners very helpful and friendly, everything we could have wanted!
The owners were absolutely delightful, so friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble.
The spacious and well planned accommodation. The hot tub! The exceptional care and kindness shown by the owners. The location, being completely surrounded by the mountains.
The kitchen, dining room and living room were all good social places with comfortable furniture. The views front and back were amazing and the owners were helpful and informative.
Despite the Welsh weather the whole party had a really excellent holiday and the input from the owners was greatly appreciated.
The owners were really friendly and helpful. The setting was extremely quite and relaxing. We were a big party and there was plenty of room to have quite time. It was a good base to explore both mid wales and the coast.
The house and situation were beautiful. Really, how many places can boast about having mountains in the backyard? The hosts were exceptionally friendly people and the whole experience removed a year's worth of accumulated stress. I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to recommend Ysgubor.
We had a great time in a very nice house with plenty of space for us all to enjoy and not be on top of one another. The family also enjoyed the experience of the working farm.
Lovely location, great owners, very relaxing.
We were made to feel like good friends and nothing was to much trouble, lots of advice on places to eat and visit, the house was great to relax in and chill out. Kitchen with the Rangemaster was very cosy, while the house was big enough for you all to have your own space.
The lay out of the property was brilliant for our family. The owners made us feel very welcome and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We hope to return at some point. Our grandchildren aged 4 and 2 just adored the lambs and Sandy the horse. The walks were plentiful and we did not have to travel to enjoy the walking.
Our expectations before we went were high, this property surpassed them, it was absolutely brilliant. A beautifully restored cottage in a spectacular location.
